Check Out The Remains of This 3,500-Year-Old Bear Frozen in Ice

It’s a wild find with some wild findings.

00:00Scientists are dissecting this bear, but this isn't the variety you might find in a national

00:08forest.

00:09At least not these days.

00:10This bear was recently discovered in the frozen ice of eastern Siberia, and experts believe

00:15it's 3,460 years old.

00:18They say it's a female brown bear two to three years old, and it's an incredibly unique find.

00:22That's because not only are scientists getting a chance to examine a complete animal from

00:26back in the day, but this one comes complete with skin and fur and more.

00:30With the researchers from the Lazarev Mammoth Museum Laboratory at the non-eastern Federal

00:34University in Russia saying about it, quote, for the first time a carcass with soft tissues

00:38has fallen into the hands of scientists, giving us the opportunity to study the internal organs

00:43and examine the brain.

00:44The bear would have stood just over five feet tall and weighed around 172 pounds.

00:49They're now calling the creature the etheric and brown bear because of where it was discovered.

00:53But there's something a bit strange about this one.

00:55Despite being three and a half millennia old, preliminary DNA analysis reveals it, quote,

01:00does not differ in mitochondrial DNA from the modern bear from the northeast of Russia.
