Four people got mauled by the criminal justice system ... after they dressed up in a bear costume and allegedly damaged several cars as part of a bizarre insurance fraud scheme in Southern California, authorities said.

00:16And they filed these bogus insurance claims.

00:19That ended up getting them $141,000.

00:30And the bear's like, grrrr.

00:32It's not the worst idea.

00:34How did they figure it out?

00:35When they sent the video to the investigator for the insurance,

00:38she said, this looks like a person.

00:40And then they had an expert come in, like on bears.

00:43And then they were like, this is a person.

00:44But how did they know it was them?

00:45Because then they went to their house.

00:47They're the ones that filed the claim.

00:48When they went to their house, there was the costume and the knife on.

00:51They left the costume in the house?

00:53Yeah, they answered the door in it.
