Nightly greetings one and all.
00:06
William Theo here, homegrown, and happy to bring you PTV News Now.
00:10
And tops on our stories tonight, when the president arrived in the towns of Talisay
00:15
and Laurel earlier today, he saw the widespread and extensive fallout left by severe tropical
00:21
storm Christine, which cemented his resolve that government's disaster response would
00:26
entail greater protection, prevention, reinforcement strategies, and enhanced intra-agency cooperation
00:33
on its rehab and rebuilding efforts moving forward.
00:37
Hence, he directed the Trade and Industry Department to actively participate in the
00:41
procurement of high-standard materials to build back better.
00:46
Likewise, he ordered a better warning forecast by the country's Weather Predicting Agency
00:51
and instructed dam water spill-off as standard operating procedure during extended storms
00:57
or deadly typhoons.
00:59
It comes as no surprise why the Philippines has been hailed as the paragon for disaster
01:05
response amid the worst effects of extreme climate change in the last Asia-Pacific Ministerial
01:11
Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.
01:14
The president and his team's initiatives speak volumes.
01:20
Meanwhile, the race for the 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will be decided by a tightly contested
01:27
count of the electoral votes.
01:29
But don't look now.
01:30
If the count extends well after 24 or 48 hours, the Trump team has made it known it will file
01:37
claims against perceived fraud or irregularities even without evidence to support them.
01:43
But the Harris team has prepped itself for such eventuality as VOA's Veronica Valderas-Iglesias
01:50
reports.
01:51
Earlier this year, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump told several media outlets
01:58
that if the results of the November 5th presidential election are, quote, honest, fair and free,
02:05
he would accept them.
02:08
Election officials are confident the voting process will be fair, secure and transparent.
02:14
But the former president has increasingly voiced concern about his opponents possibly
02:19
committing fraud.
02:20
If we can keep that cheating down, because there are a bunch of cheats, if we can keep
02:25
that cheating down, we're going to have a tremendous victory.
02:28
During an interview that aired last month on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, Vice
02:35
President Kamala Harris told NBC News anchor Hallie Jackson that her team will be ready
02:41
to go if Trump loses and attempts to subvert the election.
02:45
We will deal with election night and the days after as they come, and we have the resources
02:50
and the expertise and the focus on that as well.
02:55
The Republican National Committee has in place a so-called election integrity program in
03:01
battleground states.
03:03
Its lawyers have filed more than 100 lawsuits over perceived voting rules irregularities,
03:10
but many have been shut down in court.
03:14
Democrats have launched their own legal efforts, including suing to prevent potential delays
03:19
in the certification of Georgia's state election results.
03:23
In tight presidential races such as this year's, legal battles are expected.
03:30
Most of them will be fought in swing states, analysts predict.
03:34
At the polling place, we often see contests over whether or not ballots are being handled
03:44
properly.
03:45
In the post-election day period, there are disputes about whether or not individual voters
03:49
are actually eligible and whether their provisional ballots should be cast and counted.
03:56
Anyone who claims fraud, however, must present proof, legal experts warn.
04:03
Just be careful what you allege, make sure that you can prove it, otherwise they may
04:06
be subject to discipline, as we've seen growing out of the 2020 challenges.
04:12
Trump's former lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, for instance, was disbarred for spreading baseless
04:17
claims that the 2020 election was stolen.
04:22
The legal battles could delay the outcome of the presidential election.
04:26
But even Tuesday night, the results are clearly in favor of one presidential nominee over
04:32
another by some noteworthy margin.
04:36
Analysts say it will be much harder for the opposing party to contest those results.
04:43
Veronica Valdez Iglesias, DOA News, Washington.
04:48
At this juncture, let's shift focus to my colleague in PTV's Baguio City studios for
04:53
what's hot and happening in the Cordilleras, Ala.
04:58
Good morning Philippines.
04:59
Let's take a look at what's happening in the Cordilleras.
05:05
The Cordilleras Regional Office is monitoring the list of crimes committed by Campo Santo
05:11
that resulted in an accident.
05:14
It's good to know that there are volunteer groups and disciplines that are participating.
05:19
The police are encouraging online agencies to take part in the investigation.
05:25
The police have confiscated many cleaning materials.
05:29
It's time to collect them.

It's time to collect them.
05:38

05:53
to ensure the safety of our people.
