00:03The problem is that every year we're consuming more,
00:07producing more, and there's a flip side to that.
00:12That no one wants you to see.

00:19I worked at Amazon for 15 years.
00:21It's a highly refined science to get you to buy stuff.
00:25They know you.
00:26Like, we know you.
00:28We were constantly developing new ways to get you to buy.
00:34Influencing your behavior in subtle ways that you'd never even realized.
00:39And every trick in the book is being used to hide what's really going on.
00:44They're doing what marketers always do,
00:46which is showing you the shiny little thing over here.
00:49Because they don't want you to look at what they're doing over here.
00:52This is what they do with unwanted merchandise.
00:55Amazon was dumping into landfills toys.
01:00The voices of, we're going to protect the business,
01:03went out over the little voice in your head saying,
01:05should we really be doing this?
01:08These things are hazardous waste.
01:10We're drinking them, breathing them, and they're poison.
01:16It just becomes this cycle of pain
01:18that may be providing you and your family with a lovely lifestyle.
01:22But you have to still reconcile that
01:24with things that are important to you as a human being.
01:28Everybody wants to believe that the company that they're working for is not evil.
01:33We can decide that this is not the way that we want to live
01:36and move it in a different direction.
01:38Every industry needs to stop putting it on the consumer,
01:40stop making it our responsibility.
01:42It's yours.
01:43Life is about experiences and the people that we're with
01:46and the stuff that we have supports it, but it's not the end.
01:48Whoever dies with the most stuff does not win.
