James Cameron responds to “Titanic” door debate

Just let Jack rest in peace.

00:00No, Jack and Rose could not have both survived on that door in Titanic.

00:04Well, at least that's what James Cameron is saying.

00:06The director of the 1997 blockbuster is putting an end to a long-standing debate about whether

00:11Kate Winslet's character could have moved over and made some room for Leonardo DiCaprio's.

00:15Cameron said he commissioned a forensic analysis on the famous door scene to quote, put this

00:20whole thing to rest and drive a stake through its heart once and for all.

00:23The study involved putting sensors on two stunt people who were the same body mass as

00:27Winslet and DiCaprio and submerging them in ice water.

00:30A hypothermia expert concluded that the door could not have supported them both and only

00:34one person could make it out alive.

00:36In 2012, however, the makers of Mythbusters concluded that both Jack and Rose could have

00:40plausibly fit on the door.

00:42But even in that episode, Cameron disagreed and said quote, the script says Jack dies.

00:47He has to die.
