I want to officially welcome you to the 7th annual Ebony Power 100 presented by Nationwide.

Tonight is about celebrating our community.

Ebony is all about telling our stories, and not just the tragedies or the defeats, but

the victories, the innovations, and the successes.

This concept is as relevant today as it was more than 70 years ago when Ebony was founded.

Ebony for me growing up has been such a beacon of the community, it's such a representation

and reflection of us doing great things.

It was in my household growing up, every barbershop I ever went to.

As a kid it was like, yo, I want to be in Ebony magazine when I get older, that's amazing.

If Soul Train taught me how to dance, and Motown taught me how to love music, Ebony

taught me how to dream.

It is pure black excellence.

It's about love, it's about family.

Women of color, people of color, diversity, inclusion.

It feels fantastic.

We're limitless.

Give it up for everybody who's getting honored tonight.

Our honorees have truly galvanized and empowered our communities.

They have each used their national platforms to bring light to social justice issues.

We're honoring 100 amazing people who are doing amazing things.

This is very significant to me, because you just never know if your work is being recognized

on this level.

It's so difficult doing the work, but when you receive validation, it makes you say I'll

rise up to keep going.

There are many, many dimensions to the black experience.

The fact that Ebony has made it an intentional part of their work to show the rich array

of black experience is hugely important to the next generation, to see the growth and

development over the arc of time in our communities.

I think you can be rich, you can be famous, you can be well-connected, but you're not

powerful if you're not leaving the world better than we inherited it.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Ebony for allowing me to be a part of this beautiful
