A competition has been opened for local artists to design a Beatles themed structure to be installed on the Tower Grounds in New Brighton. The Fab Four played Tower Ballroom 27 times, more than any other UK venue except the Cavern.

00:13The funding for the installation has been granted as part of Wirral's Year as the Liverpool
00:16City Region's Borough of Culture. New Brighton Coastal Community Team have been given £8,800
00:22to develop this and celebrate New Brighton's links with the Beatles.
00:25A Liverpool City Region-based artist will be chosen to design a unique installation
00:28to celebrate this, which will be installed on the sea-facing side of Tower Grounds Hill.
00:33According to the brief, the artwork will need to be at least two metres tall and should
00:36tell the story of the Beatles' time in New Brighton with a personal twist.
00:40A panel will select a shortlist of no more than five applicants, with each receiving
00:44£250 to develop their idea. Those interested in applying have until 30 December 2024 to
00:50do so.
00:51A statue of the band was unveiled on Liverpool's Pier Head in December 2014 and is one of
00:56the city's most popular spots for tourist photos.
