00:00In Hawaii, everybody's closely connected.
00:08You call everybody uncle, you call everybody auntie.
00:11They're not necessarily that by blood, but just through respect.
00:15And I do feel like using like my brothers and sisters, Ariel, she feels like an auntie
00:20to me, you know what I mean?
00:27The water is unpredictable.
00:28You know, when people go, oh, it'd be cute to work with a little baby or a dog, and then
00:31you work with them, you're like, hey, f**k itself in the middle of the trade.
00:35It's like it looks beautiful, but it's dangerous, and it's chaotic, and it can be windy, and
00:39the swell can be big.
00:40We're lucky we've got the best safety team ever.
00:43It's like a baby s**t.
00:44Right, everyone watches a movie.
00:45Have you ever tried to film with it?
00:46It's nearly impossible.
00:47No matter what it looks like on the sand, what I've really learned is what you feel on land
00:55is nothing compared to the conditions once you're in the water.
00:58Coming!
00:59I remember on the jet skis, we had to turn everything off because these whales just went
01:05straight past us like five meters away, just threw us all.
01:09It was unbelievable.
01:10That was sick.
01:11Yeah, that was cool.
01:12We were in the tower.
01:13There's a thing with filming out there.
01:17Yesterday we saw a seal.
01:18Oh, yeah.
01:19We were on the jet ski.
01:20A whale.
01:21Yeah, the other day we were filming, there was like four sea turtles right at the tower.
01:26It was so beautiful.
01:28We saw stingray, which is really cool.
01:31We always take it as a sign, as a good sign.
01:33It's like when it rains, I say, oh f**k, it's raining.
01:36And then what about the ice?
01:37It's a blessing.
01:38It's a blessing.
01:39I've never seen it like that.
01:40I've never looked at it like that.
01:41Get ready to make it rain, man.
01:44For me, playing like the first female defendant in ocean safety, I offended.
01:51I've definitely felt the weight and the honor of the women that have come before me and
01:57hopefully the women that are going to come after me.
01:59And I've had some really amazing experiences off set that I really value.
02:05I want to bring to set.
02:07I've had girls in a grocery store, when I went there, my lifeguard out there asked me
02:11if I was going to be a new lifeguard because there's only two up here.
02:16And they wanted to know who the third one was going to be.
02:19I had no idea how brave and heroic and intense and could have never understood until I got
02:27here how crucial they are, but just how selfless and brave they are.
02:32We're dealing with this in real life.
02:33There's no chance I would know how to stay calm and in the water, stuck out there trying
02:37to swim a body that's limp.
02:39So much more that comes with knowledge of the water.
02:41Even growing up here, like I didn't realize, you know, how hard these people work.
02:48Just because of like what we see on TV, what we're used to just seeing.
02:51You just think they're kind of hot and they just kind of cruise, but it's so much more
02:55than that.
02:56And people's lives are in your hands.
02:57So it's a huge responsibility.
03:00Some real lifeguards do just kind of like look good.
03:03I think just being here in this environment, even though I was born and raised here, it
03:08doesn't matter where you come from, who you are, how old, how small, how big, how tall.
03:12You spend a good amount of time with each other and we're going to make sure you feel
03:15like Ohana.
03:16You feel like family and we're all in this together.
