00:00Meanwhile, the Philippine Navy assured the public that the incident of a Russian attack submarine

00:10inside the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines is normal and should not be concerned.

00:13According to the Philippine Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea,

00:17Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad,

00:20it is normal for sea vehicles to pass through the AEC

00:25because the country is surrounded by nautical highways and international routes that ships pass through.

00:32According to Trinidad, under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,

00:37there is no need for first coordination or permission of sea vehicles,

00:42but it must comply with the radio challenge as a courtesy to the country.

00:50As explained by Trinidad, there are many reasons as to why this part of the submarine passed through the AEC.

00:58It may have a message that wants to convey their presence,

01:02create air for the charging of diesel-electric batteries,

01:07refueling or making a component.

01:10In their communication with the submarine,

01:13it replied that it only needs to refuel before returning to Russia.

01:20When we first reacted, we were concerned, we were surprised.

01:23But eventually, when it responded, it should not be a concern to our countrymen.
