00:00Mary Jane Veloso will be able to return home.

00:03This is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. confirmed.

00:06In an interview, the President said that this was the result of more than a decade of diplomacy and consultation with the Indonesian government

00:14that he caused the delay in the execution of Veloso until he agreed to return home.

00:20According to the President, a difficult battle was experienced by Mary Jane after she was arrested in the country in 2010.

00:27He also pointed out that Mary Jane's story is funny to many.

00:31A mother who was a victim of poverty, who made a desperate choice that changed the course of her life.

00:38Although she was proven to be guilty, the executive board decided that Veloso was also a victim of an opportunity.

00:44That is why the President thanked Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto

00:48for showing the goodness of heart that gave way for Veloso to return home.

00:54He only proved it with the deep understanding of the Philippines and Indonesia that he was united by justice and compassion.

01:01It is noteworthy that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. repeated Mary Jane's case in the courts

01:07that he was involved with the high-ranking Indonesian official.

01:10In fact, it was one of the President's bitter remarks when he attended the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Indonesia.

01:20Maybe it will change.

01:23For now, that is our position.

01:30We understand that the law in Indonesia is that way.

01:48The President and Indonesian President Joko Widodo also discussed Veloso's case in the 42nd ASEAN Summit.

02:15In the visit of former Indonesian President Widodo to the country last January,

02:19he insisted that he will re-examine Veloso's case following his arrest of President Marcos Jr.

02:24Mary Jane was imprisoned in Indonesia for more than a decade after she was arrested at Yogyakarta Airport in 2010

02:31due to the heroin found in her luggage.

02:33She was sentenced to death in the same year, but was released on execution in 2015

02:39due to the temporary reprieve of the Indonesian government.
