00:00My story is not with Varanasi. My story is with Gangamaji. I'll tell you the story.

00:17So when I was 15-16 years old, maybe 17, my family is a very religious family.

00:24They do a lot of pujas and religious rituals.

00:27My father one day called me. He gave me 600 or 700 rupees and said,

00:34go to Allahabad, where the Ganga meets Yamuna, the Triveni Sangama,

00:42and get holy water of Ganga. Get 50 barrels of Ganga water from Allahabad to Chennai.

00:47We were living in Chennai then.

00:49At that point of time, I had never been north of Visakhapatnam.

00:53Forget anywhere in north of India, but my father said, I took the money and

00:58booked a ticket and got on the train, second class compartment.

01:03I think it was a 36 hour or 40 hour journey.

01:08I didn't know how to do it, but I just got on the train.

01:11As we were traveling, there was a gentleman sitting there and

01:16I remember he was telling the people about how Pandit Nehruji's

01:21socialistic approach was not right for the country, something he was telling.

01:26After some time, he noticed me and he asked me, who are you?

01:29What are you doing? Where are you going?

01:31So I said, I'm going to Allahabad to bring Ganga water, 50 barrels of Ganga water.

01:37So he said, why? I said, my family is a religious family.

01:42My brother is doing some kind of religious ritual.

01:44My father told me, so I'm going.

01:46I said, yes, sir. Okay, fine. How do you plan to get it?

01:56I said, I don't know. Do you know anyone in Allahabad?

01:59I said, I don't know. So how are you going to get it?

02:02I said, I don't know. My father said, I'm going.

02:04So he took a pen and paper. He wrote a letter to his son who lives in Allahabad.

02:09He said, go there. Give this letter to my son. He will help you.

02:14So I took the letter, went to Allahabad, went to his son's house.

02:17He read the letter and said, okay, my father says I need to help you.

02:20What help do you need? I said, I need to take Ganga water to Chennai.

02:26So I said, why? I told again the whole story.

02:29He said, okay. And he made some phone calls.

02:33Some blow blast industry who gave me the barrels.

02:36I took the barrels. Everywhere they're asking me, what are you going to do with it?

02:40I was telling the same story and everywhere the same sentences.

02:43Yes, sir. That was my standard question.

02:48So I went there. I took the barrels in the early morning, 5 o'clock.

02:52We went to the Ganga, the Ghats of Ganga, Triveni Sangam.

02:56And they were about to take the water from the Ganga water.

02:59I said, no, I have to go to the center of the river.

03:01Because my father said, you have to take the water from the confluence.

03:04From the Sangam. Okay. They put me on a boat.

03:07We went there. We took the water. We came back.

03:10And then we went to the train station.

03:13And the railway porters came and said, what is this?

03:16Same story again.

03:23So at the time I had just lost, finished all my money.

03:27500, 600 rupees was gone. I just had 20 rupees, I think.

03:30The porter said, okay, you need that money to go back to eat something.

03:34You get in. We will put the barrels in the goods wagon.

03:38So they put it. I came back.

03:41And finally we did it. I brought the water to Gangajal, to my home.

03:45But the point is, I never knew anyone.

03:49I don't know who the gentleman was.

03:51The son in Allahabad gave me food, gave me shelter.

03:55The blow-past industry man gave me this thing.

03:58The auto man held with the barrels.

04:00The railway porters helped me put the water into the train.

04:05What I realized subconsciously, at that time I didn't realize,

04:08but what I realize now is that,

04:11if you are sincere in your effort,

04:14if you are relentless in your pursuit,

04:16in this country, in this beautiful country,

04:19you will find people who will help you.

04:22Who will help you take the Ganga water from Prayag to Chennai.
