Matthew Perry's family is reflecting on the late actor's hopes before his untimely death at the age of 54 ... sharing the "Friends" star was eager to start a family of his own.

00:00Matthew Perry had big plans a year ago when right before his death and we'd heard the part about him

00:06Really wanted to get back into Hollywood that he was looking at scripts

00:10There was a one project a TV project

00:13He was deep into and considering but there were other plans for his personal life that his family are now speaking out about

00:21We told you we showed you a little bit of their interview with on today's show

00:25There was more that they had to say to NBC and it

00:28Family as well as some very close friends

00:32It's really sad what he's not getting to accomplish in his life Matthew was so

00:40Desperate for a solution to all of this and he talked about I it's time for me to have a

00:47Wife and it's time for me to have children and I want that and I you know

00:53I want a dog running around the house

00:55But he didn't appreciate

00:58the

00:59Frightening aspect of this medication. He spent his last Christmas

01:03Here at my house. I don't know somehow that's comforting. How did he seem to you?

01:08He just seems like he had he was on the right path. He was absolutely on the right path. He was writing

01:15He was reading scripts. He wanted to

01:17Direct, you know, the book had I just put a massive spark in his in his step

01:23Which were childhood friends what I find really interesting about this is

01:28And I think it's so instructive for people who are struggling is that you know

01:32There are a lot of people who think well if somebody's an addict

01:34They've just chosen that path and that's where they want to be a lot of addicts

01:40I don't know if it's most addicts, but I would guess it's most addicts. They're not happy in that place and

01:46They want like he said a family or they want, you know children or that, you know, they want to work and

01:53You know, it doesn't mean because they're in this dark place. They don't have those desires

01:59It's that they're in the grips of something and that they and and Matthew Perry was, you know

02:05Again, when you read his book, it's so moving

02:07he was in and out of that or most of his adult life and he

02:13Appreciated what it would be like to be sober what it would be like to have that kind of life and it just makes it

02:19Sadder, you know, it just makes it sadder and it's just really sad that you know toward towards the end of his life

02:24He was you know, really wanted this idea of kids and have a wife

02:28I know he dated a lot of people throughout his life. He was engaged once they broke off the engagement

02:33You you saw these stories actually just a couple years ago where he was, you know on dating apps

02:38Which you were kind of shocked to be like Matthew Perry is on I mean he was on Raya

02:43Which is like a higher echelon one

02:44But but still like it just showed like he really did want to find a partner and you know

02:50All the substance abuse issues kind of got in the way of that and speaking of substance abuse

02:53I thought it was really interesting that his mom had said

02:58That didn't understand that how scary this medication clearly she's talking about ketamine

03:04Was and it's unclear to me whether she's I don't think she's saying he shouldn't have been treated with that under the care of a

03:11Doctor, I think she's saying if he had realized the risk that he wouldn't do it on his own exactly

03:17At least not in the quantity that he was doing it

03:20You know, it's I will say a year into this they have processed a lot

03:25But it's also something by the way that they've gone through and Keith even had said shortly after

03:34Horrible, but not necessarily surprising. Yeah, because it's something that they all kind of lived through for many many years
