00:34All it takes is a charismatic leader to unite a broken and vengeful people, and few are

00:39as gifted an orator as the likes of Visari.

00:42Giving us a glimpse into the history of the Helghast and their war on the rest of the

00:46galaxy, Visari's speech is one of unity and resilience about how the denizens of Helghan

00:52overcame exile and the harsh conditions of their world to eventually become an empire

00:57all live in fear of.

01:10It's as terrifying as it is compelling, made all the more so due to a captivating performance

01:16courtesy of Brian Cox as the infamous Odark.

01:19Visari may be ruthless, but the persuasiveness of this declaration alone makes it obvious

01:24how he was able to amass such power from the brink.

01:34Number 9.

01:35Armstrong's Dream, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.

01:44The Metal Gear franchise is no stranger to some exquisite monologues among hero and villain

01:49alike, but there's truly nothing quite like watching a nanomachine-roided politician break

01:54down his plans for the future of American democracy while simultaneously beating the

01:59bejesus out of a cyborg ninja.

02:11Armstrong, while having no qualms about casualties of war, is borderline enrapturing with his

02:16talk on breaking down the corporate side of the USA and turning it into a place of freedom

02:21and strength for better or worse.

02:23Also, the meme material alone is enough to make this one of the all-time greats.

02:39Number 8.

02:40You Can't Fight Nature, Red Dead Redemption.

02:48Granted, with the context of Red Dead Redemption 2, this speech transcends into a thing of

02:54sheer beauty and heartbreak.

02:56As the former gang members come face-to-face at gunpoint, Dutch confesses his innermost

03:01thoughts to John.

03:12This old western soliloquy dives into how the times have changed, that he and his kind

03:16have no place left in the world, the wickedness of man, as well as how he cannot change his

03:21own nature, as ugly as it might be.

03:24While few will mourn the death of Dutch Vanderlyn, his final words were painfully poetic, even

03:30commendable.

03:36Number 7.

03:37Goodbye, Caroline, Portal 2.

03:50For the briefest of moments, it seemed that GLaDOS was turning a corner after being replaced

03:55by Wheatley as the dominant AI of Aperture Science, and stuffed into a potato, she goes

04:01on a journey of rediscovery with Chell about who she used to be before being converted

04:05into a murderous machine.

04:24We get to see the person beneath the programming, and then she gets reinstated, and promptly

04:30deletes the last remaining digital vestiges of her former self.

04:33The cold and calculating manner in which she says goodbye before gaslighting us in that

04:38same sadistic cerebral way is as shocking as it is saddening.

04:49Number 6.

04:50The Last Human, Soma.

05:01Amongst the psychotic machines and existential crises that dominate Soma's narrative, its

05:06most poignant is the simplest and most human of them all, standing by the side of a person

05:11in their last living moments.

05:13Traversing through the underwater research facility known as Pathos-2, the now cybernetic

05:18Simon encounters Sarah Lynn Wall, the only person left on the planet who's managed

05:23to remain human as opposed to a robotic construct.

05:43With what little time she has left, she besieges us to take the artificial remnants of humanity

05:48and send them to the stars, all the while reminiscing on the good times she's had

05:52in her life, despite not even living to see 30.

05:55It's as eloquent as it is paralyzingly tragic.

06:12Number 5.

06:13Down comes the Claw, Baldur's Gate 3.

06:29There are so many exceptional pieces of dialogue across this masterclass of an RPG that it's

06:35tricky to just narrow one down, especially among the roster of villains.

06:39But in the end, it all comes back to the devil we love to hate, Raphael.

06:56His introduction is incredible.

06:58Starting off with a bit of poetry that goes on to become his calling card, he swoops the

07:02cast away to his house of hope, promising to be their savior and free them from the

07:06mind flayer tadpoles that infest their minds.

07:10Obviously, there are some differentiations depending on character choice, but the end

07:14result is the same, the devil promising you a lifeline and all it will cost is everything

07:19you hold dear.

07:29Number 4.

07:30The definition of insanity, Far Cry 3.

07:41In terms of pure popularity and impact on the mainstream, few have the same weight as

07:46this little number, courtesy of Vaas.

07:48As charismatic as he is terrifying, before sending protagonist Jason off the edge of

07:53a cliff to his presumed death, Vaas delivers a stirring monologue on his insight into madness.

07:59Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is?

08:05Insanity is doing the exact same f***ing thing over and over again.

08:12Ironic coming from a modern day pirate who's beyond the pale of disturbed.

08:17Regardless, Michael Mondo's performance is so captivating that you can't help but

08:21feel mesmerized, even as he sends us hurtling towards our demise.

08:25Probably one of gaming's greatest philosophers.

08:38Number 3.

08:39You Have No Honor, Ghost of Tsushima As a father figure to Jin, Lord Shimura was

08:49a peaceable and compassionate leader, who above all else was driven by honor.

08:54Alas, he and Jin's paths start to diverge when the threat of the Mongol invasion takes

08:58Jin down the path of vengeance, becoming the ghost, who certainly isn't afraid to implore

09:17less than elegant means to kill his enemies.

09:20This ultimately leads to the two of them spending a final morning together before Shimura

09:24informs his pseudo-son that he's been ordered to kill him on behalf of the Shogun.

09:29The disappointment, regret, heartbreak, and tenderness that emanates through his voice

09:34is honestly stunning.

09:35A clash of ideologies, the nature of honor, as well as the bitterness of having to kill

09:40your own family, all beautifully conveyed by a grieving man duty-bound to end his successor.

09:57Number 2.

09:58The Man Chooses, A Slave Obeys, Bioshock None of us will forget the pitch-perfect introduction

10:13to the undersea spectacle of Rapture, partially because of the visuals, but mainly because

10:18of Andrew Ryan's thrilling narration.

10:21This is only surpassed when, after shooting our way through an endless swarm of big daddies

10:25and splicers, we meet the man himself, where he proceeds to dismantle our entire world

10:30one sentence at a time.

10:53Ryan reveals the full extent to which our character has been brainwashed, a slave to

10:57the phrase, would you kindly?

11:00Instead of begging for mercy, he orders us to carry out our original mission and kill

11:04him.

11:05Brutally, might we add.

11:06The man uses his own execution as a flex, with his guttural screams about choices shaking

11:12us to our core.

12:09and while he's a man of few words, the ghost of Sparta has been known to deliver

12:13a few knockout speeches from time to time.

12:16And to our mind, none surpass the awe-inspiring moment where he confronts his younger self

12:21While he does admonish his past actions for their barbarity, he also acknowledges that

12:44he has always been more than what others thought, and most importantly of all, that he has hope

12:49for what is still to come.

12:51Christopher Judge is magnificent here, showcasing just how far Kratos has come as both a god

12:57and a man.
