Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashes near Aktau in Kazakhstan, leaving 38 dead

According to Azerbaijan Airlines, 37 passengers were Azerbaijani citizens. There were also 16 Russian nationals, six Kazakhstani and three Kyrgyzstani citizens.

00:00More than 30 people have died after an Azerbaijan aircraft crashed on Wednesday morning near

00:07the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan.

00:10Authorities said in a statement that there were 67 people on board, including five crew

00:15members.

00:16Social media video appeared to show the aircraft struggling to make an emergency landing and

00:22breaking up in a fireball as it hit the ground.

00:27Some of the videos posted showed passengers being dragged away from the crash site.

00:32According to Azerbaijan state media, at least 32 people survived the crash, with some of

00:38them currently in critical condition.

00:42Azerbaijan's airline said the aircraft had been flying from Baku to Grozny, the capital

00:46of Russia's Chechnya, but had been forced to make an emergency landing.

00:52Authorities in Kazakhstan say they have launched an investigation into the incident and are

00:57looking into different angles, including technical problems.
