00:00Good day and welcome to the gulf news update for Tuesday, September 2nd. Here are the top

00:09stories at this hour. While work on the Sheikh Zayed Road diversion

00:13to pave way for the Dubai Canal project is in full swing, traffic on the internal roads

00:17in Al-Wasl area have been badly affected. The exit to Sheikh Zayed Road from Umm Amara

00:22Street has now been narrowed to one track again, bringing the tailbacks to previous

00:26levels when the work first began earlier this year.

00:29According to the RTA, the diversion for Sheikh Zayed Road will be ready by October 25th.

00:35Pakistan's parliament will hold an emergency meeting today to try and defuse two weeks

00:39of protests. Late last night, the military rejected assertions that the army and inter-services

00:44intelligence were backing Pakistan Tehrik-e-Ansar and Pakistan Awami Tehrik in the political

00:49standoff. France and Saudi Arabia are close to signing

00:52a $3 billion arms deal for Lebanon. The Elysee Palace made the announcement late last night

00:57following talks between President Francois Hollande and Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin

01:02Abdelaziz. The deal is for military equipment and arms to be supplied to Lebanon's army.

01:08Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is quite optimistic a deal can be struck with

01:12the West on his country's nuclear programme. The US announced a series of measures Friday

01:17targeting entities and individuals who Washington alleges are helping Iran circumvent international

01:22sanctions. In sport, Manchester United have made a sensational

01:26double swoop on transfer deadline day. They signed Colombia striker Radamel Falcao on

01:31loan from Monaco and Dutch international Daley Blind from Ajax. The FBI has said it was investigating

01:37allegations that online accounts of several celebrities, including Oscar winner Jennifer

01:42Lawrence, have been hacked. The agency did not say what actions it was taking to investigate

01:47who was responsible for posting naked photos of Lawrence and other stars.

01:51The party is back on the beach in Dubai this October. Organisers of Sand Dance have announced

01:56two acts for its new season, current hot property British electronic group Clean Bandit and

02:01English band Rudimental. Set for October 10th at Atlantis Beach, tickets to the festival

02:07go on sale from September 3rd. And finally, the weather. Today's high across

02:11the UAE will be 41 degrees Celsius, dropping to 31 degrees at night.
