Locals aren’t happy about Airbnb’s gladiator battles in Rome’s Colosseum

Airbnb is offering select participants to fight in Rome’s Colosseum, and locals are not happy about that.

00:00Airbnb is renting out the Colosseum in Rome, literally.

00:04The company is offering a unique experience in Rome's historic monument as part of a

00:07promotion for the film Gladiator 2.

00:10Airbnb will select a limited number of people to enter the Colosseum at night, explore the

00:14underground chambers where Gladiators prepared for their battles, and then armor up to fight

00:18their fellow guests.

00:19Two events will be held in May, each accommodating up to 16 people.

00:23While there's no charge, participants must pay their own way to Rome and find their own

00:26accommodations.

00:27However, some Romans are not happy about the new promotion.

00:31Rome's Council for Culture warned against turning one of the most important monuments

00:34in the world into a theme park.

00:36Airbnb said the Gladiator experience has been sensitively recreated, and has made a $1.5

00:41million donation to the Colosseum Archaeological Park to aid conservation and restoration efforts.
