00:00Despite the controversy now being hurled against them,
00:03House lawmakers handling the probe on the war on drugs
00:06remain focused on their goal of unearthing the truth
00:09when it comes to the controversial and bloody campaign
00:13of the previous administration.
00:15Melal S. Moras has this report.
00:19Nor will we be deterred from seeking accountability.
00:23We are committed to ensuring
00:25that the victims of the war on drugs receive justice.
00:29The House Squad Committee has vowed not to back down
00:32in their pursuit of truth and justice
00:35despite the controversial allegations thrown against them.
00:38During the Senate hearing yesterday
00:40on former President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs,
00:43Police Colonel Hector Grijaldo accused
00:46Quadcom Co-Chairman Dan Fernandez and Bienvenido Abante, Jr.
00:50of allegedly pressuring him to support the revelations
00:53made by former PCSO General Manager
00:56and retired Police Colonel Royina Garma
00:58on the alleged reward system in Duterte's illegal drugs war.
01:02But the House leaders vehemently denied it.
01:05Well, that's their script.
01:07They can do whatever they want.
01:09He will defend himself against repercussions
01:12but we will not take that sitting down.
01:14Of course, his allegations of coercion, harassment,
01:19and under oath are heavy.
01:21And now we will do something.
01:23Abante said this issue should not overshadow
01:26former President Rodrigo Duterte's acknowledgement
01:28of full responsibility for the crimes committed
01:31during the war on drugs.
01:33Abante believes this could pave the way
01:35for local and international prosecution.
01:38So as soon as possible,
01:39the concerned agencies should now focus on this matter.
01:43These cases could include crimes against humanity
01:47as penalized under Republic Act No. 9851,
01:51the Philippine Act on Crimes Against
01:54International Humanitarian Law,
01:56genocide, and other crimes against humanity.
02:01That's the title of the Republic Act.
02:04And other criminal laws,
02:06not to mention the potential jurisdiction of the ICC.
02:09For their part, the young guns have also demanded
02:12for Duterte to face the full force of the law
02:15and go to jail for the alleged extrajudicial killings
02:18committed during his administration.
02:20House Deputy Majority Leader Jude Asidre said
02:23Duterte must be held accountable
02:25as this is not about politics but justice.
02:28House Assistant Majority Leader Paulo Ortega added
02:31that if Philippine authorities do not act,
02:34the International Criminal Court could step in
02:36to carry out the crusade for justice
02:38for all thousands who died without due process
02:41under Duterte's war on illegal drugs.
02:44In an ex-Quadcom hearing next week,
02:46the congressmen urged Duterte to appear
02:48and explain to them clearly
02:49how his policy on his war on illegal drugs
02:52was intended for the welfare of all Filipinos.
02:56Melales Moras from the National TV Network
02:58for a new and better Philippines.
