00:00Tonight, it's a front yard free-for-all for our final week working on our block houses.
00:11If you've got any leftover concrete, lads, just send it down to House 3.
00:15But it's not a fair playing field for the girls in House 1.
00:19We can't even do, like, our deck.
00:21Our site has been a storage facility for, like, since day one, for the entire block.
00:25One team is flying high with plenty of cash to splash.
00:29You're talking nearly nine grand.
00:30Just because we've got 30 grand, we don't want to make a circus.
00:32Like, we want to do it tastefully.
00:34I love this idea. I think it'll look really nice.
00:36Yeah.
00:37We believe we're delivering a award Mustang-winning garden.
00:41And the boys from House 3 are left rocked by a massive error in judgement.
00:46We stood back and looked at it and went, oh, God, what have we just done?
00:51Oh, my God.
00:52This is a complete disaster, boys.
00:55You guys actually did this.
00:58Oh, this is going.
01:06Brad's like, oh, you know I'd follow your OnlyFans.
01:13It was so inappropriate, it wasn't even funny.
01:20We've got a situation.
01:21Oh, what's happened, Scotty?
01:23Kylie, she went off to her flooring extra consult this morning.
01:32It was seen with a small bag.
01:36She went to the flooring extra consult and then she's never been seen since.
01:42She's not been seen.
01:49We've done everything we can to locate her
01:51and we've just discovered she's landed in Brisbane.
01:56She's gone back home.
01:57She's landed in Brisbane at about 20 minutes ago.
02:00We're assuming that she's heading to Cairns.
02:06All right, so I'm saying goodbye.
02:08I can't be on national television with having my marriage breaking down.
02:14I'm going home and I can't say I'll be returning.
02:19So we went to the cafe today and Tina and Lulu basically said
02:24that Brad said something to Mimi on Saturday night
02:27while they were all having a drink.
02:29But Kylie was asleep.
02:31And it turns out she apparently wasn't.
02:33And then she wasn't asleep.
02:34But we don't know what Brad has said.
02:36Now, I think it might, yeah, if she's left,
02:39it's obviously something that's pushed her over the edge.
02:44Are you going to call me again in the morning or what?
02:46No.
02:47What I did when I was drunk is none of my business.
02:50It's none of mine either.
03:00I'd very much say that I've just single-handedly destroyed my family.
03:17I love you.
03:30It's not true
03:36Tell me I've been lied to
03:41Crying isn't like you
03:50Morning everyone.
03:55One day.
03:58So we'll have all the deliveries the same as always,
04:01every day this week and last week.
04:03If you know what's going on, put it on the whiteboard,
04:06help traffic, help us in the streets.
04:08Knowing Kylie, do you think it's likely that she'll come back?
04:14I guess I don't know.
04:18I don't know what's going to happen.
04:31Is that house three's true call?
04:34We can't even do like our deck.
04:36We can't do our pavers.
04:37It's not really a level playing field when we can't do anything.
04:42The house type had everything under the sun on it.
04:46It had house two, three and four's true call.
04:49It had nine and six's eve.
04:52It had every single person's paint.
04:54It had timber.
04:56It had people's fireplaces and pots.
04:58And so it was like literally like a garage sale.
05:03Hayden, do you want to...
05:04That's your true call.
05:05Oh, is this yours? You're coming to get it?
05:06What's that?
05:07That's yours.
05:08Oh, yeah, sweet.
05:10Bit of everyone else's crap on our land.
05:12So what happens is the deliveries get dropped at ours
05:16and then I think they either don't come and get them
05:18because they don't need or they don't have space
05:21so they just leave them there.
05:23Our site has been a storage facility for like...
05:25Since day one.
05:26Yeah.
05:27For the entire block.
05:28Let's come up with a game plan.
05:30Yeah.
05:31What's better for you guys for them to concentrate on?
05:33This paving. We need to get that paving slab in.
05:35So the big open will be gone.
05:36Yeah.
05:37And then we can get that cladding moved somewhere else.
05:39So that cladding in there, we want ASAP done.
05:41Because we need to do a deck in there.
05:43Nine and six are cladding the front of our house.
05:46So they've essentially got their scissor lifts,
05:48their scaffolds, all the things set up
05:50like directly where you would have a garden bed.
05:53So there's no hope for doing any softscaping today.
05:57Softscaping refers to the living, growing elements
05:59of your landscaping.
06:00These include trees, shrubs, flowers, grass
06:02and all other horticultural components.
06:04But we're going to at least try and get...
06:06Attempt.
06:07..a concrete slab down for our front path.
06:10Maddie and Charlotte's front pathway
06:12will feature a bright white Beaumont tile
06:15that will be lined with only very young plants
06:18simply because...
06:21Because of the budget, like, I can't have heaps of plants.
06:25I can't do any water feature.
06:27I can't have custom, like, doors
06:29that I would have loved to have had.
06:31So we've just had to really strip it back.
06:33Like, it's still going to be beautiful.
06:35And there's, like, there is beauty and simplicity.
06:38But it's just not anything extravagant.
06:51Have you heard about Kylie?
06:53No.
06:55Apparently, she's gone.
06:59What do you mean, gone? Like, off the island?
07:01That's what we've been told, that maybe she's left.
07:03Like, gone home.
07:05To Cairns?
07:06Apparently. We haven't seen Brad.
07:08I don't think I'll see Brad.
07:10Yep.
07:11So I don't know if you should check up on her or something.
07:16I don't have anything, OK?
07:18Of hers.
07:19I can contact her.
07:20Oh, hell, yeah.
07:21If she's not here.
07:23She was really bad yesterday.
07:25Did she speak to you?
07:26Barely. Like, we tried to ask.
07:28Barely got a hello.
07:29And she just said she was pretty much done.
07:31Brad seemed very down.
07:34I don't think they were talking yesterday.
07:37Is she, like, gone-gone?
07:39Apparently. Yep.
07:42Which probably makes... I think she did need a breather.
07:44She did need a...
07:46HE SIGHS
07:51Hopefully it's just a couple of days.
07:55They said that Kylie's gone home.
07:57Is this the first you're hearing of anything like that?
08:02Do you know why she's left?
08:04I don't know. Maybe landscaping?
08:09So she's home?
08:12She's right there.
08:14Was that, like, an up and left, or was it a discussion, or...?
08:21HE SIGHS
08:29I don't know. Like, she's always, like, threatening to leave and stuff,
08:32but I never think she'd actually leave.
08:35Especially with, like, two weeks left.
08:42Morning, guys.
08:44I'm gonna go get a vest before I get in trouble.
08:48I'm just gonna get a coffee, Grant.
08:50All right.
08:51The news is getting back through.
08:53Cos you came back, you had the goss.
08:55I assume everybody was like,
08:57what do you know, what do you know?
08:59Obviously, like, it was slowly getting out there
09:01that Kylie is no longer on the block.
09:03Did you hear...?
09:05Yeah.
09:07Yeah.
09:08Did you hear what?
09:10Kylie had left. Yeah.
09:12It's a shock, because we've got one more week.
09:14Like, I'd love to just end this on a high,
09:17but there is a massive elephant in the room.
09:20I didn't know until last night.
09:22Scottie announced it at dinner.
09:23I thought he was joking at first.
09:25What do you mean? He said Kylie's what?
09:26Kylie's left.
09:27Oh.
09:28And that was, like, when we found out,
09:29and we're all, like, just sitting there in shock.
09:32Um...
09:34I did text Mimi last night, and I said,
09:36and I said, look, have you heard?
09:38And she's like, what the...
09:40Oh, so Mimi knew?
09:42Um...
09:43Yeah.
09:45Interesting.
09:47Well, I think she's involved.
09:49I have no idea.
09:59It's the final week of work on our block houses this week.
10:03Which also means it's the final week
10:06of worrying about block budgets.
10:08But at this point in the competition,
10:10it's no longer about balancing the books.
10:13It's all about finding enough money
10:15to present a decent front yard for the final week.
10:20Unless your name is Courtney or Grant,
10:22who just so happen to have an extra 30 grand in their pocket,
10:26thanks to a win and two tens worth 10 grand each just last week.
10:30Yeah, 30 grand, that's our biggest win.
10:33Yeah, we loved our backyard, but we didn't think...
10:36Oh, I didn't think you'd get the reaction that it got.
10:38So we go decking to here. Yep.
10:40And then we'll go a post... Something like that.
10:42We're trying to put a lot of our budget into an entrance feature
10:45and having, like, you know, a really great street presence.
10:50So we are going to get three or four arbors
10:53leading up to our front door,
10:55which will have the exact same angle
10:57as the slanted undercover area
10:59before you walk into the house.
11:00So basically just to continue that but make it a bit more of an aisle.
11:03So, yeah, we're just tossing up between
11:05if it's going to be three or four arbors.
11:08So that's three. Yeah.
11:10I think three.
11:13I mean, I don't know.
11:14What's the difference? Two grand.
11:16Yeah.
11:17But you think, you're talking 150 bucks a lily-pilly.
11:20Yeah. You get a lot of lily-pillies.
11:22It's nearly another 20 lily-pillies.
11:24Yeah. I think six or three.
11:26Having decided on three blue croc steel arbors
11:29to accompany their French travertine tile walkway,
11:32Courtney and Grant also plan to add in some lily-pilly trees,
11:36a stringy bark wooden deck and a custom-made timber door.
11:39Just because we've got 30 grand, we don't want to make it a circus.
11:42Like, we want to do it tastefully.
11:44Investing in the arbors and the custom timber door,
11:46I think, is the main thing, and obviously the main suite patio.
11:49Like, I think they would be our key areas.
11:52S2's main suite patio is positioned here,
11:55to the right of the main entrance.
11:57Ideally, Courtney and Grant would love
11:59to add additional blue croc arbors around their patio,
12:02but their total arbor outlay would skyrocket.
12:05You're talking nearly nine grand for them here.
12:08Nine grand. It's not worth it. Not worth it.
12:10We love the blue croc arbors that we've got at the front.
12:12There's no doubt that they come with a price.
12:14So we have to sort of think about how we can do them
12:17a little bit cheaper and still with a quality product.
12:20What we're thinking is, for this,
12:22we can do it with timber and paint them black.
12:24Yeah, and not too high.
12:26No, as high as the door.
12:28Yeah.
12:29So Courtney and Grant have decided
12:31to design and build their own cheaper wooden arbors
12:34to frame their curved French pattern
12:36travertine tile main bedroom patio.
12:39I love this idea. I think it'll look really nice.
12:41Yeah.
12:42We believe we're delivering a Ford Mustang winning garden.
12:46The reason being is your front yard's meant to be
12:49about a grand entrance, about street appeal,
12:52and, you know, you don't need to rewrite history to do that.
12:55So we feel like we'll tick all those boxes, definitely.
13:04Hi.
13:05How are you?
13:06Hi, Scotty.
13:07Good to see you.
13:08Good to see you.
13:09Hi.
13:10Good to see you.
13:11How are you travelling?
13:12Yeah, pretty average at the moment.
13:14Yeah.
13:15Well, look, I know you sort of are up to speed
13:19on what's going on because I've been on the Ford getaway
13:23and last night...
13:24We were worried about Kylie yesterday
13:26and then last night I find out that she's in Cairns.
13:30Yeah.
13:31You know that?
13:32Yeah, we heard it.
13:33She's in Cairns.
13:34And so I understand that it stemmed from something
13:37that happened on Saturday night.
13:40Yeah, so Saturday night,
13:42the three of us were all hanging out together,
13:45having a few drinks.
13:46You said some things about a little bit flirty,
13:50but I didn't feel that it was, so, you know...
13:56I mean, I'm here not to...
13:58I'm here to make sure you're all right.
14:00Yeah.
14:01I'm here to make sure that you're comfortable with what happened.
14:04Yeah, I'm honestly fine.
14:06I just, you know, I just want them to be OK.
14:08Yes, yes, we all do.
14:11But I want you to be OK.
14:12Yeah.
14:13That's why I came here first.
14:14Mm-hm.
14:15And now I'm going down to see Brad.
14:16Yeah, I'm honestly fine.
14:18OK.
14:20Thanks, Scotty.
14:21Thank you, Scotty.
14:22Ten days to go.
14:23Ten days.
14:24Only?
14:25Ten days to go.
14:26Good idea.
14:27Happy?
14:28Yes.
14:29OK, well done, guys.
14:30Thanks, Scotty.
14:31Bye.
14:33Ah.
14:38You guys were just talking.
14:40Yeah.
14:49That's fine.
14:52Ah, f***.
14:57I think they're OK.
15:02How big you want it?
15:08Mimi, can you tell me what happened on Saturday night?
15:11So, Saturday night, backyard week,
15:16I was at Kylie and Brad's house.
15:19We were just hanging out, drinking.
15:22And then we were just chatting,
15:24and then Kylie went to sleep on the deck next to us.
15:29And then I just stayed chatting,
15:32and, you know, maybe there were some comments that were made
15:36that came across as flirty.
15:38I personally felt, like, comfortable in the situation.
15:42All I know is that Kylie woke up and then she went into bed.
15:47And I think that was when it started, so that's when I left.
15:53It's unfortunate that, you know,
15:57Kylie overheard, which led her to, you know, leaving,
16:03which was not anyone's intention.
16:09Christian, how do you feel about all this?
16:12Um, I think...
16:14I don't think Mimi should have any regrets
16:16about going out and having a good time.
16:19It's, like, coming to that time where she's...
16:21We're going to have to say goodbye,
16:23so she wants to make the most with the beautiful people
16:26and friends that we've met.
16:28But in terms of the comment, I mean,
16:30if Mimi didn't feel uncomfortable about what was said,
16:34then I've got no reason to, do you know what I mean?
16:36I'm not that type of partner that's going to be overprotective
16:39and, like, you literally haven't done nothing wrong.
16:43You were just sitting there having a conversation.
16:45It's like you were flirting back.
16:57Oh, my gosh, that is outstanding.
16:59Oh! She likes it too!
17:01See how our all-stars Dan and Danni rate the Blockheads' rooms
17:04when they award their weekly champs and chomps.
17:07Who are your champs?
17:09Exclusively at the Block website.
17:17Bradley? Scotty?
17:20Um, mate, obviously I've been on the forward getaway.
17:23Yeah.
17:24And I found out last night
17:27that something had happened on Saturday night
17:31between you, Kylie and Mimi.
17:35Yeah.
17:36The problem I've got now is that Kylie's in Cairns.
17:39Yeah, it's...
17:41I don't know what to say, mate.
17:44Yeah, well, look, I can tell you, right, mate,
17:47that I've spoken to Kylie
17:49and she's coming back tomorrow.
17:52She's flying back.
17:55Is that good news?
17:56Yeah.
17:57Yeah. Good. Yeah.
17:59It is good news.
18:00She's still upset, but she is going to come back.
18:04And, um, and I think that you've got a role.
18:09I don't know.
18:10Be the best husband you can be.
18:12Yeah, definitely.
18:13Get it all back on track.
18:15Yeah, it's all I want.
18:16It'll be good to see her.
18:18Yeah.
18:19Thanks, mate.
18:20All right.
18:21See you, buddy.
18:22Kylie's coming back tomorrow?
18:25Yeah, that's a massive relief, really.
18:29Still...
18:32Yeah.
18:34Still a lot.
18:37Ivanhouse 3.
18:41Ivanhouse 3.
18:43The boys are out on the prowl for any cheap extra goods
18:47they can get their hands on.
18:49And by cheap, I mean free.
18:52Using recycled hoses?
18:55Yeah, apparently this is a free-for-all.
18:58In Brad's driveway.
19:00He's having a free yard sale.
19:02It's a recycling facility.
19:04Yes, it's all about sustainability,
19:06so they're making sure that this hose gets another life.
19:10If you've got any leftover concrete, lads,
19:13we know where to put it.
19:15Yeah, that's fine.
19:16I don't know how we'll go.
19:17We've got a few more holes.
19:18Oh, you've got a few left?
19:19Yeah.
19:20But if we do, yeah, that's fine.
19:21Yeah, if you do, just send it down to House 3.
19:23Whose concrete is it?
19:24It's House 1's concrete.
19:27House 1's concrete, but it's leftover,
19:29so it's going to get binned or it can go in our vehicle.
19:32It's about sustainability here on the block,
19:34and we don't want to see anything wasted.
19:36Do we, Duncan?
19:37No.
19:38No.
19:39No, it's about things for free.
19:41No, sustainability.
19:43Sustainability, yeah.
19:44Free concrete, who doesn't love that?
19:46100%.
19:47We're just going to empty it into there so he can get going.
19:51It's all about sustainability, apparently.
19:54I don't know what that word...
19:56Yes, yes.
19:57That word seems to work around here,
19:59so I'm going to keep using it.
20:02Well done, Jake.
20:03And Duncan isn't the only one embracing sustainability
20:06at the block this year,
20:08because for our 20th season, we've partnered with ComBank
20:11to help build a brighter and more sustainable block for all.
20:15And as Shell and I have been discussing with the blockheads
20:18throughout the series...
20:19ComBank are helping us in our quest for sustainability
20:22with $100,000.
20:25So far, we've already spent 60 of the 100 grand on...
20:29Solar panels?
20:30On all the roofs.
20:31Yeah, it's all about that building a brighter future, right,
20:34for 2024.
20:35You've got your induction cooktops from E&S downstairs,
20:38highly energy efficient.
20:39They are.
20:40We're doing water filtration into the whole house.
20:42So there's a lot of little things happening around the place.
20:44Yeah.
20:45And in another sustainable initiative,
20:47Kingspan are on site to install the last of the many water tanks
20:51that now populate the block.
20:53And they're game,
20:54because they're letting 4Dan tell us about their product.
20:57Happy to have a go, mate?
20:58We can do it a couple of times.
20:59We're going to need a few.
21:00So this year on the block,
21:01we have the Urban Water Tanks from Kingspan.
21:04Now, they worked...
21:05So this year on the tank,
21:06we have the Urban Water Tank from Kingspan.
21:11So this year on the block,
21:12we're installing the Urban Water Tanks from Kingspan.
21:14It acts as an on-site water detention system,
21:17which is amazing.
21:18It's a two-part tank.
21:19Now, the top part, when we have a heavy rainfall,
21:22it brings all the water from the roof,
21:23stores it on there so it doesn't go down the storm water drain
21:26and causes flooding.
21:27It'll slowly release it.
21:29Then from halfway down,
21:30it acts as our recycling water
21:32that we use for our toilets and our gardens.
21:39Kingspan are amazing.
21:40They're Australian-made.
21:41They've been around since 1934.
21:43They'll have four types of tanks to fit all sizes and yards.
21:46Get one of these, help the environment,
21:48don't clog all the storm water systems,
21:50and water your garden for free.
21:53Every little thing you do,
21:56it all goes a long, long way.
21:58One bit of rubbish,
22:00couple of holes of concrete.
22:03We all got to do our bit for the planet.
22:05Hey, where does wasted concrete go?
22:07Do they just stick it in landfill?
22:09Yeah.
22:10No, they turn it back up and turn it into new concrete.
22:14So it doesn't get wasted?
22:15No.
22:16But think about the fossil fuels
22:18that that truck's going to waste getting back to the depot.
22:21Otherwise, don't.
22:22It's a waste of fuel.
22:23The carbon footprint.
22:25You know, it's a win-win.
22:27Can you get one more?
22:31Coming up...
22:32Budget woes leave House 5's garage build in limbo.
22:35I'm just stressed,
22:36cos I wasn't expecting to refit the whole garage.
22:39We can't afford to have our chippies here.
22:41It just keeps piling up and piling up and piling up.
22:44Ricky and Hayden's week hits rock bottom.
22:47Oh, f***, you guys actually did this.
22:49LAUGHTER
22:51It's definitely not what we envisioned.
22:54And Brad faces the music as Kylie returns to the block.
23:10Welcome back to the block, Phillip Island,
23:12and our second consecutive week
23:14of the hustle and bustle of working outdoors.
23:17Here it goes, here it goes.
23:18Truckloads of deliveries.
23:20Thank you very much.
23:22Noisy earth-moving equipment
23:24and an army of landscapers to deal with,
23:26front yard week is certainly no walk in the park.
23:31Just to top things off,
23:33our blockheads are also planning
23:35for next week's Disney Plus Clubhouse reveals.
23:38And there's a game-changing prize on offer
23:41with a massive $50,000
23:43to come off one lucky team's reserve price come auction day.
23:47Ricky and Hayden have chosen to do the Alfresco area
23:50of said clubhouse, which is basically one big veranda.
23:54And the boys from House 3 couldn't be happier with their space.
23:58Yeah, really excited for our Disney Plus Clubhouse.
24:01We're starting to ramp it up a little bit.
24:04We had some concrete poured for the big plinth,
24:07the big hearth that goes underneath the fireplace today.
24:10And this is no ordinary run-of-the-mill fireplace
24:13because it also doubles up as a pizza oven and grill,
24:16stacked with firewood either side
24:18and brickwork all the way up to the roof.
24:21This fireplace is going to be an Alfresco showstopper.
24:25It's good to start seeing it take some shape.
24:28With the slab now poured, this job is far from finished
24:32because the boys have decided
24:34to have a crack at burnishing their concrete
24:37to try and achieve a high-end knockout finish.
24:42We want to put the right effort in
24:44and we want to make sure we're doing everything we can
24:47to be in the best position to win that 50K.
24:51Up with zero-experience burnishing concrete.
24:54Who better to ask for advice
24:56than our resident concrete aficionado, Phil the Concreter.
25:00So you keep trailing it while it's drying?
25:02Yeah, yeah. Keep doing it in stages.
25:04You might have to do it every half an hour or something.
25:06OK. Yeah, until it gets really hard.
25:08Right. It's pretty cold out here on Phillip Island,
25:11so unfortunately the concrete takes a bit to cure.
25:13So if I'm going to burnish it, I'm going to be doing it all night.
25:16Keep trailing it as best you can, filling all your little holes.
25:19Yep.
25:20And eventually it gets to a point where it's that hard,
25:22where it's nearly doing nothing,
25:24maybe add a little bit of water, keep trailing it,
25:26gives it that sort of burnished look, you know what I mean?
25:28OK.
25:29For me, it's not about time or how long something takes,
25:31it's about getting the best finish,
25:32especially when it comes to that clubhouse.
25:34So if I've got to go till sunrise, I'll go till sunrise.
25:37Rick's going to take the night shift.
25:39I'll make sure I'm there in the morning, um, holding the fort.
25:44Thanks, mate. Appreciate that.
25:46Appreciate the support.
25:48Sounds like I'll be here solo.
25:52Confirmed.
25:53Confirmed.
25:58The trick's going to be getting it across the whole thing.
26:13It's probably been going at it for probably about an hour.
26:19Oh, mate, you all right?
26:22Concrete's a hard job.
26:33I know the more work I put into it, the better the result will be.
26:36So I don't really care how long it takes, man.
26:40If it takes all night, if it takes all sunrise.
26:52It's a new day here on the block,
26:54but it's the same old pre-start ritual.
26:57Maddie and Charlotte have both turned up,
26:59but it's not to see GMAC.
27:01Instead, they're awaiting the arrival of someone pretty special.
27:06Hello.
27:11Hello.
27:12Fantastic.
27:13Our dad has come to visit.
27:15He just got back from Europe
27:17and, um, decided he was going to drive down and see us.
27:22I have to get a new shirt.
27:24I know, you're looking very fresh with your new shoes.
27:26And we were like, you know what?
27:28If you're coming all this way, we may as well put you to work.
27:30Look at that. Part of the team.
27:32Yeah.
27:34Probably not the best look, to be honest, but it's okay.
27:37He went and got his white card on Monday.
27:39So that he could come on site.
27:41And then drove down on Tuesday and was here on Wednesday.
27:47Welcome to the block.
27:48This is what happens, eh?
27:54Yeah, he's straight to work.
27:55No time to waste.
27:56And his first job is jackhammering up the tiles in the garage.
28:00The fun job.
28:04Well, pick up your feet.
28:06Come a bit like me.
28:08I'm gonna see you make it on time.
28:11He's such a hard worker.
28:12I think that's, like, both our parents are really hard workers.
28:15And so we've grown up watching them work so hard.
28:17And so that's probably where we get a lot of, like, our drive from.
28:21Um, and so he wouldn't have it any other way.
28:24There's, like, he's like, what can I do?
28:26How can I help?
28:28Although he's getting a bit old.
28:30So we'll see how long he actually lasts.
28:33There you go.
28:34Group hug.
28:35It is good.
28:37Reunited.
28:38Yeah.
28:39I must admit, it's the best time I've, first time being overseas.
28:43That I really look forward to coming back and seeing the girls.
28:47Oh, you don't miss me all the time?
28:48Normally, normally not.
28:50I miss you.
28:51I miss you.
28:52I miss you.
28:53I miss you.
28:54I miss you.
28:56Normally, normally you don't miss them that much.
28:58Is that an insult or a compliment?
29:00I'm not sure.
29:01Well, there's certainly no doubt that Graeme is about as honest as the day is long.
29:06Speaking of long days.
29:08So I finished burnishing the concrete plinth for our fireplace this morning at about half past two.
29:15Boys, how'd you go with the concrete?
29:17Give me the charge, mate.
29:18All right.
29:19I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out because I'd never done it before.
29:22And everyone was really happy with how it turned out.
29:26See the reflection?
29:27Yeah, you can see the light bouncing off it.
29:29Mate, it's like a mirror.
29:30Look at that.
29:31Great job, mate.
29:32For an amateur, to do something of this level is impressive.
29:38And with burnished concrete this good, word travels fast.
29:42Once the fire's going on, it's just going to heat up, be nice and warm to sit on.
29:46Oh, yeah.
29:47It's a nice colour too, isn't it?
29:48Looks good, though.
29:49That's impressive.
29:50Yeah, thanks, mate.
29:51Maybe you should be a concreter.
29:53Might have to be.
29:56S***.
29:57Are you serious?
30:02Unfortunately, I left the slab unattended.
30:04And now there's probably 500, 600 kilos in plaster and products stored on top of it.
30:10That's brutal, mate.
30:11I worked so hard on that all night to come back and find all that on it.
30:16That's devastating.
30:17Last night, working till 3 o'clock in the morning, could be all for nothing.
30:28Are you worried about Simone Barley?
30:30Yeah, definitely.
30:36I've upset her and I know she wants more space and we're just coming back to her, so.
30:45What's your plan?
30:48I don't know. I don't have a plan.
30:56Just keep doing, I guess, until she's here and try and give her as much space as she wants.
31:05How are you travelling her on?
31:07Getting better.
31:08Yeah?
31:09She's coming back.
31:10OK, cool.
31:11Do you need anything you'd say to her?
31:12Yeah, sweet.
31:13Oh, awesome.
31:15You see a friend that's down, you see someone that's going through something rough,
31:19you don't want to give them any help or anything.
31:21Well, you can.
31:22So, yeah, Brad's going to stay with us and we'll give him whatever he wants,
31:26whether it's a spare bed, fireplace, or couch next to the fireplace, whatever he wants.
31:31Open house for Brad.
31:45Do you think you guys can get through this, Brad?
31:51I have no idea.
31:54I hope so.
31:56But it's also unfair for me to hope so.
32:15Yeah!
32:25Front yard week has so far proven to be a whole lot tougher than expected.
32:31Not only do our blockheads have decks to build, walkways to lay, forests of green to plant,
32:36but they've also had the additional task of revealing their garages this week.
32:41And for Christian in house five, that means a whole lot of unforeseen extra work.
32:47I'm just stressed because I wasn't expecting to re-sheet the whole garage.
32:51And then that just was a curveball that got thrown to me on Monday.
32:55I need to batten and plaster those walls.
32:57I thought I could just patch the few little holes and keep it as it was.
33:00No, we're going to have to pull the whole thing out.
33:02Christian was hoping to leave the garage's original plaster in place,
33:05but as it's been damaged during the renovation, it needs to all come out.
33:10Then the walls need to be battened, insulated, sheeted and support nogs installed for the roller door.
33:17We can't afford to have our chippies here to sort of help out.
33:20And there's nogs that need to be installed.
33:22So it just keeps piling up and piling up and piling up.
33:26How's your budget looking?
33:27It is not looking very nice.
33:31It's all my fault.
33:32It's not your fault at all.
33:34I trusted everything, everything that you brought.
33:36You also trusted me when I said our budget's looking fine, even though I never checked.
33:43Yeah.
33:44You know, every time we had an interview, how's your budget?
33:47We're doing great.
33:49So good.
33:50We're under, under budget, but I never checked.
33:55So the budget is looking really good.
33:58I'm budget queen.
34:00How's your budget looking then?
34:01Our budget's looking great.
34:03The budget is looking good.
34:05Overall, our budget is looking really good.
34:07Our main goal is to, you know, keep winning, keep getting $10,000.
34:13Because front and backyard are going to be expensive.
34:17The thing that's too stressful would be traffic.
34:23Do you know what I mean?
34:24Because then you see how much you spend.
34:27One person who might not find this a laughing matter is House 5's landscaper, Troy Lovett,
34:32who is working with a razor-thin budget.
34:40To complement their existing giant palm tree,
34:42Christian and Mimi are adding in some new turf, several wooden posts,
34:46a pale stone gravel driveway for boat parking,
34:49some garden beds, along with some large feature rocks.
34:53So today I've got to get the slab done for the garden shed.
34:58So I do that, create some garden beds,
35:00I want to get a couple of the poles put in the ground today,
35:02and then I've got to confirm the grass,
35:04so there's still a lot of work that needs to be done.
35:07Yep, a whole lot of work, but not a whole lot of money to do it with.
35:12This is a concept that the boys down the back in House 3 are very familiar with.
35:18Budget's tight.
35:21I'm talking dollars and cents,
35:23especially with some plans that we've got this week.
35:25Awesome, mate.
35:26Good on ya, pal.
35:27Can't wait, brother.
35:28Thanks, mate.
35:29See ya, bud.
35:30Who's that?
35:31It's Brendan from Food Cube.
35:34So we've got eight self-contained, sustainable living gardens
35:42being installed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
35:45You've got a bunch of sustainable features in this house, haven't you?
35:48Talk us through all of those.
35:49Well, even just the way that we've designed our landscape is very sustainable.
35:52So we're using a lot of recycled timbers and rocks and stones and things like that.
35:58For us, that natural Australian landscape is going to be just deck, grass and a heap of fun.
36:07Positioned at the rear of the block, House 3's yard this week
36:10wraps around the left-hand side of their house.
36:14Out the back, Ricky and Hayden are leaning into their sustainability mantra
36:18with plans for a large recycled timber deck,
36:21self-sustaining food cubes featuring veggie gardens to supply fresh herbs and vegetables
36:27and at ground level, there's not a paver in sight.
36:30You don't remember those good times you had on some pavers out the back.
36:33It's like, how good was that, you know, those summer memories kicking back on the deck
36:37or, you know, kicking the footy or playing cricket on the grass.
36:41So sustainability-wise, fun-wise, that was always going to be our sort of goal.
36:47It just so happened that that sort of helped our budget a little bit as well.
36:56I'm going to see if there's any concrete deliveries today.
36:59I mean, we only need three barrows, so...
37:07Zoe, I noticed you've got concrete coming at three.
37:10I think I've only got one concrete coming at the moment.
37:13Have you got concrete coming?
37:14No.
37:15No?
37:17No, it's all good.
37:18Oh.
37:19I'm just...just checking.
37:22See what's going to block the driveway.
37:24Oh, gotcha. OK.
37:26We gotcha.
37:27Wow, she can leave that. That's good.
37:29Actually, Dunk, it's a 2pm concrete delivery locked in.
37:33Tick.
37:34Next mission, find Phil the concreter.
37:38Hey, Phil.
37:39OK, Benny.
37:40Are you concreting today?
37:42Yeah.
37:43You reckon you'll have four barrows left over?
37:45Got one truck coming.
37:46Lovert's got a few up here as well, he's taken off me.
37:49OK.
37:50If there's any left, yeah.
37:51Oh, if there's any left?
37:52Yeah.
37:53We don't want to send it back empty.
37:54No, no.
37:55I've only...
37:56If there's any left?
37:57I've only got two pee holes.
37:58Done.
37:59Thanks, Phil.
38:00Potential free concrete, a definite possibility.
38:02Phil, what do you think of House 3?
38:04Oh, it's the leftover concrete house.
38:06Every day they come and ask, I need this, I need that.
38:09Just leftovers.
38:10Very environmentally friendly.
38:12Yep, that's right, Phil.
38:14Very environmentally friendly and also...
38:17Free, free, free.
38:18Recycling wood.
38:19Absolutely.
38:20We're recycling everywhere.
38:22This is great.
38:23This costs a fortune.
38:24Where did you get that from?
38:25Spence has it left over from the magnificent Alfresco area.
38:31He's got about six of these left over.
38:33I don't even know where I'm going to use it yet,
38:35but I'll take it down.
38:38That's what it's all about.
38:39Comes to the end of this game, you've got to save dollars
38:42and you've got to use it before someone else does.
38:44Which is a very sustainable concept,
38:47unless someone is still using said goods.
38:54Duncan said you were done with them.
39:03Right, yeah, I'm just following orders.
39:06Result, free timber, fail.
39:09I'm happy for you to use them,
39:12No.
39:13Cool.
39:14Let me know when you need them back.
39:17I'm struggling to get over that.
39:28Over in house five, Christian is still cleaning out the garage.
39:32When is this ever going to f***ing end?
39:34Seriously.
39:36And to add to Christian's misery,
39:38Foreman Dan now needs the driveway clear as well.
39:41This is going to be down in about an hour.
39:43Yep.
39:44So we're going to get Kieran from DIY Blinds,
39:46we're going to get him working off a scissor or a boom lift.
39:49Yep.
39:50We just need out here cleaned.
39:51Yep.
39:52It's just got to be out of the way so we get these blinds in.
39:56So now that the scaffold is coming down slowly,
39:59DIY Blinds are coming in
40:02and they will be installing the drop-down blinds on the balcony.
40:06So the way we envisioned it was,
40:08if we had the drop-down blinds,
40:10it could almost be like you open up the double doors
40:13and you've got an inside and then an outside area
40:15that sort of becomes one.
40:17But DIY Blinds, they need the driveway cleared out
40:20so that they can get the scissor lift in there.
40:22I'm trying to clean up.
40:24All good. Thanks, mate.
40:25Thanks, f***.
40:26F***ing over.
40:29I'm just feeling overwhelmed.
40:31Yeah.
40:32There was a lot happening in my head.
40:39Are you supposed to be helping Christian?
40:41Anton!
40:43Hello?
40:44Hey, boobs. How are you doing?
40:46I'm planning.
40:48Oh, nice. Whereabouts are you?
40:50I'm...upstairs.
40:53Oh, beautiful.
40:54All right. No, no worries. Keep doing what you're doing.
40:56OK. I'll text you later. Love you, babe.
41:01Mimi!
41:03It just kept coming out!
41:05Christian is such a patient man.
41:08That's what my parents said.
41:10If it's not Christian, you'll be on your own forever.
41:14I think I agree with your parents.
41:16Should we make Christian noodles? Are you going to take it back to him?
41:19Nah, he's busy.
41:21I haven't smiled for about two weeks.
41:23I f***ing hate this place.
41:33To see more of The Block, head online for loads of exclusive extras.
41:37And why not get social with fellow Blockaholics
41:40by giving At The Block a follow
41:42and going behind the scenes with our teams.
41:53When it comes to landscaping on The Block,
41:55you need to be able to work fast.
41:57So it's paramount to have an experienced operator in charge.
42:02Unfortunately, Rikki and Hayden lost not one,
42:04but two experienced landscapers
42:06in the lead-up to our front and backyard weeks.
42:09So the boys were obliged to form their own start-up company...
42:17But as the saying goes, every good team needs a good captain.
42:21So this week, the boys have brought in
42:23an experienced horticulturalist to captain their team
42:26in the hope of taking out one last big room win.
42:30Katie has like a...
42:31Not only is she good at what she's doing,
42:33but then she's good at governing everyone else and just leading.
42:37She can answer everyone's questions at the same time
42:39and be still doing what she's doing.
42:41She's an absolute weapon.
42:43Our own aged landscaping would be nothing without Katie.
42:45Which is a scenario that might just be put to the test.
42:49So you got paid... Did you get paid last week?
42:51No, not yet.
42:52Not yet?
42:53Nah, because I just had to...
42:54My ABN number got frozen, so my accountant unfroze that.
42:57So Jenny, I've just sent her the ATO tax and everything this morning.
43:01We're going to have to get it sorted out,
43:03because apparently you're not an employee of Pound Out.
43:06Katie had some issues with her insurance
43:09because I think she came on working for Dunk,
43:11but then switched over to work as a sole trader for herself
43:14and then didn't have the proper insurances in check.
43:17We'll have to sort it out,
43:18but we can't have you working right now.
43:20Absolutely. Yeah.
43:21Thanks for that.
43:22So just had to send Katie from House 3 away.
43:24She hasn't been signed in correctly.
43:26Her papers aren't up to date or all of her insurances,
43:29so it's not the end of the world.
43:31Everyone's got direction in House 3 on what to do.
43:33She can go away for half a day, get all this sorted
43:35and come back tomorrow morning ready to rock and roll.
43:38The whole team fell apart when she wasn't there.
43:40Yeah.
43:41From a landscaping point of view, we were all scrambling.
43:43Yeah, it was bad.
43:44We ordered four cubes of river rocks
43:46and basically screwed the whole backyard.
43:49I didn't want it done there.
43:51Who wants to shovel this?
43:52It wasn't going there.
43:56OK, paper, scissors, rock to see who shovels it.
44:00This looks like a hand job.
44:02A what?
44:06So where are we putting this?
44:08Come on, talk us through it.
44:09Yeah, we got...
44:10So in the morning, there's a bit of confusion.
44:12We ordered two cubes of 20mm river rocks
44:15and two cubes of mixed river rocks.
44:18And...
44:19What's the difference for a start?
44:21Mixed river rocks can be anywhere from, like, 100mm
44:24down to, like, 10mm.
44:28The ones that we ordered were 20mm and the mixed.
44:32So we ended up with a real mix
44:36of all the 20mm and the mixed.
44:39So...
44:41The original plan was to use the larger river rocks
44:44as a feature between the garden and the pathway, along here,
44:48with the smaller 20mm rocks used along the thoroughfare, along here.
44:52But not only were the rocks delivered incorrectly in one big mix,
44:56they were also dumped in the wrong place.
44:59So now the House 3 team need to move this pile of rocks
45:03to the other side of the house.
45:06If you don't like shoveling dirt, try shoveling big rocks.
45:09That is not a good time.
45:11No.
45:20Seriously?
45:22Don't worry, I've got it, fellas.
45:25How long did that take you?
45:27It took each dunk and two labourers probably a couple of hours.
45:37Come to the block. Do some carpentry, they said.
45:44It's got to be done.
45:45Luckily, it's only Wednesday. We've got plenty of time.
45:53Then once it was all out the back,
45:55we stood back and looked at it and went,
45:57oh, God, what have we just done?
46:01Yeah, I honestly...
46:03You know, in all my days of landscaping,
46:05I haven't seen anything like this before.
46:07No.
46:13What have we just done?
46:15We even got Miles in from Franklin's landscaping team.
46:20And he literally walked in and said...
46:22Oh, my God.
46:23Yeah.
46:24Oh, mate.
46:29You guys actually did this?
46:35Oh, this is gold.
46:37Yeah, I think...
46:40It's definitely not what we envisioned, that's for sure.
46:45You can maybe get toppings on top of it.
46:47So I'm thinking, what do you reckon?
46:48Lillydale topping, compact it down.
46:50Lillydale topping straight over.
46:51Get something on top of it.
46:52Just whack it down.
46:53Or get it level.
46:54That way you're using less toppings.
46:56How do I get it level?
46:57Well, get a rake and...
46:59Rake it, yeah.
47:00So House 3's contingency plan for their garden path
47:04is to now remove all the large rocks to form a level base
47:08and then cover said path with a topping made up of very small rocks.
47:12But unfortunately, these river rocks are unrakeable.
47:16So now the House 3 crew have to shift all of the larger rocks
47:20from their garden path by hand.
47:24Tell you what, this is the gift that keeps on giving, isn't it?
47:33Brad, what are you after?
47:35Caramel latte and a cup with one.
47:38And I'll go decaf, whatever.
47:41OK.
47:42You're after coffee?
47:43Yeah.
47:44Yeah.
47:45Yeah, what's going on there?
47:47Anxiety.
47:48Oh, really? Yeah, fair.
47:49It does make it worse.
47:54Why do you love Kylie, mate?
47:59I love Kylie because she, despite what some people may think,
48:03is the nicest, most giving person there is.
48:10She's so driven.
48:14We came on the block cos it was always...
48:17It was always Kylie's dream to do it.
48:20She tried every year.
48:23And we just wanted to...
48:27I don't know, have an opportunity to set ourselves up for the family.
48:34The family I hope I still have.
48:45MUSIC FADES
49:01Can I have a break?
49:15SNIFFS
49:20MUSIC FADES
49:45MUSIC FADES
50:10If you hand me it, I'm going to throw it at you.
50:13Do you understand what I heard?
50:16I feel like something happened.
50:19You've just completely annihilated our entire relationship.
50:26Tomorrow night, as the clock counts down, big things arrive.
50:31We've got just all our new plants.
50:33How many?
50:34At least 20.
50:35What?
50:36Try 150.
50:38That is enormous.
50:41Oh, that's massive.
50:42Feels like 100 trays at least.
50:45And with the end in sight, what can go wrong, does go wrong.
50:51All I hear is crunch.
50:52So I've gone through both ends of the stormwater pipe.
50:55Oh, I can't do this today. I actually can't do this today.
50:58Um, some slight complications trying to get the tree in the hole.
51:03Uh, no.
51:06I was worried about that.
51:07It was a nightmare.
51:09Big chunk.
51:10Why wouldn't we set up on the way I said it would be?
51:12Yeah.
