I thank you Jon M. Chu for thinking of me when he wanted someone wicked.
00:04
I think I want to bring all the food people to us.
00:07
Curry laksa, nasi kandar, nasi lemak, chicken hor fun and rojak.
00:13
I'm just listing out all the things that I want to eat now.
00:16
Hi Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh.
00:18
I'm Aryan from Golden Screen Cinemas Malaysia.
00:21
Apa khabar?
00:22
Khabar baik, apa khabar?
00:28
I'll just dive right in.
00:29
So you've done action, drama, comedy, sci-fi and now you're adding a musical under your belt.
00:36
What made Wicked the right choice for this new chapter in your career
00:40
and how does it feel to expand on an impressive portfolio with a musical?
00:45
I mean it was such an incredible opportunity to be able to be part of this
00:50
and I thank you Jon M. Chu for thinking of me when he wanted someone wicked.
00:56
It's like Michelle Yeoh frets the bell.
00:58
I always want to find something that's different, something that's challenging
01:03
and Jon presented me with all of the above.
01:06
I called him and I said you know the character that you're asking me to play
01:11
it's a musical, she sings and you know I don't sing right
01:14
and he goes like I'm sure you can and so I did.
01:19
Madame Morrible is certainly no easy character to play.
01:23
Apart from the singing, was there anything about that character that you found particularly challenging
01:28
and was there anything about her that you found surprisingly relatable?
01:32
Well the thing is with Madame Morrible is like if you watch Wicked the musical in the theatre
01:38
then whether in London or in New York, Madame Morrible is the villain.
01:44
But with Jon, he wanted this character to have much more complexities and nuances
01:50
and which is something that I agree with because it's like
01:53
it's no fun just playing one character on one note.
01:56
How do you make it more interesting?
01:57
How do you make it that you get surprised?
02:00
What happens when you are blinded by your own ambition and dreams
02:04
that you leave someone else's dreams and hopes and you dash their hopes?
02:09
I think we find that in a lot of people around us
02:11
and fortunately and unfortunately our world is filled with characters that we can see.
02:18
It's not just black and white, it becomes grey.
02:20
Whoever the hero is gets to write the story.
02:24
If you could bring any part of Oz to Malaysia and vice versa, what would they be?
02:30
Any part of Oz, I mean Emerald City is stunning
02:34
but as Madame Morrible, the University of Shiz.
02:38
Any aspects of Malaysia?
02:39
Oh wow, I think I want to bring all the food and the people to Oz.
02:44
You're making me hungry.
02:46
You're making me hungry.
02:48
If you had to bring top three foods from Malaysia for the citizens of Oz to taste, what would they be?
02:54
That's easy.
02:55
It's like curry laksa, nasi kandar, nasi lemak, chicken hor fun and rojak.
03:04
I have more.
03:06
I'm just listing out all the things that I want to eat now.
03:08
Do you have a special message for all Malaysians as we approach the release of Wicked?
03:13
Oh, I have a very special message to all my Malaysians out there.
03:17
22nd of November, go get to the movies to watch Wicked.
03:22
Fantastic.
03:23
Well, thank you so much for your time Tan Sri.
03:25
On behalf of all the Malaysians, I know I'm a year late
03:28
but we would like to say we are extremely proud of everything you've done in your career so far
03:32
and we are honored to call you one of our own.
03:35
Take care, all the best for Wicked.
03:37
See you soon.
03:38
Thank you, thank you.
03:42
Don't be afraid.
03:43
It's the wizard who should be afraid of me.
03:45
The wizard that there is or was is ever gonna bring me down.
