Water donation for those who are in the area of Baguio-Christine and we will talk to Ma'am Bess Parr,
00:06
Senior Program Manager of Manila Water Foundation.
00:09
Good afternoon, Ma'am Bess, and welcome to Bagong Pilipinas.
00:12
Good afternoon to all of you.
00:16
Ma'am, from Manila Water, how many gallons of container did you commit
00:21
for the affected areas here in Baguio-Christine and has the distribution started?
00:27
Yes, actually, we have been mobilizing since Wednesday.
00:32
At the moment, we are deploying more than 4,000 5-gallon bottles.
00:39
Aside from that, we are also deploying three 10-cubic tankers
00:45
and one motorized boat that is currently in the camp shore.
00:50
So at the moment, we are getting a lot of requests because we know
00:53
that when it comes to these kinds of cases,
00:56
water and drinking water is really what is most needed.
01:01
What we are giving is 5 gallons, so this is about 20 liters,
01:05
and it can provide drinking water to a family,
01:09
maybe a small family of five, for three days.
01:12
So as much as possible, these are big containers that we are delivering.
01:17
We have the Philippine Coast Guard, PDRF, Air Force, and BSWD,
01:23
and other private organizations such as the League of Corporate Foundations.
01:28
So we are working with both government agencies, local governments, and private sector.
01:33
It's good to see that we are really working together,
01:36
and it's a big thing that we are all working together
01:40
because we are the ones providing water, but what we really need is a truck.
01:46
Even last night, we really needed 10-wheeler trucks
01:50
because the water is really heavy,
01:52
and it really needs to be delivered to the areas that are affected,
01:57
especially the areas that are really flooded until now.
02:01
So at the moment, our friends at the PCG Auxiliary are also picking up,
02:07
so thank you to the Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary,
02:11
together with Dr. Butch Ong.
02:14
All of the other private sector working with us,
02:16
especially the Committee on Disaster Resilience of the League of Corporate Foundations.
02:21
So they are all working together.
02:23
They provide information, we share the information,
02:26
and then we combine all of these resources
02:28
so that we can deliver everything that is needed.
02:31
At the moment, we have a pending 2,000 5-gallon water bottles going to Batangas,
02:37
and we've already given them also initially in the past days.
02:42
So, since last Wednesday, we've been continuously providing assistance.
02:47
As long as there is a request, and we can do it,
02:50
and there is transportation,
02:52
we will continue to provide assistance.
02:55
So thank you to those who are helping us at the Manila Water Foundation.
03:01
Thank you very much.
03:03
As we say, water is life.
03:06
Even if there is no food, as long as there is water,
03:11
that is the first thing that will sustain us.
03:14
Yesterday, we were talking about the medicines supplied by the DOH.
03:18
I asked if there is water, because if the medicine is drinkable,
03:21
it needs clean water.
03:22
Even if it's noodles and rice, it really needs water.
03:27
So it is very important that this water can reach our fellow countrymen.
03:36
You mentioned earlier that there are 2,000 gallons to be delivered to Batangas.
03:42
I'm sure our fellow countrymen in Batangas are waiting.
03:46
When will this water reach them?
03:49
Right now, actually, we have already given initials for the past days.
03:53
So far, in my count, I think we have more than 600 bottles
03:56
that we have already delivered to Agoncillo and Laurel.
04:00
At the moment, we are waiting for the trucks to actually leave our plant.
04:05
So starting tonight, we should be able to deliver the initials.
04:11
And then, our deadline is for it to reach Batangas by tomorrow.
04:16
So we are working with the SWD under Yusef Kaliphe
04:20
to get all of these done.
04:23
It's really extraordinary.
04:25
Logistics is really complex.
04:28
If we just carry this, we need to coordinate and even the drop-off point.
04:33
So we are really monitoring this
04:35
because we want it to reach areas that really need water.
04:40
So what does the acronym WASH Program of Manila Water mean?
04:45
And how much of a help is this when it comes to emergency situations and accidents?
04:49
Yes, at the Manila Water Foundation, we have 2 advocacies.
04:54
One is WASH, Water Access Sanitation and Hygiene and Environment.
04:58
But in WASH, that's the program that I hold.
05:00
So this is Water Access Sanitation and Hygiene.
05:04
When it comes to emergencies, water is really needed.
05:09
Especially the proper sanitation and clean drinking water
05:13
when it comes to these kinds of accidents.
05:17
As you said, water is life.
05:20
So in WASH for emergencies, we have a program.
05:23
We call this AGAPAY.
05:25
This is an aid that we provide by distributing clean water and sanitation.
05:33
Anything to do with hygiene also.
05:35
So we also have hygiene products already mobilized.
05:38
So hopefully, we can distribute these hygiene products.
05:42
What are the hygiene products?
05:44
These are soap products.
05:45
So we also have a partnership with PNG for Procter & Gamble.
05:49
Actually, this is the start of the call for help.
05:54
A lot of people are connected to us and they want to distribute these goods.
06:01
We know that we can distribute and deploy water and hygiene products
06:07
to those in need.
06:08
So WASH is really our aid that we provide.
06:13
We are the only ones who know that this type of support is very specific.
06:19
Because the others are food and other support.
06:22
I guess that's why we were called by the DSWD and the Philippine Coast Guard
06:28
and the other government agencies.
06:31
Because they know that we have the assets to provide this type of aid.
06:36
Ma'am, thank you very much for your time.
06:39
Ma'am Bespar, Senior Program Manager of Manila Water Foundation.
06:43
Thank you very much to Manila Water for your help and support.
06:46
Thank you so much.
