00:00There were times when I would be at the airport and someone would just say,

00:03Aarey, woh Tiger Shroff ki film mein aayi thi.

00:04My first Ram show, I messed up the choreography, someone scolded me in front of 50 models,

00:09I came back crying.

00:10While we were getting launched, I was with Tiger.

00:13Now Tiger had separate pressures because people were really looking at him.

00:17You know, like what is he going to do?

00:18Oh my God, he has to live up to the expectations of his dad and blah blah blah.

00:26So your dad is a CA, your mom's a professor,

00:29and you were an engineering graduate.

00:32Now tell me, were they always on board with this decision that

00:35engineering ke baad, you know, you wanted to become an actor?

00:37How did they come around?

00:38Honestly, when I started modelling, firstly, my dad was against modelling.

00:42And why is that?

00:43I mean, he just, he was like, you know, it's going to distract her.

00:47Kya faida hai? She's doing, she's such a studious kid.

00:50I was very, very nerdy.

00:51And then slowly my dad opened up to the idea of it.

00:54Like when he used to see my ads on TV, like he would be the first one to call,

00:57like people in the room that, oh, her ad's coming.

01:00When I started doing TV commercials, I realised that I like being in front of the camera.

01:04I had never ever acted before that.

01:07I used to always be in the dance troupe.

01:08So acting dramatics tha nahi kabhi.

01:11And then when I realised it, and I started dreaming of becoming an actor,

01:15I think they kind of realised that I was sort of thinking.

01:18And then I was like, you know, I want to try for films.

01:20And their point was, you have to complete your B.Tech and get a degree.

01:23We're not letting you go.

01:24A safety blanket.

01:26In that also, I think my mum was very concerned because I was actually a very shy kid.

01:31Extremely shy.

01:32My first photo shoot, my first Ram show, I've come back crying.

01:35So they've both gone really badly.

01:38My first Ram show, I messed up the choreography.

01:40Someone scolded me in front of 50 models.

01:43I came back crying.

01:44My first photo shoot, I was extremely nervous.

01:46And I could sense that I was really not doing a good job.

01:49And I sat in the auto and I came back crying.

01:51And I was like, mom, I don't think I can do this.

01:54And her point was that, you know, people in this industry are very thick-skinned.

01:57Like, really thick-skinned.

01:58And she used to give me examples of Priyanka Chopra and all these, you know.

02:02Look at how confident they are.

02:04You are pretty shy, you know, as a person.

02:06And maybe you can't handle this.

02:07Maybe it's not for you.

02:08And I think somewhere I've, over the time, I've taught myself confidence.

02:13I was not, I had stage fright.

02:14So I think they also probably didn't know that, that I could do it.

02:19But when I said that I really want to do this,

02:21I mean, they did discourage me in the beginning.

02:23But then eventually they were like, okay, you know,

02:25I don't want you to regret later that you could have.

02:28So go for it.

02:29Yeah, I mean, first of all, see how far you've come.

02:31Yeah.

02:32But I had that thing of,

02:33I have to get a good score in GMAT.

02:35So that was always there.

02:36You at some point have said that you got rejected at times for being too beautiful.

02:42No.

02:42Somebody had just said that to me that, you know,

02:44you need to have like some sort of flaws, some quirkiness, something unique to you.

02:50You're very generic beautiful.

02:54So I didn't know if it was a compliment or was it a comment?

02:57Was it a good thing?

02:58Was it a bad thing?

02:59You know, but at the same time,

03:00I was so new here that there were some people around me who were also telling me,

03:04you know, I think you should get this done.

03:06I think you should get like your nose fixed.

03:10I think you should, like, I was hearing a lot of things.

03:12So on one hand, I was hearing generically beautiful.

03:15And on the other hand, there were people telling me,

03:17get your teeth fixed and get this fixed.

03:19So I think it's a lot of noise.

03:21I think you just got to, like, believe in what you believe you are.

03:24You know, that's very important.

03:25When you got your first film and you were launched, you know, opposite a star kid.

03:32And of course, you're a rank outsider.

03:34And you've told us, you know, the number of auditions and all that that you've been through.

03:37Do you think at any level, of course, and I feel it exists,

03:41nepotism does exist, but there's nothing wrong with that.

03:43It doesn't mean that...

03:44It does exist in every field.

03:46And it doesn't also mean that the star kids have it easy.

03:49But do you think at some level, they underplay it?

03:53Do you think your peers who are star kids underplay the fact that it exists?

03:57See, it exists in every field.

03:59I think everyone has their own struggles.

04:19I had my own struggles.

04:20For me, I was like, OK, I hope people know my name.

04:23I don't know how to make people know my name.

04:25There were times when I would be at the airport and someone would just say,

04:34So I think everyone has their own struggles.

04:37For me, I feel like when you don't come from a film background,

04:41it takes way longer for people to register who you are.

04:44I had to make my name be audible, visible

04:48for people to connect my face to my name.

04:50Everything is so uncertain.

04:51You don't have someone backing you.

04:53You don't have like...

04:54That's why I needed GMAT to back me.
