00:00Why is Sasaki not going to make money?
00:06I heard that he's going to get like some crappy deal to play in the major leagues, but why
00:11is he so sought after and he's not going to get paid?
00:16Yeah, it has to do with the complicated and convoluted way players from Japan are classified
00:22and international amateur free agents.
00:27Because Sasaki's only 23 and because he's only played a few years in the Japanese league,
00:34he doesn't have the seniority to qualify as a legitimate true free agent.
00:40It's a little bit like remember when Shohei Ohtani came over a few years back and Ohtani
00:46was kind of the same way.
00:49He could have waited another year or two to post and go to the majors and make a ton of
00:55money, but he didn't want to wait.
00:58He wanted to go now, which is where Sasaki's at.
01:01By going now for Ohtani and now Sasaki, they're still classified as amateur free agents rather
01:07than true free agents because, as I said, Sasaki hasn't pitched in the Japanese league
01:15six or seven years and he's only 23.
01:19Because of the rules he comes over governed under the international amateur free agent,
01:27clubs can only spend what their amateur free agent budget is within that range.
01:32So yeah, I mean, a team could have Sasaki for like six million a year instead of way
01:37beyond that.
01:39That's crazy.
01:40Where do you think Max Freed and Crochet are going to end up?
01:46Yeah, Freed, you know, the reports out of Dallas this week, the winter meetings right
01:51now have the American League East teams hot after him, after Freed.
01:56The Yankees, the Red Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays.
01:59And that all makes sense.
02:00I mean, obviously, you know, the Yankees won the division last year.
02:03They just lost Soto.
02:06You know, they're regrouping and more than winning the division, I think the Yankees
02:12moves this year are going to be predicated this winter on losing the World Series.
02:17They finally got back to their first World Series since 2009.
02:20But you know, obviously it ended in a very disappointing fashion in New York, especially
02:25that ugly fifth inning.
02:27So you know, they're looking to regroup and get back to that World Series and win at this
02:32time.
02:33And, you know, Garrett Cole needs some help in that rotation.
02:36So I could see Freed going there, you know, and obviously Boston's trying to climb back
02:42up the ladder.
02:43And poor Toronto, you know, they took a swing at Otani, they took a swing at Soto.
02:48They just can't convince guys to take their money.
02:51Well, what about Crochet?
02:53You know, Crochet will be interesting.
02:57I mean, you know, you could see him going to the Yankees.
02:59I mean, I wouldn't put even like the Padres beyond Crochet.
03:02I mean, we've seen A.J. Preller and all the crazy trades that he's able to figure out,
03:08including trading for Dylan Cease on the eve of last season.
03:12You know, Crochet will, you know, and by the way, the White Sox cannot blow this one either
03:17because obviously coming off one of the worst seasons in baseball history, the White Sox
03:24have to figure this out.
03:25And they've got to hit.
03:26They've got the prospects.
03:27They get back, be it from the Yankees, the Padres, whomever.
03:33They've got to be legit prospects and they've got to hit because otherwise the White Sox
03:37will be even more of a mess than they are now.
03:40What do you think of the Dodgers and all of the money they've spent and the fact that
03:46they kicked the Yankees ass and then they add Snell and they're just getting better
03:52by the minute?
03:53Yeah, they are.
03:54You know what?
03:55I mean, the Guggenheim ownership, as we know, I mean, they've been on this for a while.
04:02They've spent money and they keep spending money.
04:06And, you know, as Andrew Friedman said during the World Series, their president of baseball
04:09operations, we think, you know, hey, we're in a new golden age of Dodger baseball.
04:17And as long as they have Otani, I mean, just signing him, the corporate deals they have,
04:23Scott, with Japan, with various companies in Japan, it's more than $120, $130 million.
04:31And they've got income coming in from Otani.
04:33They sell out almost every night.
04:35They've got a deep pocket of ownership that wants to win.
04:39And you know, it's only going to create more economic divide in the game itself.
04:44Obviously, the Mets and Dodgers are going north in payroll.
04:47But you know, Blake Snell, Otani, I can see them bringing Tiasca Hernandez back this year.
04:55They're playing for keep.
04:56The Dodgers are playing for keep.
