Isn't it true that sleeping is more important than eating?

That's right!

There's a mental and physical deterioration when you're awake for over 16 hours.

Your brain can't memorize anymore.

And if you're awake for 3 days, you'll hallucinate or imagine anything.

That's why we should sleep so that our brain can rest.

But did you know that even if we sleep, our brain is still awake?

I'm an autopilot so that I can adjust my memories, muscles, and organs.

And release my hormones.

There are 4 stages and 2 types of sleep.

REM or Rapid Eye Movement.

And NREM or Non-Rapid Eye Movement.

5% of sleep is stage 1.

This is the stage where you're already sleepy.

45% of sleep is stage 2.

Known as Light NREM Sleep.

This is when our body slows down.

Our body temperature slows down, our breathing and heart rate slows down,

and long-term memories are stored in our brain.

Stage 3 is Deep NREM Sleep.

This is at 25%.

This is when our body is in recovery mode and our body and brain slows down.

Stage 4 is REM Sleep.

This is the last 25% of sleep and this is when we're dreaming.

During REM Sleep, the levels of brain activity are also awakened.

Our breathing and heart rate.

REM Sleep occurs in the second half of our sleep.

If we don't sleep enough, it has a negative impact.

It's harder to memorize.

You get mood swings.

And it has a negative effect on the immune and cardiovascular system.

How many percent of high schoolers don't have 8 to 10 hours of sleep?

And that number is a bit alarming.

It's relaxing to sleep.

But aside from that, it's also exciting to wait for our dreams.

Speaking of dreams, we dream 4 to 6 times.

But 95% of our dreams are forgotten when we wake up.

And did you know that 75% of us dream of colors?

But when there were no color TVs, it was only 15%.

Esha, why do we sometimes have dreams that are so weird?

Because while we sleep, the front part of the brain that controls our senses is shut down.

Because of that, different images, stories, and ideas mix in our brain while we're dreaming.

That's why it's weird.

But the dream stage helps our problem-solving skills because we see things in a different way.
