00:00The Cedric Maxwell podcast is brought to you by Price Picks and the Game Time app.
00:16All right.
00:17We're back with another episode of the Cedric Maxwell podcast.
00:19I'm Josue Pavone alongside Cedric Maxwell.
00:22We got to talk about this first week for the Boston Celtics, man.
00:25They went 2-0, but the ring ceremony at TV Garden where they raised the 18th banner on
00:31opening night.
00:32You got to give me all the details, Max.
00:33Of course, we'll talk about that and we'll get your point of view of it.
00:37And also what happened in that game.
00:39It tied the NBA record for the most three-pointers in a single game, 29 threes.
00:44Is this going to be sort of an ongoing talking point throughout the course of the regular
00:49season?
00:50We'll get into that as well.
00:51And finally, just the who's who's of people who pulled up to the Celtics ring ceremony,
00:58including Bob Cousy.
01:00So you know what?
01:01Let's start right there, Max, because you, of course, were part of that ceremony representing
01:05just the 80s Celtics.
01:09It's hard to believe that it's only been one other banner.
01:14Before Monday night, there was the 2008 championship and then before that, it's the 80s, right?
01:20And of course, you being the representative of that decade.
01:24But how special was it to see Bob Cousy back in the building, man?
01:30I thought that that was the best part of the whole thing, if you ask me.
01:32Cousy was cool.
01:33It was really cool seeing that.
01:34It was just really kind of weird.
01:36It went out on the floor like that with the peace sign like Dick Nixon.
01:39I was like, damn, Cousy, you're going like that?
01:43And he was in a wheelchair, but so cognizant.
01:47You think the body probably is failing him a little bit, but mentally, it was just as
01:51sharp as it could be.
01:53Talked to me for a minute, then Paul came in and Ray came in and Kevin was there.
01:58So you had these dignitaries and a bunch of Celtic players were there and it was just
02:04a real cool thing.
02:05And they introduced us all before the game and we walked out on the floor and then we
02:10took a picture with the Tatum and Brown and Horford.
02:15Those three were kind of representing the team.
02:17So it was just a really cool moment.
02:19It was surreal.
02:21And to be in the middle of it, it was somebody asked me yesterday, Abby Chin asked me the
02:26other day, Max, how was that?
02:28I said, you know, I didn't even think about it until it was after it was over of just
02:34walking out on the floor with a packed house.
02:38People wanted to sign autographs and wanting their moment.
02:45And then to see Tatum receive it and Brown and Horford, those guys represent.
02:50And then to actually get the rings, man, that was a cool moment.
02:53Those rings were like just the way they were.
02:56They were like this.
02:57I mean, they go on your finger like this, this is how big they were.
03:03It was just a crazy night of first and then to play the Knicks.
03:08It was again, who's supposed to be your top opponent and they slayed the Knicks.
03:15They played so well.
03:16Yeah, Knicks weren't ready for that, man.
03:19They weren't ready for all that.
03:20I mean, look, even going into this game, there were obviously going to be people saying,
03:24oh, the ceremony and the emotions could really disrupt this team and you never know what
03:27could happen.
03:28And no, not these guys, Max, not these guys.
03:31It was like they were motivated from that.
03:33You had Bob Cousy there who led the Southerners to their very first championship.
03:38It was almost as if like, okay, we were solidified, one, obviously because the championship is
03:42up there to let the world know.
03:44But two, if you guys think this thing was a fluke last year, you're about to find out
03:48right now.
03:49And they wasted no time demolishing the New York Knicks.
03:53The curtain was up.
03:54The curtain was pulled up and the actors and the actresses and everybody was there.
04:01The people in the front row, I think just to get in the building, the lower bowl was
04:08maybe 1,500 to $2,000 seats were in the building.
04:13And so it was just so much excitement.
04:16And then to actually to have the ring ceremony, but then to pull the banner up.
04:23And then at the end, when they were talking to Tatum, Tatum comes through at the end,
04:27he says a few things.
04:29And it's like his teammates will go in the morning.
04:32And then his last statement was, let's do it again.
04:35Yes.
04:36Damn.
04:37Okay.
04:38And everybody got pumped up that much more.
04:42And the odd thing about it was you go through all that and then you have to play the game.
04:48And the Southerners played as well as could be to win.
04:53And then win convincingly.
04:55The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact they had 29 threes.
05:00Now I want to get into that.
05:03They missed the last 13 attempts trying to get the 30.
05:07And I was one of the few people in there hoping they didn't do it.
05:11Because I don't mind the fact that if they're going to do it, just generically, every time
05:19Sean would be, and there's a three in for the, and then Peyton, and it was just like,
05:27and these people had, they were driven by social media because they knew.
05:32And every time the guys lined up, they were just going crazy.
05:36So when the final, every time they missed, I was like, yes, yes, yes.
05:41And then at the end, but if it happened generically, I would have been cool.
05:46For the season opener, right?
05:48We always do this every single year.
05:49We do our bold predictions, right?
05:51And there's always a few of them that you throw in there.
05:53Some of them are bold, some of them not so much.
05:55And for me, the ones that I posted that wasn't so bold, I predicted the Southerners would
05:59not only shatter the record for most threes attempted, which I think the Southerners could
06:05get over a 70 in this one.
06:08But I didn't even think about them being the record to, I mean, for them tying the record
06:13or topping the record for most threes made in a game, not because I think that they can't
06:18do it, but I just think it's way more, it's going to be a lot more criticism when they
06:24have one of those games where they're not falling.
06:25You get what I'm saying?
06:26Because when you have this formula and when you're playing a team that, let's say, I don't
06:31know, Pistons or maybe one of those bottom feeding teams or whatever.
06:33I mean, that wasn't the case Saturday, but sometimes they don't go out there and cover
06:37the three the way they should.
06:38And sometimes it's something that's going to be like, okay, you're going to give us
06:40these looks, but we're going to keep taking them.
06:41But even if they don't fall, that's Joe Mizzou's mentality, right?
06:45You're not supposed to give up those good looks.
06:47He doesn't care if they're not falling.
06:48But even Joe had to say, all right, guys, enough is enough, man.
06:51We're not going to just keep missing threes out here in this fourth quarter.
06:53The hell with the record.
06:54We won the game.
06:55But I'm glad he did that.
06:55No, no, he really didn't.
06:57He really didn't.
06:58You didn't do that?
06:59The last, I think the last 24 seconds, that's when he finally called the dogs up and just
07:07held the basketball.
07:08So I don't think he called it off.
07:11I mean, they were reaching for it and they did what they needed to do.
07:14And this team is, teams are going to have to catch up, have to catch up from the three
07:20point line.
07:21And it's going to be really interesting to see how they do it.
07:26The Knicks weren't prepared the other day.
07:28Karl-Anthony Towns was, he's going to have to come out and guard Al Horford.
07:33I'm not sure how many good looks the Celtics had in that game.
07:41I think it was Josh Hart at the end when the reporters came over to him.
07:46He said, yo man, Celtics need to be drug tested.
07:51I ain't never seen that like that before.
07:53I thought somebody was exaggerating when they told me that.
07:56Come to find out, he did actually say that verbatim.
07:58Yeah, he did say that.
07:59And then he said the NC County joke.
08:01Then Rick Mahorn was the same way.
08:04I said the same.
08:05I saw him at Detroit last night and the Celtics got three point happy.
08:10They knocked down a bunch of three pointers and then Detroit kind of battled their way
08:16back in.
08:16They took the lead at the end and their experience paid off and they won.
08:22But this is a Celtic team that's going to be shorthanded for a minute.
08:27Porzingis reports on him right now.
08:30He's right now playing some one-on-one.
08:32He's already started that.
08:33If you watch him out there before the game, he's out shooting threes and moving well.
08:39He's really moving well.
08:40So they're going to be cautious and optimistic.
08:44But the sooner he comes back, the better.
08:47The full Monty of this team is going to, and I think it's going to be probably around Christmas,
08:54probably at the time they're going to unveil Porzingis again.
08:57I think that'll be the case.
08:59Yeah, I would like to see that, Max, because I don't, I mean, one, I don't think they're
09:02going to try to rush the situation, right?
09:04So I mean, that's obvious, right?
09:06It's kind of stating the obvious there.
09:07But two, like, I don't think even if he's to beat the schedule that they should do that,
09:13you know, because you don't really need to put them out there.
09:15I mean, it's all about the postseason with this, not only this team, but with Porzingis
09:21in particular, because I mean, it's easy to forget.
09:23The guy played, what, three playoff games last season?
09:26You know, I mean, fortunately for the Celtics and their depth, they were able to win without
09:29it.
09:29And I love how the rest of the talking heads on national media, they love to mention the
09:35fact that the other teams that the Celtics faced were shorthanded, but they very rarely
09:39mentioned the fact that there was no Porzingis.
09:41You know what I mean?
09:42Like, that's a big part of this.
09:44Don't let, how about this?
09:45Don't let the facts get in the way.
09:47Don't let that happen, especially if they don't fit the narrative.
09:51If they don't fit the narrative.
09:52If they were a team right now that wasn't playing, you know, they didn't play the toughest
09:56teams out there.
09:57Well, you know, here's the thing, which is not right.
10:01The fact they played the toughest team, they had the best record in the league.
10:05By almost eight or nine games.
10:07So that told you how well this team was played.
10:11It was just what they were going to do in the playoffs.
10:13That's what really counted.
10:15And they were able to, you know, get that chip, get it out their back.
10:19And, and, you know, this is, this, this is, this team right now is playing well.
10:23So I'm going to love to see how they continue to kind of, you know, play.
10:29Joe Mazula mentioned Sam Hauser being out for a couple of games.
10:34That's changed the rotation and how things are done.
10:36So he feels he loves to have Hauser back in, but there's going to be, you know,
10:41there's going to be lineup changes.
10:43Derek White made a huge block last night in the game.
10:47Same Derek White, still playing that kind of defense.
10:50Drew Holliday playing from this point of attack, Taylor and Brown.
10:54So just kind of fun thing when you think about how this team is.
10:58I love how Derek White's still playing as if he's got to, you know what I mean?
11:01Like, like stick around.
11:02He's got to prove himself or something.
11:03I love that.
11:04Like that's the approach.
11:05Yeah.
11:05Brand new contract, nice extension, but he just steps his game up more, you know?
11:09And that's the reason why you, you have to make sure these guys are gonna stick
11:12around for the foreseeable future and why it's so crazy to think that a lot of these
11:16guys are entering their prime after they win the championship.
11:18And of course that also includes Jason Tatum.
11:21What are you seeing out of Tatum right now?
11:23That's, that's leading to this, not only efficient of a couple of efficient performances,
11:29but dominating stretches, especially against the Knicks.
11:32The word I say was relaxed.
11:34Okay.
11:35So early.
11:35It's like, you know, the pressure of trying to win a championship now is off his back.
11:41They've done that.
11:42So I would not be surprised at all.
11:45This isn't a bold prediction, but Jason Taylor is probably going to be the player of the week.
11:50He started out these first couple of games, man, on fire, knocking down shots.
11:54Last night's game, um, uh, Pritchard and I think it was Pritchard and Horford.
12:01I had a bunch of points in that game early in the game, knocking down threes.
12:06Uh, the truck wasn't able to catch up.
12:08And then the truck got, uh, feisty at home and they got back into Cape Cunningham and,
12:13uh, his crew, Jayden Ivey, uh, they were really good.
12:16But, uh, the experience of the world champions came through again.

13:35Pricepix, run your game.
13:38Absolutely, man.
13:39I can't wait to see how this whole season unfolds.
13:41It's just getting started and you know,
13:43you kind of alluded to it in the beginning about the three-point shooting.
13:46Do you think there's going to be teams out there trying to replicate
13:48what I saw they're doing right now?
13:49Yeah, it's a copycat league, Joe Sweat.
13:53Not every team has the weapons.
13:54It's a copycat league.
13:56Teams will do that.
13:57You think about this.
13:59If you play Dallas right now with Klay Thompson being on the floor,
14:04doesn't it change what they do as a team when it comes to shooting the basketball?
14:09They're going to get up more threes than they've gotten up before
14:12because they have that other three-point shooter.
14:15Well, people try to duplicate it.
14:18Some teams aren't going to be able to do that because they just don't have the firepower.
14:23If you're one of those top, top, top teams,
14:26I think that you're going to try to do something.
14:29I was a little surprised that Giannis and his team got beat the other day kind of handily.
14:38The early in the season, obviously only three games, small sample size,
14:42but one of these things where this team, they're the world champions right now.
14:49Until somebody takes that away from them, then you got some big games.
14:55The OKC Thunder looked pretty good on the other side over there.
14:59Denver got spanked a couple of times,
15:03but then the Lakers have jumped out the box and won some games.
15:08So the NBA is alive and well.
15:13I'm sure you thoroughly appreciated that LeBron and Bronny James moment,
15:17got to check in together for the first time.
15:19I'm ready to get it over with, Josue.
15:21I just want to make me barf.
15:23I appreciate what LeBron James has done for this league,
15:28and I appreciate the fact that his son played with him.
15:31It's a stellar moment in NBA basketball history.
15:36He could be around that long to make that happen.
15:41I think about guys I played with.
15:44Their sons come after them, and they're now in the league.
15:48Gerald Henderson's son came in after he did and played in the league for a while,
15:53but I couldn't imagine Gerald Henderson staying in the league that long
15:57that his son would be able to come in and play.
16:01That's what's so unique about this situation with LeBron.
16:04How many guys are going to be playing 20 plus years
16:08and still probably be at the top of their game?
16:11If you're J.J. Reddick, do you go into the season thinking,
16:14okay, when am I going to do this?
16:16Instead of, should I do this?
16:18No, just doing it, getting it over with.
16:20That's what I think.
16:21And that's what he did.
16:22He did the right thing.
16:23He got it over with.
16:24Someone let the circus get out the way.
16:27That's done already.
16:30Ken Griffey Jr., Ken Griffey Sr., they were at the game.
16:35You know, the baseball players and who their father and son played together.
16:39So it was a unique moment in history, in the NBA history,
16:43when that happened with LeBron James and his son.
16:47Now, here's the crazy thing.
16:50You're starting to hear a lot right now about Bryce, Bryce Flynn.
16:56Well, you know, will he be the next person that will come in?
17:00LeBron James, a younger son.
17:04Will he be a guy that comes in now?
17:06That would be crazy.
17:07Max, the youngest is the one that's like a sponge, man.
17:10He's absorbing, okay, don't do that.
17:11Okay, but yes, do this.
17:13Like, not to say because I'm the baby of my family,
17:16but I mean, there's an advantage, right?
17:18And you can sort of make sure you don't make the same mistakes.
17:20And you never know, three, four years from now,
17:22depending on how he decides to approach it,
17:24because most likely he's not going to be trying to play with his dad.
17:27Maybe he takes the right route and does a couple more years of college
17:31instead of the way his brother did it.
17:32So are you trying to say that, you know,
17:34those ass whoopings that your brother Joel took, you didn't take those?
17:45Well walked, so Josue could run.
17:47Max, okay, I had to make sure I didn't make those same mistakes now.
17:51It's one way to put it, but okay, all right, Max.
17:55I guess that's what I'm trying to say.
17:56I just think he doesn't have that pressure of,
17:58oh, I got to make sure I catch up to play alongside my dad, you know?
18:03But the pressure is going to be on him,
18:06because now you're going to be compared to your brother.
18:08Your father's in the league.
18:09You know, what's the next natural step?
18:12I've heard people talking about LeBron, about Bronny,
18:15you know, what he was able to do.
18:16But now I'm starting to hear people talk about Bryce.
18:19Oh, Bryce is a better player.
18:20Bryce could do this.
18:21Bryce could do that.
18:22He's taller.
18:22He's bigger.
18:23He's faster.
18:24So who knows what this LeBron James legacy will do when it comes to the NBA?
18:31It didn't happen with Michael Jordan's kid.
18:34Didn't happen.
18:36You know, Kobe Bryant had Gigi was this fantastic girl that she played.
18:42And so it didn't happen there.
18:44You know, nobody else's son has come in.
18:46So it's unique in its own way.
18:50Yeah, but you think Michael would have been the one pulling strings or trying to get,
18:53you know what I mean?
18:54Let's say hypothetically, even if he was still in the league at the time,
18:56like, I think he knew enough out of, you know, what he saw from his son.
19:00I want to say he averaged, what, six points his senior year or so.
19:03Played all four years.
19:04I mean, just wasn't an NBA player.
19:06I just think with this situation, the best thing for the team and everyone involved is
19:10just to make sure he goes to the G League, man.
19:12Let him get his reps in.
19:13Do not force this.
19:14Look, fortunately you haven't cracked it up, Max, because you got Cameron Redding.
19:18You got guys on the bench being like, he's playing over me?
19:23Magic said that.
19:25Magic said exactly that.
19:27It's like his best thing would be to go to the G League.
19:30And Bronny snapped back and said, yo, my man, sit back and let the process continue.
19:38You know, you don't know what me and my dad, we worked on.
19:41So you're talking to one of the greatest Lakers ever to play the game or one of the
19:45greatest players to ever play the game, and you're telling him to sit back and chill.
19:49So kind of interesting.
19:52Very, man.
19:53You think, I don't know, man.
19:55I don't want to get ahead of myself.
19:56But it's not like that boy don't respect his elders, man.
19:58Don't respect the legends.
20:00You know, he'll get, look, how is he going to do that?
20:04And Joe Swaye got to respect the legends.
20:06His dad is one of them.
20:08So I don't think that's no better than doing commercials.
20:11And I think LeBron had this commercial where he put these fruity pebbles or something in
20:16his car.
20:17And then he drives by LeBron is going to the game and a dog on Maybach.
20:24And, you know, he was in the backseat.
20:27It is Hollywood at its best.
20:31So let it keep going there.
20:34We'll see how it goes.
20:35Yeah, man.
20:35Pass me the popcorn for sure.
20:37I like the end of that commercial, though, when he goes, Bryce, where your keys at?
20:40I'm taking your car.
20:42That was good.
20:43It's a special moment, man.
20:44But like you said, I just don't I don't know how this thing plays out.
20:48We're at the end of the season.
20:50We're like, OK, the Lakers did the absolutely right thing.
20:52You know what I mean?
20:53I don't know.
20:53I just don't think that that happens.
20:56You can't force that.
20:57It has to happen organically.
20:58It will happen when it happens.
21:01And you'll get a chance to see it.
21:03And everybody.
21:04Here's the thing about it.
21:05Everybody is going to unveil itself in front of everyone.
21:10We're going to get a chance to see it up close and personal because in today's NBA, it can't
21:15hide.
21:16I think they were doing a special today and it was talking about the captain.
21:22And when I say the captain, people think about jerk, jerk, Jeter, Jeter and what he
21:28was able to do.
21:29And he said, but Jeter said, man, the cell phones had been around.
21:33He said my career would have been a lot shorter because it showed him three or four pictures
21:37him with P. Diddy hanging out with him and doing this and doing that.
21:42And so, yeah, that would have been that.
21:46That could have been a whole nother moment.
21:47But cell phones have changed the way, you know, athletes are going to be judged and
21:53how they're going to be viewed because everybody is a reporter these days.
21:59That's what you mentioned that the first thing that crossed my mind when you said that about
22:01Jeter is how I don't know if this is true or not, but legend has it when he would have
22:07somebody over or a date or someone like that, some kind of that kind of situation, the woman
22:12had to drop her phone into a basket the moment she steps into the house.
22:16So I believe that quote from Jeter, man, because maybe it was something that you can
22:20drop.
22:21You can drop your phone in the basket, but just where you can put all kind of devices
22:25on yourself.
22:26Now, if you read about this is like years ago, Max, but if you really want to have that,
22:32you get a little button on your jacket or broach or whatever it is, man, that that's
22:37reducing all kind of information.
22:39He was in.
22:39He was in a great time.
22:41That's what we'll say about Derek Jeter.
22:44He was in the last of the innocence was there during that time when you kind of do different
22:50things and get away with it.
22:53Now, do you remember ESPN?
22:54They did a lineup of his ex-girlfriends.
22:57That was wild.
23:02What do you feel a lineup where they find?
23:06Oh, yeah.
23:08One of them is I can't remember a lot of them, but this is probably 20 years or 15 years
23:13ago or so.
23:14But yeah, he was back then.
23:16They were all the girls.
23:18It was the king.
23:19He was the king of New York.
23:20Yeah, New York.
23:22I mean, you could talk about any other athlete.
23:24I can't think of any other athlete.
23:28What do we think of any other athletes in New York history that we think about that
23:34was like Jeter?
23:36You know, you can think about football players, great football players.
23:40I'm thinking like the Manny's weren't like that.
23:43They weren't like that.
23:45Basketball players.
23:46I remember Patrick Ewing.
23:47He was that, you know, he was the stature of him, but he wasn't rolling over New York
23:53like that.
23:54It was Derek Jeter and the fact that they won multiple championships.
23:58I think that was the thing.
23:59That's the real difference in who he was and what he did and how he rolled in New York
24:05City.
24:06Right, right.
24:07I mean, I mean, never has to buy a drink or a meal ever.
24:10He's the captain for sure.
24:12And we'll see what happens in game two, man.
24:14Our boy Ice Cube got things started with a little performance before game two at Dodger
24:19Stadium.
24:20Shout out to Ice Cube.
24:21That's a special moment, man, to be performing before a World Series in Dodger Stadium.
24:26Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
24:31We've seen it before.
24:32I know you don't like baseball like that, but LA.
24:34All I could think about when he walked out on the field was, you know, the day that you
24:38saw me walk up on him in the garden and, you know, the way he was kind of looking around
24:43and he saw me, he said, oh, motherfucking cornbread.
24:48I said, damn, that's the way you greet a brother.
24:51So yeah, it was, it was a cool moment.
24:54It's a real moment.
24:55So I was happy for the brother, man, that it happened like that.
24:58I'll be honest, there is nothing like taking in a live basketball game, especially in the
25:03fourth quarter, down the stretch, being in that atmosphere and seeing it all play out
25:07right in front of you.
25:08There is nothing like it.
25:09And with the basketball season back, there is no other place better than game time that
25:14doesn't just have you covered for sports, but any type of concert or other events going
25:18on in town.
25:19You don't want to miss out with game time, especially with their new feature called Game

26:16Download Game Time today.
26:18What time is it?
26:19Game time.
26:20And finally, Max, Paul Pierce, alongside KG, talked about the special night in Boston,
26:24talked about you seeing other legends, but named you specifically and how these type
26:30of stuff, like it never gets old for these guys to go back to Boston.
26:33Of course, Kevin Garnett doesn't go as regularly as Paul has, at least over the past couple
26:37of years.
26:37But I just, I can't say enough about how great it was to see him or both of those guys with
26:44Ray again, man.
26:45Look, I know the first time we saw it was at Garnett's, you know, retirement, when he
26:50retired his jersey, which was obviously a very special moment because we hadn't seen
26:53those three together since they wanted, you know, since the trade essentially, right.
26:56And with all the beef and all that going on.
26:58But I think maybe because of that, it kind of took a little bit away from just how surreal
27:02that moment was.
27:03But for me, it never gets old to see the three of those guys together.
27:06And I hope that happens again.
27:07Yeah, that was, that was a real cool moment.
27:09Only thing would have been just as cool for me were if some of my ex-teammates had been
27:15there, like, you know, dare say Larry Bird comes back in the building, you know, one
27:21time or Kevin McHale.
27:23Right.
27:23You know, and that's that those were the guys I was, I was representing during the 80s.
27:28So it was, it's kind of just a real cool moment to be in that, that, that line and to see
27:35Ray and, you know, see Kevin working out still looks slim, like he could play tomorrow.
27:43Ray still looks slim now.
27:44Paul, Paul's ate a little food.
27:46Your boy, Paul, he even ate a little couple of hamburgers or so.
27:51He's enjoying himself.
27:52Even now, Paul Pierce looks like he's lost a little weight.
27:55So he really looked good.
27:56And it was, it was kind of fun seeing those guys.
27:58And, and the fans just got the hugest kick.
28:02Koozie came out first, they were in a wheelchair.
28:06I was next.
28:08And then I don't, I just heard the ovation behind me.
28:12And I'm not sure if Ray came out next and then it was maybe Paul and then Ticket came
28:19out and just, you know, the, the place just went, the place was just going ballistic.
28:24And, and to, to be out there among those guys was just really cool.
28:30All right, man, before we get up out of here, man, I got to ask you, because this is something
28:33that we, we talked about maybe the first, like back to episode, we first started this
28:38podcast, you know, and it's something that I feel like we're going to constantly revisit.
28:42So I'm going to throw it out here right now.
28:44Do we see Ray Allen's number retired?
28:46That's something that might happen.
28:49It should.
28:51Kevin Arnett said that, and it should happen.
28:56Ray, without, without Ray, they don't win that championship.
28:59And they were, they were a big three.
29:01That's who they were.
29:03And, you know, maybe people now, maybe they've, you know, softened their stance up a little
29:09bit because obviously Kevin has, because he embraced Ray and that moment that they had
29:15in the garden with Ray Allen, that to me, opened the door because I'm thinking my,
29:21my thing here is what other NBA franchise is going to retire his jersey?
29:29That's a great point.
29:31Which, which one is going to do that?
29:32Miami, I don't know.
29:34It's not enough, not enough years, right?
29:36Not enough years, not enough production.
29:39Milwaukee, he was great in Milwaukee, Seattle, great in Seattle.
29:44But, you know, at the end of the day, he's going to be known for winning the championship.
29:49And he, he won his best championship here.
29:51Obviously the big shot against Miami, but he was, he was, he wasn't among the big three.
29:58He was the big three here in Boston.
30:00When those guys got together, man, it was just fun to be around them.
30:04Just how they carried themselves, how Doc Rivers approached them.
30:08And, you know, he, he pretty much said, look, guys, he told Rondo and Perk,
30:13get in where you fit in.
30:14And we're going to do what these guys right here want.
30:17And the rest of you guys, you guys kind of fit in it.
30:20And that caused a little controversy at the end with him and Rondo, but it is what it is.
30:27Right.
30:28Not for sure, man.
30:29I think it's, it's more than, I think, like you said, time heals for sure.
30:33What happened with the whole Miami thing, but for Garnett and Pierce to, to forgive
30:37him and all that, and this was years ago, right?
30:40Why not?
30:40I mean, I can't think of another player that fits the criteria.
30:44And if not, Max, the next player might be Jason Tatum, man, because I can't think of
30:48anybody more deserving than Ray Allen.
30:52I, I can't, there is nobody right now.
30:54There is nobody.
30:55I was, I was that odd person for a while that people said, man, you played well enough
31:01futures and should have been retired.
31:03Then that got done.
31:04And now Ray Allen's that one person out there that everybody's thinking about.
31:09And I hope maybe before Wick and his crew get out of here, maybe they're, maybe they'll
31:14do that.
31:15Yeah.
31:15Maybe they step up.
31:16I've said that over and over again.
31:19His Jersey should be retired.
31:21And I know some people, you know, so many jerseys have been retired for the Celtics.
31:26Well, when you're the world champions, as many times as the Celtics have been, you
31:31deserve to do what you need to do.
31:33So that was cool.
31:35Now, let me get, before we get out here, let me give me a shout out to Michael Cooper,
31:40who became a Hall of Fame inductee.
31:44A bunch of people have asked about it.
31:46What do you think, you know, Max, your stats were better than his and that, that, that
31:50Michael Cooper has also solidified himself for being with the Lakers, but also being
31:55in the WNBA where he won multiple championships with them.
32:00So I was really happy to see Michael Cooper go in and do what he did and talk about Pat
32:07Riley and Jerry West and all these people who, you know, he's who he, who he has admired
32:14for many years.
32:16Absolutely.
32:17100%.
32:18Yeah, man.
32:18Congrats to Cooper guys.
32:20Of course, you can check out his podcast under the CLNS media umbrella.
32:23If you want to get that, of course, Lakers perspective, because he doesn't similar to
32:28you and your love for the Celtics.
32:29He doesn't have his appreciation for the Los Angeles Lakers.
32:32So I can't wait.
32:33I cannot wait to get out there.
32:35Probably the next time I'm on this show, maybe by then I'll be able to flash one of those
32:40rings in front of you because I did get measured.
32:43So when I get my ring, stay tuned for all our viewers, man, I'm gonna, I'm gonna make
32:49sure, you know, we do the ring ceremony, right.
32:52And I'll make sure I bring it on.
32:54I won't bring the right measurement.
32:56Yeah, I got it.
32:57I got the right measurements.
32:58What happened to your boy Al?
32:59Yeah, but I'll make sure I don't have my, I won't bring my watch, my, you know, MVP watch,
33:04but I did get a chance to talk to Brown and you'd love this.
33:10I hadn't talked to him since he won the MVP.
33:13Right.
33:14So I walked up to him, said, man, I just want to, you know, give you a shout out, man.
33:19And Dappy up on being the MVP.
33:21And he looked at me and said, takes one to know one.
33:26You know, that's perfect.
33:29Much love.
33:30Much love for JB.
33:33Yeah.
33:33Shout out to JB.
33:35Oh, shout out to the conversation you had with Stephen A. Smith, man.
33:38If you guys haven't checked that out, please watch it.
33:41I loved the mutual respect those two had just obviously talking about the state your source
33:46thing that went out there right before the parade.
33:49You had my boy Jalen rocking the shirt.
33:51So I love that he was able to explain himself and talk about just that.
33:55That report that Stephen put out there that he wasn't a great teammate from anonymous source
34:01and all that.
34:02So, yeah, man, I'm so happy for Jalen, obviously going into the season and everyone, you know,
34:07still giving him his flowers and his appreciation for sure.
34:09Finals MVP.
34:11One hundred percent.
34:12Shout out to Jalen Brown.
34:13And nothing new for this episode of the Cedric Maxwell podcast.
34:15I am Joseph Cavone.
34:16He is Cedric Maxwell.

34:20And of course, thanks again for tuning in and I appreciate all the support and all the
34:24love I've been getting, man, ever since I made this switch over here to Oklahoma City.
34:29It's different out here, man.
34:31I'm still getting used to it.
34:32People ask about you all the time, Joseph.
34:34Oh, what are we going to do about your boy Joe Sway?
34:37Joe Sway is a rat.
34:38I mean, I did not know that you had it like that.
34:41But a lot of people, you know, have missed you.
34:45And, you know, when you do your homecoming to come back here, it's going to be pretty
34:48exciting.
34:49Oh, I can't wait, man.
34:50I can't wait for sure.
34:51For sure.
34:51But yeah, like I said, I'm good out here, man.
34:53I'm going to be all right.
34:54I'm getting used to things after a while.
34:55I will, at least.
34:56And it's just the beginning.
34:57The beginning of the regular season.
34:59It's going to be a very fun, entertaining regular season.
35:02And of course, we've got nothing but great guests lined up for you guys.
