00:00In preparation for this variety partnership, I binge-watched a lot of television and film.

00:06I couldn't stop smiling through Nobody Wants This,

00:09seeing two people with very different beliefs find their way forward with humor and love.

00:14The piano lesson made me weep,

00:17watching Bernice call for help from both God and her ancestors.

00:21I delighted to see one of Hollywood's most respected actors, Anthony Hopkins, play King Herod.

00:28In Piece by Piece, Pharrell Williams' grandmother tells him, in Lego form,

00:33that she had a dream about him, and she knew he would be great,

00:36and she said, where much is given, much is expected.

00:39Jewish, Christian, Muslim, spiritual, whatever you believe,

00:44these are universal experiences that we share.

00:48Last year, Paramount's Content for Change initiative released a report

00:52regarding the power and importance of religious representation in media,

00:56recognizing that when done well, faith has the ability to expand,

01:01narratives unite, and connect people.

01:04This year, Paramount released Bob Marley, One Love.

01:08The invitation to watch on Amazon Reads.

01:12Celebrate the life of an icon who inspired generations

01:16through his message of love, peace, and unity.

01:19It goes on to say, discover Bob Marley's powerful story of overcoming adversity

01:24and the journey behind his revolutionary music that changed the world.

01:28What you soon realize in the film is that the celebration of Bob's life

01:33offers an intimate glimpse into the source of his strength, his vision, and his purpose.

01:39It is his love for and belief in Rastafari and Jah.

01:45At the beginning of the film, after an attempt has been made on Bob's life,

01:48he takes stock in himself, his future, and his country.

01:52He uses this experience to define how he will go forward.

01:56Later, we go to London in the film when Bob Marley is beginning his new album.

02:01We meet a new bandmate, Junior.

02:04Bob asks him, you know your Bible.

02:07For we, the music, and the message are the same thing.

02:10This reggae music is the vehicle.

02:13And this album is going to transmit a message to everybody on the face of the earth.

02:18When presenting the album to the music label, Exodus, it's dismissed.

02:25They dismiss the cover saying, it looks like a Cecil B. DeMille poster.

02:28This isn't Sunday school, and I can tell you one thing for sure.

02:31Young people don't like it.

02:34Bob replied, I'm not doing this for my ego, brethren.

02:37He said brethren a lot, which I loved.

02:40I'm in it because of a cause.

02:42The album went on to sell millions of copies.

02:46Time Magazine recognized it as the greatest album of the 20th century.

02:50And Grammys inducted it into their Hall of Fame.

02:53At a particularly low point in Bob's life, Rita Marley, who we've got to give recognition to as well.

03:00She was his life partner.

03:03She said to him, Bob, sometimes a messenger has to become the message.

03:09Bob Marley's life was a message.

03:12He had many adversities, yet we see he was protected.

03:15He was directed, and his life work reflects a framework that comes from belief.

03:21He took the chance that God gave him to be a revolutionary, creating anthems for peace, for freedom, and for unity.

03:29I grew up loving this man's music, and if I could describe the feeling in one word, it is pure joy.

03:36The music label's message to Bob is one that Jay talked about as well.

03:41It's one we often hear today.

03:43We're told the world's interest in religion and faith is in decline.

03:46We're told this topic is niche.

03:48But if I've learned anything in the last three years doing this, I've learned that we live in a deeply spiritual world.

03:55We're here tonight to honor Ziggy Marley for preserving and protecting his father's legacy.

04:03For inspiring us through an intimate glimpse into Bob Marley's life.

04:07And like the music, for bringing us an important message and story that is truly accessible for all.
