Investigators learned of the plan to kill president-elect Donald Trump from Farhad Shakeri, an accused Iranian government asset who spent time in American prisons for robbery.

00:00The U.S. Justice Department has charged an Iranian man in connection with an alleged

00:06plot to kill Donald Trump.

00:09Farhad Shaqeri, an alleged Iranian government asset, told investigators that a contact in

00:14the Revolutionary Guard instructed him in September to assemble a plan to kill Trump.

00:19Shaqeri told investigators his contact said that if he couldn't put together a plan within

00:24a seven-day time frame, the plot would be paused until after the election because the

00:28official assumed Trump would lose.

00:31Shaqeri told investigators he was cooperating in a bid to get a reduced prison sentence

00:36for an associate who's in prison in America.

00:39The U.S. government said Shaqeri hasn't been arrested and is believed to be in Iran.

00:44Iran's mission to the United Nations has declined to comment.

00:48And a spokesperson for Trump said the president-elect was aware of the plot and nothing will deter

00:52him from returning to the White House and restoring peace around the world.
