It's Home Alone meets Deck the Halls in the Sky TV movie Bad Tidings.
00:05
Lee Mack and Chris McCausland are fusing neighbours whose rivalry goes too far
00:09
when Mack ends up knocking out the power to the entire suburb.
00:12
That leaves it open to a family of thieves on Christmas
00:15
and it's up to Mack and McCausland to stop them.
00:18
This very much plays towards its comedian's established personas
00:21
with Mack being a curmudgeonly oaf
00:23
whilst McCausland, who also co-wrote the script,
00:25
doing a lot of physical comedy based around his blindness
00:28
and the pair of them, who are real-life friends, are an amusing double act.
00:32
My main problem with the movie would be the lighting.
00:34
They should have gone for a more stylised approach
00:36
instead of being realistically dim
00:38
because staging slapstick comedy in the dark is a bit counterproductive.
00:42
It's unabashedly derivative
00:44
but it's a pretty fun Home Alone tribute act
00:46
with some good pratfalls and traps.
00:48
As I watched a blind man catapult cans into the forehead of a pound-stretcher Marv
00:53
I couldn't help but think that John Hughes would approve.
00:55
Certainly it's a better Home Alone sequel than anything after the second one.
