00:00Dr. Mahathir Mohamad unilaterally decided not to proceed with the applications to review

00:05the International Court of Justice's 2008 decision on Batu Putih.

00:10This is what the Royal Commission of Inquiry said in its declassified report released today.

00:16According to the RCI, Mahathir had written to the Solicitor General on May 21, 2018,

00:21stating that, to his view, this effort need not be continued.

00:25The RCI said Singapore was informed of Malaysia's decision to drop the legal applications at

00:299 a.m. on May 23, 2018, but the Cabinet only met at 9.30 a.m. on the same day.

00:35It also said the Cabinet simply confirmed Mahathir's views and opinions as the Prime

00:39Minister in the meeting.

00:41The Solicitor General then sent a letter to Mahathir on May 24, stating that Singapore

00:45had been made aware of his decision.

00:47The RCI said Mahathir did not question, deny or correct the contents of the letter, and

00:52therefore it could not accept his claim that he was merely stating his own opinion.
