How are you looking, in particular Royce and Calvary?
00:14
They are both available to be in the squad.
00:16
Any update on anybody else?
00:19
Anybody close coming back?
00:22
Anybody have setbacks?
00:25
No, Tomeiasu and Shynchenko are probably available as well.
00:30
Jose has obviously had a very good week.
00:34
There's nothing like a few goals to get that confident, pumping body again.
00:40
Has he been noticeably different out there?
00:44
Is there the sense that, having seen what he did on Wednesday night,
00:51
he almost has to start on Saturday?
00:54
He was very happy, everybody in the team was really happy,
00:57
especially because he helped the team to win the game and get to the semi-finals,
01:01
which is what we wanted.
01:03
You can see that immediate reaction of him, a big smile on his face,
01:06
big energy around him.
01:08
That's what we need, to have everybody in the highest level of performance.
01:12
And Gaby said he had a big one on Wednesday.
01:15
Do you get the sense that he's in a place now where he can go on a really decisive run?
01:21
Yeah, he's been looking really good since he came back from pre-season.
01:24
After he had a setback, he started to play some good performances without scoring.
01:28
Obviously, what he did the other day, I think it's exactly what we need from our ninth.
01:34
We saw Kieran Turner in the wake.
01:38
It sounds like he's set to move on in January. Is that correct?
01:43
At the moment he's here with us.
01:45
I wouldn't play a player that is thinking about leaving or is not committed to us.
01:49
He's fully committed.
01:50
He's enjoying, I think, after a long period, again, with a really tough injury.
01:55
So leave the moment.
01:57
He's a big part of the squad now.
01:59
He deserves to be in the squad.
02:01
He played really well the other day after such a long time.
02:04
So that's the only thing I can say.
02:06
He's not in the squad at the moment, but it's very near January.
02:09
Are you expecting him?
02:10
I mean, does he want to move on?
02:12
Is it the best for the club and the player?
02:14
He hasn't come to me and said, I want to move.
02:16
When in the past we had any doubts, he came to me and said,
02:19
I think it's my time to move.
02:21
And this hasn't been the case yet.
02:23
Just finally, I'm sure we're going to get lots of questions on your anniversary today.
02:27
You've spoken a lot about what you're proud of in terms of connecting with fans,
02:34
rebuilding the culture here, the players that you've moulded and brought through.
02:41
The one desire, the really big piece of silverware,
02:45
would that really make that five years successful for you?
02:50
Where it would make it or what it is?
02:53
How would you assess your five years?
02:58
That I really enjoyed it.
03:00
That it's gone really, really fast.
03:02
That I'm really grateful to be in the position that I'm in right now.
03:07
That I have a lot to learn, a lot to improve, and the best is yet to come.
03:12
The best is yet to come.
03:13
For you, it has to be made of silverware.
03:16
Five years' time.
03:17
This is what we want, to win the big trophies.
03:21
Without losing the rest of the things that we have built.
03:24
That's very important as well.
03:29
Crystal Palace again.
03:31
For you as a manager, is it easier or more complex to play the same team
03:35
in such a tight turnaround?
03:36
Is the prep a little bit different?
03:37
It is different, obviously.
03:39
We played very recently, we analysed them,
03:41
so you don't have to do that too much.
03:43
I'm sure that both teams will adjust a few things
03:46
and probably change some personnel as well.
03:48
Apart from that, the difficulty of the game remains the same.
03:51
We know what it is to go to Selhows Park,
03:53
and we have prepared for that.
03:56
Obviously, there's use of this hat-trick.
03:57
You said he was so sharp, he played well.
03:59
Can we expect maybe to see him and Havertz successfully play
04:03
in the same club at some point this season?
04:06
Yes, that's possible.
04:07
With the players that we have and the connection that we can generate,
04:11
I think it's very doable to have that kind of situation.
04:14
As I said before, I'm really pleased for Gabi's performance,
04:17
for the team's performance,
04:18
and most importantly, the fact that we're in the semi-finals.
04:22
Of course, happy anniversary, five years at Arsenal.
04:25
What do you think has changed the most at the club
04:27
over your time here in here, in yourself and in the culture?
04:34
I don't know.
04:35
From my point of view, the unity, the connection,
04:39
and the fact that we are competing in big fronts right now.
04:42
We haven't managed to do that in the past years.
04:46
That's positive, but there's still a lot to do.
04:50
Ian, talk to the mic.
04:51
Hi, Mikel.
04:52
First, can I get your reaction to the draw against Newcastle in the semi-final?
04:57
Let's play them.
04:58
Two very difficult games.
05:00
We know that the four teams that are involved in the semi-finals
05:03
are the highest level,
05:05
so it didn't matter who would draw,
05:07
the difficulty was going to be there.
05:09
If you win or draw tomorrow,
05:11
I think it's the first time in 20 years
05:13
a team in London has gone a whole calendar year
05:16
without losing a London derby.
05:18
I think you've played 10 so far, so tomorrow's will be the 11th.
05:21
What's the secret to that,
05:23
and how much more different is a London derby to any other game?
05:29
Well, trouble this year.
05:31
The kind of and range of teams that you play is very, very different
05:35
because it's unique that in such a city we have so many Premier League clubs.
05:40
But so far it's been good,
05:42
so hopefully tomorrow we can win it
05:44
and put ourselves in a great position again.
05:47
Is it harder playing those games?
05:49
Because sometimes for London teams, you don't win the title or whatever.
05:52
You've always said, well, they've got to play
05:54
a certain amount of London derbies in a season,
05:56
whereas in other places around the UK,
05:59
you only play one or two derbies.
06:01
I don't see it that way, obviously.
06:03
When you look at the calendar of the Premier League,
06:05
you realise that every opponent is difficult,
06:08
every time you have to travel it's difficult,
06:10
and that's it.
06:12
It's special, I think it's nice for our supporters,
06:14
it's very convenient, I believe.
06:16
So that's a positive.
06:17
Just a couple on your five-year anniversary.
06:19
First of all, you made Arsenal relevant again.
06:22
Charging challenges again, trophy challenges again.
06:25
It was a united club with the supporters, which was important.
06:29
Is that what makes you, in a sense,
06:31
gives you the greatest satisfaction?
06:33
Will that be your legacy here?
06:35
Well, that's obviously a big part of it,
06:37
and the other way, I think the other thing
06:39
is the fact that I really enjoy working with the people
06:42
I work with every single day,
06:44
that we have built something together,
06:46
and so many people have contributed in a big way
06:49
to achieve that,
06:51
and the fact that everybody's hungry and ambitious,
06:54
that now we have to go to another level.
06:56
I speak to a lot of managers all the time,
06:59
we've been at clubs for various lengths of time,
07:01
you haven't changed in five years,
07:03
you haven't got grey hair on your head.
07:05
I have, I have.
07:07
How do you still look almost exactly the same now
07:10
as you did five years ago?
07:12
What is the secret to life change?
07:14
Well, I think I have changed.
07:17
Things are different, it's gone so fast, to be fair.
07:20
Looking back, it's gone so, so, so fast,
07:23
and I enjoy every minute of it,
07:25
when we're pumps in the row,
07:27
when we have good moments,
07:29
and that's about it.
07:31
I'm here because I'm so passionate about what I do,
07:34
because I love this football club,
07:36
and I want the best of that.
07:38
So just try to give your best version every single day,
07:41
and think what is the best possible manager
07:44
for Arsenal Football Club and its players,
07:47
and try to become that manager.
07:50
Simon Stendhal.
07:52
Can I just double-check, did you say at the start
07:54
that Tomiasu would be possibly back this week?
07:56
No, no, sorry, Tomiasu not.
07:58
And just also on the anniversary and the five years,
08:02
just that connection you have with the club,
08:04
the feeling you have with the club,
08:06
how much has that grown over this period?
08:08
Yeah, obviously those things take time, obviously.
08:11
There was a connection there because I was a player here,
08:14
I was a captain here, I knew a lot of people at the club,
08:17
and that was very helpful.
08:19
But I don't know, going through different situations together,
08:23
I think that's what has galvanised that relationship,
08:27
that respect, that admiration from my side
08:30
and appreciation of what they have brought to the club
08:33
and towards me as well, and I think it's a common feeling.
08:37
Just given that, could you imagine ever managing
08:40
another Premier League club?
08:42
At the moment, impossible.
08:44
I have very limited energy
08:46
because I put all of it to this football club,
08:49
to the players and the staff, to give my very best,
08:52
and my only ambition is to make this club more successful.
08:55
Can I just call you on...
08:57
Is Dinchenko out as well this weekend?
08:59
No, I think he could be available.
09:02
And over the past five years,
09:04
you've had to make a lot of big, tough decisions,
09:07
I'm just wondering if there's one that stands out to you
09:10
as the most important one you've had to make?
09:16
It's a good question.
09:18
Well, first of all, I don't make decisions by myself,
09:21
so it's always a lot of time that we share that with the clubs,
09:25
with the people in the past, the people right now,
09:28
and as well with my coaches,
09:30
when we have to make decisions like that.
09:32
So, very difficult to point one of those.
09:39
What I would say, probably,
09:41
is that I haven't regretted decisions,
09:45
because we have made them with a lot of analysis
09:48
and after a very thoughtful process with a lot of people,
09:51
and some right and many wrong, unfortunately.
09:55
And across your five years,
09:57
you've had a few, one of the kids,
09:59
who looking like they want to live up to their potential,
10:02
and you've been able to get them back on track,
10:04
I just wonder if you look at Marcus Rashford's situation,
10:06
is there any part of you that thinks,
10:08
I'd love to take him and get him back to the way he was?
10:10
No, and you know that I'm not going to talk about players from other clubs.
10:15
James, Athletic.
10:16
Hi, Mikel.
10:17
Hi.
10:18
You spoke about the five years going really fast for you,
10:21
and it's been over so quickly,
10:23
does that mean that when you project forward,
10:25
can you easily imagine yourself being here another five years?
10:28
No.
10:29
I mean, I think you have to live the present in this job,
10:33
and obviously you have to plan for what is coming in the mid and long term,
10:37
that's for sure, and we have a lot of conversation regarding that,
10:40
but I think the energy has to be in the moment,
10:43
and paying attention to every detail,
10:45
understanding how things are working,
10:48
putting more processes in place to make better decisions,
10:53
and always have that aim to keep everybody on their feet,
10:57
to get the best out of them,
10:59
and make sure that they feel part of what we do.
11:01
You said you're still enjoying it and still getting better,
11:04
I suppose when you look at yourself and you analyse your own performance,
11:07
what are the areas moving forward that you think,
11:10
I can still be better as a coach?
11:12
In all of them.
11:14
Probably when I arrived I was very, very obsessed
11:17
with the tactical aspect of the game,
11:19
and then straight away, two or three months after I took the job,
11:23
I realised that there was no tactics to do,
11:26
we were at home sitting with COVID,
11:28
so we had to look after the club and the players in a different way,
11:31
and the emotional and the physical part was a very important one,
11:35
so just that evolution,
11:37
probably putting the priorities in other aspects as well,
11:39
the focus and spending time in other things,
11:42
and that's what I think I try to do.
11:45
I think the team has always set some requirements,
11:48
but they can change and they can shift in relation to moments,
11:51
individual plays, or collective momentum that we have as a team,
11:55
and the coach has to be able to adapt and prioritise those things
11:58
to help them as much as possible.
12:00
Last couple of live questions.
12:02
Hi, Mika.
12:03
Hi.
12:04
There were times on Wednesday where Timba drifted into advanced roles,
12:07
almost like an attacking midfielder.
12:09
How impressed have you been with him adapting to the different roles?
12:13
How much creative licence do you give him,
12:15
or is that himself just doing that?
12:17
Well, he's doing that because, first of all, it's his nature,
12:20
he's capable of doing it, he feels very comfortable doing it,
12:24
and yeah, we try to coach him to play in his strengths,
12:29
to mould with the qualities that go around him with his plays as well,
12:32
and I'm very pleased because I think he's been performing really, really well.
12:36
OK, and finally, one in Spanish from Mel.
12:38
Yeah.
12:39
Hola.
12:40
Feliz aniversario.
12:41
Gracias.
12:42
Quiero preguntarte, entre los últimos cinco años,
12:44
13:41
a qué juega, cómo se comporta,
13:43
y a partir de ahà ganar.
13:45
Ganar mucho y ganar durante mucho tiempo.
13:47
Ese es el objetivo.
13:48
Perfecto.
13:49
Muchas gracias y feliz aniversario.
13:50
Gracias.
