00:30Let me ask you this because we haven't caught up with you in a little while this team is five and seven and

00:36They just have not played their best football. Do you think that in the next five games?

00:42They'll resemble a playoff team and be able to get there I

00:48Think it's hard

00:48I mean they have so many injuries and these aren't guys that are gonna come back

00:54I mean Tricia McCaffrey is gonna be out

00:56and

00:58You know Debo salmon just hasn't looked like the same dynamic player

01:01we've seen the defense is definitely not at the level that we've expected for the Niners and

01:08that's kind of a to be expected because of the all the money that's going on the offense and

01:13When you have that kind of attrition

01:15The offense needs to be elite and they just have have not shown signs that they can be an elite unit

01:21I think they can be very good

01:23but I just don't know if this offense is going to be good enough to carry them and

01:29For them to get to the place that they want to but saying that I think looking at the schedule

01:34I mean, it's a chance. There's a chance they could they could win four out of five

01:38I think winning the Lions game could be tough. But every other game I think is a you know possible win

01:44So we'll see this team has rallied from

01:47From bad starts in the past, but this one's gonna be a little bit different

01:51But I think it's possible Ted I've been telling my co-host and the fans

01:56I'm definitely not saying Brock Purdy's been bad

01:59He's not but I just feel like it's not as polished as last year

02:04What do you make a Brock Purdy going forward and just what you've seen from them thus far this season?

02:11Yeah, I think this season they really tried to

02:15Turn him into a drop back passer. They went away from especially early in the season. They went away from play-action

02:22they were passing their pass rate on early downs was way up and

02:29For a time. He was putting up really good numbers

02:31you know, he was number one and a ton of categories and since then things have gone down and

02:37That's to be expected when you're missing as many players as you have it. It's hard for any quarterback to deal with that

02:43And you know

02:44I thought at a point this season that Brock Purdy was playing better than he ever has even though his numbers weren't as good

02:53So I think there's definitely a lot to be encouraged with the Brock Purdy

03:00Even though the numbers don't show it so I I

03:03Don't know if he's done enough to

03:06Just for you to just throw up 60 million dollar per year at him and feel happy about it

03:11But I definitely think he's gotten better

03:25You know Kyle Shanahan has obviously gotten criticized this year. I hear over and over that we don't maybe

03:33The opposition is has caught up to the Niners a little bit. There was a

03:37Soundbite from Mike Florio pro football talk that that maybe he's running out of time here and

03:44Even throughout the idea of of trading into the Chicago Bears who need a coach

03:49What what's happening with the Shanahan offense is it is it the personnel?

03:54Or is it that he's got to make some kind of adjustment with the way he sees the game I?

04:02I think the couch and hand talk is a bit ridiculous just because the Niners have been one of the best teams in the league

04:08for so long at

04:10Yeah, they have one bad season all sudden. You know you're talking about firing the coach that put you in this position

04:15I mean it it's it's ridiculous to me, but I mean I do have there's some small criticisms

04:22I have of his offense, but overall this team

04:26He's been one of the best offensive minds in football every team is trying to copy what he's trying to do and

04:33Even when you look at that Bills game

04:35There was a lot of good

04:36schemes and plays that he drew up that were pretty effective and they burned down the red zone and I mean Brock Purdy's clearly

04:43Not at a hundred percent, and it's hard to win when your quarterback. You know it isn't throwing the ball like he

04:49He needs to so I think you know

04:53Yeah, I mean he

04:55Can be couch and a still innovator

04:57And there's some tweaks he can make with his offense, and maybe he does looking at the film

05:02But I mean it's hard to criticize the coach when you just look at the laundry list of injuries

05:08For the Niners and for them to be sort of in a playoff race with all these injuries it to me

05:14It's you know pretty surprising. You know what Ted just speaking of the injuries

05:18I just want to talk about the defense and mainly the defensive coordinator last year was Wilkes

05:23He got fired. There was a lot of drama in that I thought the defense performed

05:28Well in the Super Bowl last year Nick Sorensen

05:30You know what have you seen from him, and is it legit to say you know what he's what he's been without green law

05:37Bolsa's been gone. What do you make of the job?

05:39He's done, and how much of the injuries gives him a pass per se

05:46It's tough because he's a first-year defensive coordinator

05:49That doesn't really have a resume that you can look at to kind of prop them up and say you know

05:56because of all the injuries

05:58He's underperforming and we could look at something in the past to say that maybe he could return to this

06:04He really doesn't have that so it's tough

06:06But the injuries are hard and this defensive line isn't anywhere near the defensive lines so the Niners have in the past

06:13It was pretty much just Nick Bosa and Hargrave and a Hargrave goes out and now Nick Bosa's hurt

06:20And we have to remember this entire defensive premise and their entire defensive philosophy is built on the dominance of

06:26The defensive line, and they just don't have the players to do that right now

06:30I think you know some of the younger players and the secondary are developing nicely

06:35But again this whole thing is built around the defensive line, and they just don't have those guys

06:40Green law has been out

06:43Warners been playing with a hurt ankle

06:45So it's tough to really judge Nick Sorensen based on that

06:49But it's also tough because he doesn't have anything to fall back on to say that you know we can trust him to

06:56Get better, or we can trust him to return to the baseline level that his defenses

07:01Performed at because he doesn't have that Ted Wynn joining us on 95-7 the game. He covers the NFL for the Athletic

07:08You know the 49ers played their first eight games without McCaffrey and over that time they had red zone issues

07:15And and you know the offense just wasn't quite itself

07:18And I think the the expectation was that when McCaffrey came back. You know they we'd see a change and the reason I'm

07:25Referencing him is because it looks like Dre green law could come back a week from today against the Rams and

07:32What could we reasonably expect from Dre green law as a member of the the 49ers actually playing

07:41Will we notice anything with the eye test that that you think will look different

07:47Yeah, I mean, I'm not a medical expert. I just know that anytime somebody's come back from Achilles injuries. It does take time

07:55To really return to full form and we've seen that over and over again with

08:01Players in different positions so my expectation for Dre green law isn't very high. I mean it'd be good to

08:08Get him back out there. I think he could still be an upgrade to what the Niners have been putting out on field

08:14But I mean I would temper my expectation and again. I'm not a doctor

08:19I'm not a medical expert, but just based on the history of Achilles injuries

08:24You know it's tough for me to see him. Just going out there and being a 100%

08:28Ted we like to have a little fun

08:30I don't know if you gamble on the show and we if you had to make a bet right now

08:34With where the Niners are at trail in Seattle, and they got a showdown with Arizona who leads the division

08:40I mean is chasing Seattle that the Niners would make the playoffs. How would you bet it right now?

08:48What are the odds you know the odds are right now minus 120 that they make

08:54Minus 120 that they make the playoffs

08:59Plus 240

09:02Plus 240 then okay

09:05If it's plus 240 I mean I might just throw something in there just for fun

09:08You know but like I said the last this four out of five games that I think are winnable games in the end

09:15And the Detroit Lions are beat up very very beat up team right now, so you know who knows what happens with that game

09:22And you know I have a very high regard for caution and Shanahan

09:26And maybe figure this thing out, and I get them in there if it's plus 240 or maybe plus 300

09:31You know maybe throw something in there just for fun make it a little interesting all right. I'll take that

09:38But I think you know with the if the odds were just even I think you're saying no a little bit

09:46No, yeah, but even I would not take it, but I would not imagine that the

09:50The odd for the Niners to make play playoffs or even or close to it. Yeah
