Welcome to the seaside town dubbed Hackney-on-Sea where locals say Londoners ARE welcome - as they keep business booming.  Deal in Kent, a former fishing, mining and garrison town, has become a hotspot for DFLs - people moving 'Down from London'.  But unlike other towns where city slickers are shunned, residents feel like the newcomers have had a positive impact on their area - saying it would be "totally dead" without them.

00:00Yeah, Deel has changed because of them, and like the diversity, and without them this town would be totally dead.

00:06You know, I know the locals don't always like them, but the locals are always saying how terrible Dover is,

00:12but without the Londoners, Deel would be as bad as Dover.

00:16Well, there's nothing in Dover, there's hardly any footfall, there's no, you know, there's just nothing there,

00:22and Deel would go the same way without the Londoners.

00:26So it's kept up Deel's businesses?

00:28Absolutely, especially it's public houses and it's live music.

00:35Without all the Londoners, the holidaymakers, that would go.

00:39Well, I welcome them, really, especially in the weekends, and it reverberates around the town,

00:45and it makes it a little bit more upmarket, and I enjoy it, I enjoy it.

00:49There's no problem at all to me, it doesn't affect me at all, it just livens up the town as far as I can see.
