win of Donald Trump beginning to take shape.
00:03
And while thinking about all the promises that he once again made
00:08
in order to not only reduce migration into the United States,
00:13
but he promised thousands and thousands of deportations.
00:18
And of course, there's a lot of Hispanic community
00:20
that is fearing like what could happen afterwards.
00:24
So we talked about migration throughout this program,
00:30
but we haven't gotten into how could this translate
00:35
to the real world the day before the election
00:38
or not just after the election,
00:42
but the day after the new administration,
00:45
a possible new administration begins.
00:48
How can this promises that we know are sometimes upscaled
00:53
in order to be effective and draw in votes
00:57
and feed on the fear and the economy
01:03
and the economic threatens of the people.
01:07
How could this threatens to the Hispanic population
01:10
and the population in general be translated?
01:14
Could we be facing, for example, big amounts of deportations?
01:20
Yeah, the first thing that comes up for me
01:22
is that in the eight years of Obama,
01:26
yes, we can, si se puede,
01:29
with all of his, quote unquote, unifying rhetoric.
01:34
Obama actually deported many more immigrants
01:38
than were deported in the Bush years or any other years.
01:42
So it's important to, that's not to say that Trump is,
01:47
Trump is, that his threats are idle.
01:52
I think there is a reason to believe
01:53
that he represents a significant threat to Latinos,
01:58
to immigrants, to Muslims
02:00
with all of his hateful rhetoric and actions.
02:04
Why invest in building a border wall of apartheid,
02:09
of hatred, of xenophobia,
02:11
when you could invest that money in jobs and education
02:14
in the oppressed countries
02:16
so people aren't forced to leave their homeland.
02:18
These are not voluntary immigrants.
02:20
These are people who are,
02:22
their destiny has been usurped from them.
02:25
And we were talking about this right-wing trend earlier.
02:29
We mentioned Bolsonaro and Millet.
02:34
We shouldn't forget Luis Abinader,
02:36
the neoliberal lackey president of the Dominican Republic
02:40
who has built this Trumpian wall
02:44
along the Dominican-Haitian border
02:47
and who has been not just talking about
02:50
deporting tens of thousands of Haitians,
02:53
but actually doing it
02:55
without contextualizing the U.S.'s war on Haiti.
02:59
Every day more U.S. guns are leaked into Haiti.
03:04
Every day the threat of more U.S. intervention into Haiti.
03:10
What they've done now is they have paid
03:14
$333 million to Kenyan mercenaries.
03:19
There's 400 Kenyan police officers
03:21
and other Caribbean soldiers that are occupying Haiti right now.
03:25
This represents the fourth U.S. invasion,
03:29
occupation of Haiti in just the past 100 years.
03:33
We don't know exactly Trump and his bark versus his bite.
03:40
I remember in that 2016 to 2020 period in the Bronx, New York,
03:46
it was not uncommon for there to be WhatsApp groups
03:50
where immigrant rights advocates and family members
03:55
alerted one another,
03:56
ISIS here, ISIS at this subway station,
04:00
and ISIS deporting people from this housing project,
04:04
and they're invading here.
04:07
Remember the whole, the sanctuary cities
04:10
and people looking out for one another?
04:12
And that's one thing about a Trump victory.
04:14
It activates millions of people across the United States
04:18
who would otherwise be adormecidos,
04:20
would be fast asleep.
04:23
I'll give one example to demonstrate my point.
04:26
In the Bush years,
04:28
when we protested the war on Iraq and the war on Afghanistan,
04:32
we could get hundreds of thousands of people
04:34
to surround the White House and the Pentagon and Times Square
04:38
and in Los Angeles and San Francisco,
04:40
how many millions of people came into the streets
04:42
in those Bush years?
04:44
2008, Barack Obama's the president.
04:47
It's the same war on Iraq.
04:49
It's the same occupation of Afghanistan.
04:51
Overnight, our demonstrations go from hundreds of thousands
04:55
to hundreds or a thousand here, a thousand there.
04:58
Of course, in 2011, you have the dismemberment,
05:02
the bombing, the recolonization of Libya.
05:06
There were times where we had demonstrations
05:08
in defense of Libya.
05:10
There were only 12 of us or 14 of us
05:12
or 16 of us marching in the streets.
05:14
So the liberals, and Arnold August made this point earlier,
05:19
the Democratic Party is the graveyard of social movements
05:24
because it signals to the liberals
05:26
that somehow things are okay
05:28
because there's not a fascist in the White House,
05:30
but Joe Biden and Kamala Harris
05:32
weren't proto-fascists on some level.
05:35
Ask the Palestinian people, ask the Russian people,
05:37
ask the Chinese people, the Venezuelan people,
05:40
and ask people right at home,
05:42
how have they benefited from Biden
05:45
and Kamala Harris's last four years?
05:49
So the social movements across the country
05:51
are gonna have to be awake in communication,
05:55
but certainly in certain states like Texas or in Arizona,
06:01
it very well could mean that immigrant families
06:04
suffer a great deal.
06:05
We can't forget the separation of parents
06:09
and children on the border during the Trump years,
06:13
but this also happened in the Biden years,
06:16
so we can't be selective and segregate our tiers.
06:19
No, and let's recall that the Biden administration
06:22
were the ones that planned a joint invasion
06:26
or joint takeover of Haiti just a few months ago
06:31
and alongside Kenya and alongside other forces.
06:35
They were trying to go into force,
06:38
into full gear inside Haiti
06:41
and not to address the root causes of inequalities,
06:44
the root causes of what is happening right now
06:47
there in this humanitarian crisis that is going on
06:51
and that it takes back,
06:53
it dates back to other US administrations
06:57
with other installments and other invasions
07:00
of the Haitian territory and Haitian people.
