00:04in New York following its first major gun case in over a decade.

00:07So what was the case about and what does that mean for people in other states?

00:13The Supreme Court ruled that a New York gun regulation requiring residents to have proper

00:17cause to carry a concealed handgun is not constitutional.

00:20The century-old New York law imposed restrictions on the concealed carry of firearms in public.

00:25The challenge was brought by two New York men whose applications for concealed carry

00:29licenses were denied.

00:30They were backed by the NRA-affiliated New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.

00:35About six other states, including California, have similar laws to the one just struck down

00:39in New York and could be affected by the Supreme Court decision.

00:42In the wake of a series of deadly mass shootings, the 6-3 ruling could significantly expand

00:46Second Amendment rights.

00:47However, the decision will not have an immediate effect on the laws that are currently in place

00:52in New York City.

00:53This case has been remanded back to the lower court.

00:55So the important thing to know today is that nothing changes.
