I had the privilege of going to Pwllheli last year with Catalina Happer.
00:04
Catalina Happer works for Cadarolwyn, and so it's very difficult for her to travel to the town or any other town.
00:12
And as I've been going to Cornelli, sometimes because of the nature of the pavement,
00:16
the Cadarolwyn is tipping over, or the pavement isn't very straight,
00:20
which means that she can't get on public transport, can't go shopping,
00:24
sometimes when she wants to go by bus,
00:26
the parliament hasn't been raised to the level to allow that bus, and a number of other problems.
00:32
One example is Catalina Happer in Pwllheli.
00:34
This is true for the lives of many people with disability or disability in communities across Wales.
00:41
So we have to look to ensure, in order to plan in the future,
00:45
in order to develop sustainable plans,
00:47
that they are accessible to people in Cadarolwyn or with disability.
00:53
So, what plans are you putting in place to ensure that local authorities
00:58
are going to take into consideration the needs of people like Catalina to develop sustainable plans?
01:04
I'm very grateful for the question this afternoon, and for really highlighting the importance of placemaking
01:10
in terms of our town and city centres.
01:14
And it's really important, of course, that any new development is undertaken
01:18
in conjunction and in alignment with our planning policies, which do promote that.
01:22
But equally, you know, we have towns and villages which go back centuries,
01:28
and which haven't necessarily kept pace with the kind of change that we want to see for accessibility.
01:33
So, I think that the work which local government should be doing
01:37
in engagement with representative groups and with disabled people themselves is really important
01:42
in terms of identifying those particular parts within the community
01:46
which need to be addressed through investment, or often some relatively simple changes.
01:51
And I do think that some of the disabled people's fora that local authorities have
01:56
would be perfect places to have those discussions about identifying,
01:59
often relatively simple things in the community that could change but make a very big difference.
