00:53Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:58We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:16On the first day of debates, the member countries of the United Nations demanded the United
01:20States to lift the economic blockade it has imposed in Cuba for more than 60 years and
01:26that the Caribbean nation be excluded from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor
01:30terrorism.
01:31During the day, several member blocs, such as the non-aligned countries Groups of Friends
01:36in Defence of the United Nations Chartered, CELAC, CARICOM, the African Group and G77
01:42Plus China, underlined that the US blockade is the major obstacle that Cuba faces in its
01:49efforts to achieve its development goals.
01:52The non-aligned government expressed its concern regarding the impact of the blockade on the
01:57livelihood of the Cuban people, while CARICOM urged the US to take measures to rebuild relations
02:03with the Caribbean island to strengthen multilateralism.
02:12The permanent representative of Singapore, on behalf of the Association of Southeast
02:16Asian Nations, remembered that the General Assembly adopted the resolution of ending
02:21the embargo 31 times before.
02:24The diplomat later highlighted the negative impact of the blockade on ordinary Cuban people.
02:31The General Assembly has adopted this resolution 31 times, by an overwhelming majority, since
02:411992.
02:43Each year, nearly all UN member states vote in favour of the resolution.
02:51This reflects the international community's strong support for the principles enshrined
02:57in the UN Charter, namely sovereign equality, non-interference, non-intervention and the
03:04settlement of disputes by peaceful means to preserve international peace and security
03:10and justice.
03:11This has affected the trajectory of sustainable development across the board in Cuba and negatively
03:17impacted the lives of ordinary Cuban people.
03:22The US embargo has cost Cuba over US$164 billion at current prices.
03:31From March 2023 to February 2024 alone, the blockade cost Cuba over US$5 billion in loss
03:42The Iraqi permanent representative, on behalf of the G77 and China, spoke out against the
03:48US blockade imposed on Cuba and its extraterritorial policies, noting they all violate the right
03:54to trade freely of all nations.
04:00We are deeply concerned about the widening of the extraterritorial nature of the embargo
04:06on Cuba, notably through the full implementation of Title III of the Helmholtz-Burton Act.
04:15The application of this law is a clear transgression to the freedom of commerce among nations because
04:23of its intimidating purpose by punishing any trade or investment transactions between any
04:31given country and Cuba.
04:34In this context, the permanent representative of Venezuela to the United Nations, Samuel
04:38Moncada, stressed the hardship of the Cuban people as a result of the US coercive policies.
04:45Embargo against Cuba constitutes a massive violation of the human rights of its people.
04:51No Cuban family escapes its impacts.
04:54This was particularly clear in recent days when the power grid of this sisterly nation
05:01was seriously damaged, leaving entire families without electricity for days.
05:07This is a direct consequence of the embargo that was celebrated on social media by US
05:16representatives, recognizing their responsibility for a clearly criminal policy.
05:21Likewise, in this context, PHD Deputy Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United
05:26Nations, Leila Lora Santos, stressed the urgent need to immediately lift the US blockade
05:32against Cuba as it has been a global claim for 30 years.
05:37The Philippines aligns itself fully with the statements delivered by Singapore on behalf
05:42of ASEAN, Uganda on behalf of NAM, and Iraq on behalf of the Group of 77 and China.
05:49The Philippines supports the implementation of General Assembly Resolution 78-7 on the
05:54necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial embargo by the US against Cuba.
06:01The report of the Secretary General clearly shows that the international community once
06:06again strongly supports an end to the six-decade embargo, an unjust and unjustified sanctions policy.
06:15In addition, the Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations, Enrique Vasconcelos
06:20Cruz, reaffirmed his nation's support to Cuba, highlighting they will continue cooperating
06:26in all areas with the nation.
06:30Once again, we express our firm support for Cuba, a country with which Mexico will continue
06:37to work in order to overcome the joint challenges that we face, and do this through cooperation,
06:46dialogue, and regional integration, as we proved in recent days by offering all the
06:53help that we could to Cuba after the electric crisis, the grid crisis, that turned out the
06:59lights on the island for several days.

07:34Welcome back to From the South.
07:53In Palestine, the displaced people settled inside a stadium outside the city of Gaza
07:58due to the ongoing Israeli bombardment of the so-called safe zones.
08:03The refugees expressed their discomfort due to the precarious conditions they are living
08:07in and their fear of the coming winter after the intensification of the Tel Aviv offensive
08:13against the towns of Avelia, Beit Lahya, and others in the north of the Gaza Strip.
08:18Thousands of Palestinian families were forced to move again.
08:21According to local media, the Israeli occupation army intensified its siege of the northern
08:26Gaza Strip in early September and launched a campaign to limit the delivery of humanitarian
08:31aid to Palestinians.
08:38In Palestine, the Israeli army attacked on Tuesday a group of international observers,
08:42including the former major of Barcelona Ada Colau and the European deputy Jaume Essens.
08:49Local media confirmed that the entire delegation is safe after the event took place around
08:539 am local time.
08:55According to the information, the observers were campaigning a group of Palestinian farmers
09:00while they were picking olives in the occupied West Bank.
09:04According to the former major of Barcelona Ada Colau, the Israeli occupation forces attacked
09:09without exchanging words with the delegation nor with the Palestinian citizens.
09:19In Iran, Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Araghishi demanded the United Nations Security Council
09:24to impose sanctions on Israel for the massacre of civilians in Gaza and Lebanon and its military
09:30interference in the area.
09:31During a meeting with the ambassador of foreign countries in Tehran, the Iranian diplomat
09:37warned that the Tel Aviv regime is threatening the peace and security of Middle Eastern nations
09:42with its war actions against the people.
09:45He also emphasised that the United Nations Security Council must act against the insistence
09:50of the Zionist regime to continue the war and prevent more innocent bloodshed in Gaza
09:55and Lebanon.
09:56In this regard, he called on the international community to take immediate and collective
10:00action against the flagrant violations of international law committed by Israel.
10:10On related topics, also in the United Nations, during a meeting of the Security Council,
10:16Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Samir Saeed Irvani pointed out that the Israeli
10:21attacks on Iran are a flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
10:51The Iranian representative accused the United States of being an accomplice of the Israeli
11:05regime in the genocide perpetrated against the peoples of Palestine and Lebanon.
11:09The United States' involvement in Israeli aggression through its provision of technical
11:16expertise and advanced military systems to Israel has further instigated and emboldened
11:22Israel to conduct aggressive attacks against Iran.
11:26Therefore, the U.S. government is complicit in Israeli aggression and will bear its consequences.
11:34Furthermore, the United States has already been complicit in the ongoing war crimes and
11:40genocidal campaign targeting civilian and civilian infrastructure both in Gaza and Lebanon.
11:48The vast majority of bombs Israeli drops on Gaza and Lebanon are U.S.
11:53Two pro-Palestinian activists were interrogated on Tuesday by a court in Spain for showing
11:58their support to the Palestinian people after the aggressions perpetrated by the Israeli
12:03regime.
12:04Both defenders of the Palestinian people are being investigated for crimes of glorification
12:08of terrorism, for their alleged support to the Palestinian resistance during the event
12:13Defense of Palestine and Criminalization in Europe held in the Spanish Congress on June
12:183, 2024.
12:20Both women were denounced by the political party Vox, which assures that all expressions
12:26in favor of Palestine represent a support to terrorism.
12:30In this sense, the international organization denounced that these declarations limit freedom
12:35of expression, make the struggle of the Palestinian people invisible, and trigger a criminal persecution
12:41against those who defend the freedom and independence of the State of Palestine.
12:50In China, local press announced on Tuesday that one houses the only women's spaceflight
12:55engineer in part of the Shenzhou-19 mission, which will take off on Wednesday, the Jikwan
13:01Satellite Launch Center in northwest of the country.
13:05The mission, made up of three astronauts, will lift off at 4.27 a.m. local time on Wednesday,
13:11heading for Tiangong Space Station, located around 450 kilometers above the Earth's surface.
13:19Authorities reported that the team will return to Earth in late April or early May 2025,
13:26while the crew that is now aboard the Tiangong Space Station is expected to come back to
13:32Earth on November 4, after completing handover procedures with the incoming astronauts.
13:37Regarding spaceflight engineer Wang Haozhe, deputy director of the China Manned Space
13:42Agency remarked her preparation.
13:45Let's listen.
13:50Before being selected, Wang Haozhe was a senior engineer at the Academy of Aerospace Liquid
13:55Propulsion Technology of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
14:01She is currently the only female aerospace flight engineer in China and will also be
14:05the third woman in China to carry out manned spaceflight missions.
14:09Russia launches ballistic and cruise missiles as part of the nuclear deterrence exercise
14:16to prepare to respond to a similar future attack by an enemy.
14:20The Russian defense ministry reported that during the strategic exercise, an intercontinental
14:25ballistic missile was launched and the strategic nuclear missile submarine of the Russian Pacific
14:30Fleet was put into operation.
14:33At the same time, several long-range aircraft were part of the exercise by launching cruise
14:38missiles in the air, all of them hitting their targets.
14:41President Vladimir Putin stated that the use of nuclear weapons is a measure of last resort
14:47to ensure the security of the country and that Moscow won't be dragged into an arms race.
14:58I would like to point out that Russia confirms its fundamental position on the use of nuclear
15:02weapons as an extremely exceptional measure to ensure the security of the state.
15:07At the same time, we are fully aware that the nuclear triad remains a reliable guarantor
15:12of the sovereignty and security of our country, and allows us to solve the problems of strategic
15:17deterrence, as well as to maintain nuclear parity and the balance of power in the world
15:22as an essential element of global stability.
15:28Vladimir Putin stressed that in the face of current geopolitical tensions, Russia will
15:32maintain its nuclear forces at the necessary level of sufficiency.
15:39In view of increasing geopolitical tensions and the emergence of new external threats
15:43and risks, it is important to have modern strategic forces that are always ready for
15:48combat.
15:49We will continue to improve all its components.
15:53We have the resources to do so.
15:56I emphasize that we will not engage in a new arms race, but we will maintain nuclear forces
16:01at the necessary level of sufficiency.

16:48Eight days before the presidential elections in the United States, the candidates are intensifying
16:53their campaign events to get the undecided vote in key states.
16:57President Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump are in the final stretch of their election
17:02campaigns and in the battle to win votes, with only one week to go before the presidential
17:07election, which will be held on Tuesday, November 5th.
17:11Kamala Harris describes her campaign closing as the final play against the Republican candidate,
17:16while Trump returned to Pennsylvania, one of the seven states that will be called to
17:21tip the balance.
17:22According to experts, states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, among others, could change
17:28the results of the election due to the large number of undecided citizens in these states.
17:39In this context, Donald Trump is holding on Tuesday a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania,
17:44located about 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
17:48The former president is looking to notch a victory in the Keystone State after he won
17:53Pennsylvania in the 2016 presidential election, but lost in the 2020 election.
18:00On the other hand, Kamala Harris is in the nation's capital.
18:03She is delivering a closing argument for her campaign at the Ellipse, the same spot where
18:09Trump gave a fiery speech nearly four years ago before a crowd of his supporters stormed
18:15the U.S. capital on January 6th, 2021.
18:26The governments of Vietnam and Venezuela strengthen cooperation with new investment agreements
18:31of mutual interest.
18:33This Tuesday, Venezuela's executive vice president, Elsie Rodriguez, met with the president of
18:37Vietnam, Luong Kwon, during her official visit to the Asian country with the purpose of strengthening
18:42relations between both nations.
18:45The meeting took place in Vietnam at the presidential hall, where topics such as investment, oil,
18:50agriculture and telecommunications were discussed.
18:54On the other hand, the vice president of Venezuela is expected to address issues related to investment

19:05relations between both countries.
19:11The Argentinean State Workers' Association began a new national strike on Tuesday in
19:16rejection of the worsening of the economic crisis during the presidential administration
19:20of Javier Milley.
19:21During the mobilization, the workers' union demanded the national government to reinstate
19:27those public administration employees who were unfairly dismissed by the executive.
19:32Likewise, the State Workers' Association recalled that over 75% of the state workers receive
19:38incomes below the poverty line, and those who work in the provinces and municipalities
19:43of the country are the most affected.
19:45The protest will continue in the city of Buenos Aires until this Wednesday, October 30, to
19:50coincide with the general transport strike, scheduled for the same date.
20:00In Ecuador, the government announced its intention to negotiate the purchase of energy from Colombia

20:10The president of the Energy Chamber, Roberto Espiazu, declared to the press that a private
20:15Colombian company offered some 200 megawatts to alleviate the problem nationwide.
20:21He also reiterated that although the flow of the rivers that feed the hydroelectric
20:25plants has increased with the recent rains, the solution to the energy crisis will depend
20:31on the contracting, renting or purchase of energy.
20:34At the same time, the president, Daniel Navoa, informed that he will travel to Colombia to
20:38attend the COP16 session and to meet with President Gustavo Petro to discuss the re-establishment
