BTS is enlisting in the South Korean military.

00:00The members of BTS will soon go on hiatus and enlist in South Korea's military.
00:05The announcement came from the band's label, offering clarification on whether the K-pop
00:09supergroup would be exempted from the mandatory service.
00:12South Korea requires all able-bodied men to enlist by the age of 28 and serve approximately
00:17two years.
00:18In 2020, BTS was granted a deferral, allowing them to put off military service until the
00:23age of 30.
00:25Exemptions can be granted for certain people, such as award-winning athletes and classical
00:29musicians, but pop singers do not qualify.
00:32During their service periods, the members may pursue solo careers.
00:35The eldest member of the band, Jin, who recently announced a solo single, will enlist later
00:40this month.
00:41BTS is expected to reconvene as a group around 2025.
