Nearly half of desk workers feel uncomfortable admitting use of AI at work

Despite its growing use, excitement around AI is waning as employees express concerns that AI tools may result in heavier workloads and faster-paced demands.

00:07More than 70% of desk workers want to become AI experts.

00:12Between September 2023 and August 2024, AI adoption steadily increased around the world,

00:19growing from 20% of the global desk worker population to 36%.

00:26However, almost 50% of all desk workers would feel uncomfortable admitting to their manager

00:32that they have used AI for common workplace tasks.

00:36The top reasons for employees' discomfort are feeling like using AI is cheating, fear

00:41of being seen as less competent, and fear of being seen as lazy.

00:47In Sweden, 86% of employees feel uncomfortable revealing that they use AI to write messages

00:54to their colleagues or co-workers of the same level.

00:57In France, this applies to 65% of workers, while in Italy, the proportion declines to

01:0361%, 62% in Spain, and 58% in Germany.

01:09Despite the unease regarding AI use, three out of four desk workers say that they prefer

01:15AI-savvy employers.

01:17This trend is likely to accelerate as people in their first job are 1.8 times more likely

01:24to say AI enablement is a very important factor in their job search.
