00:13the protesters were endangering themselves by getting too close to the edge of an open pit

00:17mine. This was one of many anti-expansion protests taking place throughout Germany.

00:21Several protesters in Dusseldorf protested by gluing themselves to a government building,

00:25others glued themselves to a street in Cologne, and roughly 120 activists overtook railroad tracks

00:30that connected to an RWE power plant near Ramerskirchen. Activists say the village,

00:34which has been evacuated and sealed off, has become a symbol for their fight against

00:38coal burning for energy, which increases emissions.
