Marcos orders intensified drive vs agricultural smuggling

President Marcos has directed the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) to intensify the campaign against agricultural smugglers as they disrupt the supply chain and impact the prices of goods in the market.  Marcos said this as he led the inspection of P178.5 million of smuggled mackerel in Manila on Saturday, Dec. 14. 01:00This will be the first case under our new Anti-Agricultural Sabotage Act, our new law,

01:13to strengthen the sanctions against those who try to enter the country without paying their duty,

01:22without paying, they are smuggling agricultural goods.

01:26The market is being destroyed here in the Philippines, people are making a living,

01:31no one is giving back to the government, and those who should be paid by the government are just being swindled.

01:39Then we cannot control how they will be released,

01:43because we have seen, this is also included in other agricultural products,

01:49that even if they are able to import it cheaply, they are being tied up first before raising the price,

01:54before being released to the market.

01:57This is the whole chain that we need to break.

02:03If we give each family, no, each person, if we give one kilo,

02:11we can give one kilo to 580,000 people.

02:18That is what we will do, and we will give it to the evacuation centers, to the hospitals,

02:26we will give it to our homes, to the Bucor, all of it,

02:32correct, to the Bucor, so that it will not go to waste,

02:36because there is an inspection, this inspection is safe for human consumption,

02:43so as long as possible, we will distribute it so that it will not go to waste,

02:48and our countrymen can use it.

02:52That's all, and I hope that this is the first of many operations such as this,

02:58because this is very, very important,

03:01and we need to control, we need to supervise our food supply.

03:09If we continue to do this, we will not be able to do it.

03:13That's why we enacted into law the Anti-Agricultural Sabotage Act.
