'Risk to life' as UK faces 80mph winds and floods from Storm Darragh

00:00It stays fine in the east on Friday but in the west the weather soon deteriorates ahead of Storm Dara.

00:06That's going to bring in a spell of heavy rain once again, Northern Ireland, much of Scotland,

00:10England and Wales seeing that wet weather arrive by the end of Friday and that will be falling as

00:14snow above 300 metres for Scotland. Further spells of rain push through Northern Ireland,

00:18Western England, Wales and Southern Scotland through the day on Saturday, a very blustery

00:23and wet day. The rain accumulating to 60 or more millimetres across parts of Northern Ireland,

00:28Southern Scotland, Wales and Western England and that could cause disruption but the main cause

00:33for concern is the wind. Here are the expected wind gusts as Storm Dara crosses the country

00:39during Saturday. The wind's picking up overnight Friday but peaking as the main area of rain goes

00:45through on Saturday morning and as you can see from this gust graphic with the key over here

00:49on the right, wind gusts are expected to widely reach across Southern Scotland, Northern Ireland,

00:54much of England and Wales, 50 to 60 miles an hour but for some of the windiest places,

01:01Northern Ireland, Irish Sea coast into Wales and Western England, there's the risk of 70 miles an

01:07hour inland and 80 miles an hour or more for some exposed coastal parts and hills and those kinds

01:15of wind gusts don't happen very often at all in these areas, could cause significant disruption,

01:21power outages as well as travel disruption, damage to buildings and dangerous conditions

01:27around coasts with large waves and flying debris. So for that reason, there is an amber warning in

01:33force for parts of Northern Ireland, Western England as well as Wales and South West Scotland

01:39and a broader yellow warning for those areas that aren't quite experiencing the strongest winds but

01:44still at risk from disruption and that covers Southern Scotland, Northern Ireland, much of the

01:49rest of England and Wales. It is worth staying up to date with all the latest forecasts and
