00:33After a nail-biting night in Europe, projections show he won the key swing state of Pennsylvania

00:39and its accompanying electoral votes, putting him over the finish line.

01:01One of the most narrowly won states in both 2016 and 2020, Pennsylvania was considered

01:07a must-win state for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

01:11Trump made inroads in traditionally Democratic-leaning states, blocking Harris' path to the US presidency.

01:18Polls had initially projected a knife-edge battle in the voting stations, but Trump ultimately

01:24dramatically outperformed expectations.

01:26The billionaire businessman won other key swing states like Georgia and North Carolina,

01:31whose electoral college votes helped him to be re-elected as the US's head for his

01:36second term.

01:39Reactions from across Europe poured in on Wednesday morning as Donald Trump took to

01:44the stage in Florida to claim election victory after securing almost enough electoral votes

01:50to beat his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris.

01:53Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban was amongst the first EU leaders to congratulate

01:59Trump and describe his victory as the biggest comeback in US political history.

02:04It was followed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who said in a post on

02:08X that the US and the EU were more than just allies.

02:12Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed what she called her most sincere congratulations.

02:18While the French president also took to social media to congratulate Trump, Macron said he

02:23was ready to work together with the US president-elect, as they once did, for four years.

02:28Olaf Scholz, in his congratulatory message, said Germany and the US have been working

02:33together and will continue doing so.

02:36With the latest and crucial projections, Donald Trump secured enough electoral college votes

02:40dashing any hopes for Kamala Harris.

02:47With Republican candidate Donald Trump winning the US elections and his presidency around

02:52the corner, Europe holds its breath for what this could potentially mean for its economy.

02:57Trump has hinted at imposing a 10% trade tariff, which would make European goods imported

03:02into the United States more expensive.

03:06This is not good news for businesses in Europe, especially those in the auto sector exposed

03:11particularly in Germany.

03:13The new president-elect also spoke about increasing tariffs on China by a whopping 60%, mirroring

03:19Europe, who recently imposed a 45.3% tariff on the import of Chinese electric vehicles.

03:27Many fear this may instigate a trade war worse than the retaliation Beijing prompted onto

03:33Europe.

03:34Meanwhile, the dollar index jumped 1.5%, its biggest surge since March 2020, sending the

03:41euro currency down.

03:45As the results begin to roll in for the US election, Europe is beginning to wake up to

03:50a new chapter in transatlantic relations.

03:53Germany, one of the US' closest allies, has spent months this year preparing for both

03:58a second Donald Trump term and a Kamala Harris presidency.

04:02German MP Thomas Erndl says that Europe needs to ramp up its defence spending and prioritise

04:07its security.

04:09Every investment in a partnership must be justified by the voters and something must

04:15come back.

04:16We have to deliver.

04:17But I do believe that there are good reasons why we continue this transatlantic partnership,

04:23maybe even revive it even more.

04:26The rivalry with China will not be achieved by the US alone, I believe it will only be

04:32possible in cooperation with Europe, with a strong Europe, and that is why there is

04:38a good reason for the US to continue the partnership.

04:43Transatlantic coordinator and FDP Deputy Parliamentary Group Leader Michel Link warns that there

04:48is more at stake for the world if Ukraine loses the war.

04:52We should never forget that if Russia wins in Ukraine, China wins too.

04:58So the idea to say, maybe, let's shift some resources to restrain Chinese activities

05:09is an illusion to think that you have to shift it to Indo-Pacific.

05:15China is not an Indo-Pacific challenge, China is a global challenge.

05:19Look to Chinese activities in Latin America, or in Africa, or in Europe.

06:08Viktor Orban's Hungary.

06:10It's clear that a new dawn is about to break in Europe, but is it ready?

06:25A Russian strike on an infrastructure facility in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia killed

06:31at least six people on Tuesday, according to the regional governor.

10:48Workers across Europe are facing thousands of job cuts in multiple struggling sectors.

10:54German auto parts maker Schaeffler is to cut 4,700 jobs, mainly in Germany but also at

11:01other sites in Europe, demonstrating the challenges faced in the German car industry.

11:06Meanwhile, grocery chain Auchan has announced redundancy plans for over 2,000 jobs in France.

11:14A dozen outlets will close, including one supermarket and three hypermarkets, due to

11:27pioneer of hypermarkets.

11:30Auchan is planning to reduce its sales area by an average of 25% for hypermarkets.
