Anushka Sharma's first-ever on-camera interview

Here’s a video of Anushka Sharma from 2008 talking about her debut film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. She turns 34 today.

00:00He tells me, Adi will be coming in and meeting you in five minutes.

00:05And I said, Adi who?

00:06He said, Aditya Chopra.

00:07I said, what? Are you serious?

00:14I think when I auditioned for the movie, there wasn't too much buzz around this film.

00:17It was really low key when I auditioned for it.

00:20So I didn't know much about the film.

00:23I just knew that it's a Yash Raj film and it's a reputed banner.

00:26So I was interested in, you know, trying my hand in it.

00:28My audition went well. I was given a few lines from DDLJ.

00:32When Simran is taking permission from her dad to go on the Euro tour.

00:36And I was told specifically that do not do what Kajol has done.

00:41Try to interpret it in your own way and process it the way you would represent the lines.

00:46It went well. I thought it went well.

00:49And after a few days I was told that I've been shortlisted but nothing was certain.

00:54And I was called the next time to audition.

00:58And Manish, he was the first AD of our film.

01:01He didn't tell me what's going to happen on that day.

01:05I think I reached there, I'm sitting down and he tells me,

01:09Adi will be coming in and meeting you in five minutes.

01:13And I said, Adi who?

01:14He said, Aditya Chopra.

01:15I said, what? Are you serious?

01:17I was a little taken aback, a little shocked.

01:20I don't know how it's going to go.

01:21I was a bit nervous.

01:22Actually, I was very nervous.

01:24But then he came and Adi was so nice to me and he made me feel so comfortable.

01:28And he said, just do whatever you think you should do right now.

01:32Just read the lines and tell me how you've auditioned earlier.

01:35And I did just that.

01:37And it moved further.

01:40There was a look test that happened.

01:42It was a photo shoot.

01:44At that point I thought, maybe things are getting a bit...

01:49They're progressing, they're going a bit forward.

01:52From that moment onwards, once I finished the shoot,

01:57I started praying.

01:59Praying so hard.

02:01If I'm fit for this, if I deserve to do this movie,

02:06then please bring this to me.

02:09And he did.
