Prince William given new role at launch event

The Prince of Wales has become Co-Patron of the “Jewel of Arabia Expedition”. His Royal Highness attended the London launch at the Royal Geographical Society. The Expedition aims to raise awareness amongst young people both in and outside of Oman of the value  of Oman’s natural heritage and biodiversity as well as the environmental challenges the country and the wider world face. 06:59Thank you everyone for joining us today. It's great for me personally to be back at the

07:12Royal Geographical Society for the launch of the Children of Arabia expedition. I'm

07:16delighted to be joined by His Highness Sayyid Hussain and I've just had the opportunity

07:20to go through some of the images from the RGS collection and they bring back all memories

07:24from my visit to Oman in 2019. This expedition will not only highlight Oman's rich biodiversity

07:30and natural heritage, it will also symbolise the enduring friendship between our two countries.

07:36This was again demonstrated by the recent visit to the UK by His Majesty the Sultan

07:41of Oman. The expedition will walk in the footsteps of British explorer Bertrand Thomas, taking

07:46in the wonderful coastline of Oman. They will be able to see the beauty of Oman but also

07:51see the damage done by climate change. I'm delighted to have won the winners of the

07:55Airstrop Prize awards last year, well actually it was in 2022, which was from Oman. 4401

08:02removes CO2 permanently by mineralising it in peridotite, a rock found in abundance in

08:07Oman, as well as in America, Europe, Asia and Australasia. I wish Mark and all the team

08:14the very best for your expedition. I wish I was able to join you and I'll be following
