00:04Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we are looking at video games where the bad guy

00:09actually accomplishes their goals, even if they die in the process.

00:14Naturally, you can expect some heavy spoilers ahead.

00:17And the lamb broke the sixth seal and lo, there was a great earthquake!

00:24But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long.

00:33Red Dead Redemption

00:35We all had her.

00:37But he married her.

00:40And you know that makes him a better man than us.

00:43Although Edgar Ross operates on the side of the law,

00:46he's still most certainly the villain of Rockstar's seminal western, Red Dead Redemption.

00:51Taking John Marston's family captive and forcing him to hunt down his former gang members

00:56after he's already turned over a new leaf is evidence enough.

01:00But apparently, leaving any members of Dutch Vanderlyn's posse alive is a big no-no.

01:06After letting John reunite with his family,

01:09Ross and his men confront the former outlaw at home and gun him down.

01:14John's son gets revenge during the epilogue, set three years later,

01:18but in the grand scheme of the story, Ross is the villain, and he sure gets what he wants.

01:26Dead Space 3

01:30EarthGov Command, this is Sergeant John Carver. Do you read me?

01:36Is anyone there?

01:37The Necromorphs of Dead Space are quite the mighty force,

01:41and throughout the games, there's basically nothing Isaac Clarke can do to put an end to them.

01:46The third game doesn't exactly end with them victorious.

01:50Isaac and John Carver, the secondary protagonist,

01:53destroy a Necromorph hive mind, but seemingly die in the process.

01:57However, then there's the Awakened DLC, which continues the story.

02:02It shows that Isaac and John survived, and they're eventually able to make it back to Earth.

02:07What would have been a happy ending turns incredibly sour

02:11when they see Necromorph forces invading their home, and likely ripping everyone to shreds.

02:16Unfortunately, that's how the series came to a close.

02:20Original developer Visceral Games was shut down by EA,

02:23and we've gotten nothing but a remake of the first game since.

02:33Star Wars The Force Unleashed

02:45The Force Unleashed begins with you playing the villain,

02:48but you're not the one who comes out on top.

02:51As Starkiller, the apprentice to Darth Vader,

02:54you're given an assignment to help him overthrow his big bad boss, Emperor Palpatine.

02:59Except, surprise, you were just being used to lure out the good guys.

03:04Starkiller eventually starts acting against his masters, and even defeats Vader in combat.

03:09You're then given a choice of two endings.

03:12Kill Vader like Palpatine wants, to commit fully to the dark side,

03:16or save your friend Coda by taking a lethal dose of Force lightning.

03:22The sequel shows that the light side ending is canon,

03:25but either way, the Emperor and his minions are victorious.

03:34For Honor

03:41Ubisoft's For Honor is mostly known for its multiplayer,

03:45thanks to a fun, if not implausible premise,

03:48and several updates over the years bringing in new types of warriors from around the world.

03:53However, there is a story mode, which follows the belligerent Apollyon trying to pit

03:58knights, vikings, and samurai against each other in all-out war.

04:03Why?

04:04Something generic about the powerful wanting control over the weak.

04:07Regardless, she works hard to pull each faction's strings to bring about an age of war.

04:13Even though you're able to defeat her in the end, her death does nothing to stop things.

04:18Apollyon's actions are far-reaching and disastrous,

04:22bringing about the deaths of innumerable people.

04:36Singularity

04:43This FPS features three different endings, but none are happy.

04:48Singularity follows Captain Nathaniel Renko,

04:50who gets sucked back in time after crashing on a mysterious island.

04:55There, he saves the life of scientist Nikolai Demichev,

04:58who he finds to be a world-ruling dictator once he's back in the present.

05:02He's then given a Time Manipulation Device, or TMD, which he uses to go back and save

05:08Barisov, the machine's inventor and a murder victim of Demichev.

05:13By the end, you get three choices.

05:15You can shoot Demichev, go back in time, and kill your past self to stop the rescue,

05:21but this leads to Barisov having used the TMD to take over the planet himself.

05:26If you shoot Barisov, you and Demichev take over the planet together,

05:31leading to an eventual falling out and Cold War.

05:34If you shoot both, the world falls into chaos until you take control.

05:39Either way, the world ends up with a tyrant in charge.

05:48Castlevania Legacy of Darkness

05:58Although it has long been axed from the franchise's canon,

06:02Legacy of Darkness fits well on our list.

06:05It starts, like many Castlevania games do, with Dracula's minions tormenting the innocents.

06:11The main campaign follows Cornell, a lycanthrope,

06:14whose sister is kidnapped in a plan to sacrifice her in order to return Dracula to his full power.

06:20Cornell fights bravely, defeating every minion in his path,

06:24and he's able to rescue his sister in the end by sacrificing his wolfman abilities.

06:29Sadly, this is the sacrifice that Dracula actually wanted.

06:34The magic is used by his underlings to bring Dracula back to his full might,

06:38which he presumably uses to wreak havoc.

06:47Far Cry 5

06:49Step forward.

06:51And I saw.

06:55And behold.

06:56The fifth Far Cry has players go up against Joseph Seed,

07:00leader of a violent cult within a fictionalized Montana who has prophesied the end of days.

07:06Throughout the game, you fight to free the people of his twisted rule,

07:09which can be hard since he has a lot of diehard followers,

07:13and uses bliss, a potent hallucinogenic.

07:17There are two options to choose from during the ending, but they both benefit Joseph.

07:22If you choose to leave to save your friends, you end up brainwashed by him.

07:26If you choose to fight, the nuclear war he's been going on and on about comes to pass.

07:32You wake up in a bunker, with only Joseph to keep you company.

07:35There was silence in heaven.

07:40And the seven angels before God were given seven trumpets.

07:43Prince of Persia

07:45Any more of your relatives gonna try and kill us?

07:47Or is it just your father who wants to end the world?

07:50Do you think I wanted any of this?

07:52In the 2008 reboot for Prince of Persia, the hero meets a princess named Elika.

07:57Together, they fight against her villainous father in order to seal away Ahriman,

08:02the god of darkness.

08:03It seems like, no matter what, saving the world from Ahriman's terror is paramount.

08:09While the duo is able to come out victorious, the prince kind of screws everything up.

08:14Elika dies while sealing Ahriman away, and so the prince cuts down the tree of life to save her,

08:20letting Ahriman right back out, further corrupting the land.

08:24That's how the game ends, and even the epilogue DLC doesn't resolve things.

08:29Elika is rightfully upset that the world was doomed on her behalf,

08:33and no alternate solution for defeating Ahriman is ever found.

08:44Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

08:55Still one of the best campaigns in the Call of Duty series,

08:58Modern Warfare 2 sees you desperately try to avoid World War 3, which you sadly fail to do.

09:05In one of gaming's most gut-punching reveals, we learn that our ally, General Shepard,

09:10has been pulling strings from the shadows to instigate conflict between Russia and America.

09:15We only learn this as he kills two beloved characters in cold blood,

09:20and everything that he's been scheming towards comes to pass.

09:23Additionally, the real big bad you've been hunting the whole time, Vladimir Makarov, gets away.

09:29While the game does end with you getting vengeance on Shepard with a swift knife to the face,

09:34that doesn't change the fact that his goals were met.

09:41Halo Reach

09:52This excellent prequel to the original trilogy follows the famed Noble Team

09:57in their defense of Reach, a human planet under threat of the Covenant.

10:02While the group fights heroically against alien forces, there's no making it out alive.

10:07The climax sees the team giving their lives to ensure the safety of the Pillar of Autumn,

10:12a ship holding the planet's citizens and Cortana with her Covenant-ending information,

10:17which kicks off the original game. It's definitely bittersweet.

10:27While Cortana's escape leads to her meeting Master Chief and setting victorious events in motion,

10:33the Covenant wins at the end of Reach. Each member of Noble Team dies,

10:37with the player's post-credits final battle being one of the series' most tragic moments.
