Syria's new caretaker Prime Minister Mohammed al-Bashir was greeted by huge crowds as he arrived at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus for Friday prayers.

Al-Bashir announced on Tuesday (Dec 10) he was taking charge of the country with the backing of the former rebels who toppled President Bashar al-Assad.
