00:00Australia has this international reputation for being sporty, fit and super healthy, but

00:11is it really true? The reality is a very different story.

00:20There is one disease spreading right across this country that will leave a mark on the

00:24lives of millions of Australians for generations to come.

00:28Type 2 diabetes is the world's fastest growing chronic condition.

00:34Unfortunately we have to take it away.

00:37Amputations, heart attacks, strokes and blindness, this is the harsh reality for many.

00:44We are following courageous Australians battling to overcome this dreaded disease.

00:49They've already taken my heavy rigid licence off me because of my right eye.

00:54So gangrene just keeps spreading, ankle and then knee and then the limb.

01:00You feel like you're being robbed because your life's been stolen.

01:05More than a million Australians have type 2 diabetes and more than 15,000 die of complication

01:11from it every year and yet we're told it is a progressive disease, that the answer is

01:17medication, but is taking more and more drugs really the only way?

01:24I want to wake up the nation and its movers and shakers to the dangerous pose by eating

01:28these sort of foods.

01:30We have a chronic disease epidemic that's not only blinding people, it's killing tens

01:34of thousands of Aussies every single year.

01:38We know eating badly gets us into trouble, so can eating well get us out of it?

01:44I'll be putting my body on the line by eating a fairly typical Aussie diet, almost half

01:49of which is ultra processed food to see if that pushes my blood sugars into the diabetes range.

01:55That's pretty awful isn't it?

01:57That's the range in which we would be telling you you need to go on medication.

02:00Then I'll try to reverse it with a rapid weight loss diet.

02:06While our brave Australians will attempt to reverse their own type 2 diabetes through diet.
