People on the street: NHS Funding

With the budget now having been announced and billions of pounds being dedicated towards the NHS, we went out into Manchester to ask people on the street if they would be happy to pay higher taxes to get better service from the NHS.

00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World. Today, I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people about NHS funding.

00:05Essentially, we want to know if people would be willing to pay higher taxes and have better quality public services.

00:09And if they did commit to higher taxes, would they trust that the money was going where they wanted it to?

00:14What improvements would they want to see?

00:16More hospitals. I've had family members recently that have had to go to hospital for quite serious emergencies that have been sitting in a

00:23corridor on a bed for six, seven, eight hours. If they said to me,

00:26pay an extra £50, £60 a month, but we're going to build a new hospital that will basically halve the workload in that hospital,

00:33I would back it 100%.

00:35Tax the rich in it, I say, but in terms of NHS, you know, it is in a bad place.

00:40I've been on some waiting lists, you know, dental and medical care, and it's not ideal, is it?

00:46You know, I mean, so if you could throw some more money at the NHS, I think that's a wonderful idea.

00:50I went to AD last year,

00:52but it was because this was when we were at our previous doctors before we moved. I couldn't get an appointment,

00:58so that was the only other option.
