Govt plans to set up eight more permanent flood relief centres, says Nadma DG

The government has plans to establish eight more permanent relief centres (PPK) equipped with essential facilities to aid flood victims, says Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus.  The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) director-general said the estimated cost to build each PPK is around RM5mil, with construction expected to take up to 15 months. 00:00Preparations for MTL are done throughout the year, involving all agencies, NGOs and communities.

00:08So the preparation is not only delayed when the time for MTL is near, but we do preparations throughout the year.

00:19The first step is to hold a post-mortem session when the past MTL season ends.

00:27During this post-mortem session, we will evaluate the good things that we have done and also the things that need to be improved.

00:35One of the positive aspects of the post-mortem session is the information sharing with NGOs.

00:41Previously, we received and received information from NGOs,

00:46but now we receive information from government agencies and NGOs.

00:51This has led to a number of issues related to the distribution of aid and places that are suitable for receiving aid.

00:59How long does it take to prepare for the nine locations for the PPS?

01:11The process of building the PPS is a complete structure.

01:19It requires a technical specification process from technical agencies such as the UJKR

01:27to see if the location is suitable for receiving aid.

01:34The process takes about a year and a half to build the PPS.

01:47We plan to build the PPS continuously until it meets the needs of the community.

01:59We plan to replace the PPS with schools that are not built for relocation.

02:10With the PPS, we hope that schools will no longer be used for relocation,

02:18but the PPS will always be built in the school district.

02:24We also hope that the PPS will not be used during the disaster season,

02:31but will be used by the school district for its own purpose.

02:35What is the overall cost of the PPS?

02:40It depends on the area.

02:44According to the tenders made by the UJKR, the minimum cost is about RM5 million.
