00:09This is due to China's illegal seizure of the Philippines' exclusive economic zone, or EEC.

00:17According to the National Maritime Council's violation of the Philippines' long-established sovereignty,

00:23They did not follow China's prohibition under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,

00:30as explained in the Arbitral Award in 2016,

00:34where it is only allowed to use straight lines if it is in compliance with the criteria and conditions of UNCLOS.

00:42Meanwhile, China violated the so-called base points and baselines

00:46a few days after the Philippines issued the Philippine Maritime Zones Act.
