00:00What's up Cleveland, make some noise!
00:18Plumber, car horn tuner, slaughterhouse worker, the greatest front man in the history of rock
00:27and roll, Ozzy Osbourne.
00:34I remember the first time I heard of Ozzy, I was 13 years old, wandering around the record
00:40store, what should I get?
00:44Sticks?
00:46Journey?
00:47An older rock aficionado noticed my indecision and he said, stop fucking around kid, this
00:54is the album you need to get, The Blizzard of Oz.
01:02Man was he right, thank you nameless rock aficionado, wherever you are, you changed
01:07my life.
01:10I remember looking at that album cover, at Ozzy's face, before I even heard the music
01:18I was transfixed.
01:19He looked so cool, that rad white suit with the white fringe on the sleeves, that crazy
01:26look in his eyes, the skull, the cross, holy shit!
01:33The whole thing just looked so badass, it was the most metal thing I'd ever seen and
01:39I didn't even know what metal was.
01:42He was teaching me, I didn't realize I was entering a whole new world of heavy metal
01:47music.
01:48I took that record home, and when the needle hit the vinyl, heaven opened up above me.
01:56I don't know!
02:02Then track two, Crazy Train.
02:07There was an explosion of colors in my brain, Suicide Solution, Mr. Crowley, Revelation,
02:15even Goodbye to Romance.
02:17You best believe Ozzy could take it down a notch, he could do it all.
02:22Blizzard of Oz was the best thing I'd ever heard, a heavy metal masterpiece.
02:28That fucking sound was raw power!
02:32Randy fucking Rhodes, yeah, giving Eddie Van Halen a run for his money, and Ozzy?
02:43That voice, it could cut through glass, magic, joy, beauty.
02:50So then I went back into Ozzy's earlier albums, to Black Sabbath, and I was like, unholy shit,
02:57this motherfucker invented heavy metal!
03:02Along with Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and the immortal Tony Iommi, the darkest, heaviest
03:10shit the world had ever heard.
03:13And through all that power, Ozzy's voice, carving through the sonic blast furnace, let
03:20me get that right, carving through the sonic blast furnace like an air raid siren, he made
03:27the hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention, clear and crisp as a morning bell.
03:33And that smile, he looked so happy, he looked insane!
03:38So much charisma, the Jack Nicholson of rock.
03:43Okay, so, he invented a genre, had the greatest second act comeback in rock history, then
03:51what?
03:52How about No More Tears in 1991, with the guitar god Zach Wilde, proving insane lasting
03:59power, five times platinum.
04:02You heard me right, quinch up a plaque!
04:07It was then that he decided to totally touch his tender side, so he called up Lemmy Kilmeister
04:14for Motorhead, naturally, and together with Zach, they wrote Mama, I'm Coming Home.
04:21And thus, Ozzy took a little dip into the top 40, just to prove he could.
04:26Then what?
04:27The Osbournes, yeah, he teamed up with his family to create another genre, reality TV.
04:36Probably the most evil thing he ever did, but there is no denying it, his whole family
04:43were fucking hilarious and intensely entertaining, another fucking massive hit, then what?
04:51Oh, maybe just a little thing called OzFest, only the most successful heavy metal music
04:58festival of all times, Ozzy, stop creating incredibly successful genre defining world
05:05changing hits, it's too much success for one lifetime!
05:12And you know, a lot has been made of his evil alliance with the dark lord Satan, but in
05:17truth, Ozzy is a loving father and husband and friend, loyal to his family and friends
05:24to the end of the world and back.
05:31And now I stand here, yeah, just another nameless rock aficionado, and I'm talking to you 13
05:40year olds watching the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, all five of you,
05:45put down your phones, unless you're watching on a phone, then put it closer to your face,
05:51old man rock aficionado's about to drop some truth.
05:55Sure, you could go stream Post Malone and Taylor Swift and get all the warm hugs you
06:00need for your broken hearts, or you can stay up all night and get your minds blown by Ozzy's
06:07entire catalog for the first time.
06:10Holy shit, you kids are so fucking lucky.
06:21Ladies and gentlemen, I'm Ozzy Osbourne, the fucking Prince of Darkness.
06:30I don't know what music would be like if it weren't for the influence of Ozzy.
06:50It's everywhere.
06:51He left one of the biggest rock bands in the world and became bigger.
06:59The day I left Cybers, I thought, what have I done?
07:01I've just blown the biggest thing in my life.
07:07Everybody was wondering, what is Ozzy going to do?
07:09He's not in South anymore.
07:11And he comes out with his first two records and they're fucking amazing.
07:15Crazy Train really is an absolute launching pad.
07:20It's like Ozzy the rocket taking off into space.
07:28Me and my friends were blown away.
07:30We're like, you guys have to hear this.
07:38And within all of that, you had this guitar player by the name of Randy Rhoads.
07:49You heard all this new stuff that Ozzy was doing.
07:51It was just like a new era has arrived.
07:53I saw 17,000 kids that raised their hands like this, which is the sign of the devil,
08:03as you know.
08:04And they said, Ozzy.
08:13I'm a split personality.
08:15Ozzy Osbourne and John Osbourne is two different people.
08:18John Osbourne is talking to you now.
08:20But if you want to be Ozzy, how's that?
08:27I mean, do you like animals?
08:29Yes, they're nice to eat.
08:34Osbourne has a reputation, real or not, for biting the heads off bats.
08:45I mean, I suppose in the spirit of rock and roll, I don't know.
08:48I didn't mean any harm to any of them, apart from the bat and the dog.
08:59Yeah, I mean, Ozzy is completely nuts.
09:02And that's very good for a front man.
09:06You know, he just puts it out there and doesn't give a shit.
09:14He's like a loose cannon.
09:16There's that kind of danger, because rock and roll should be dangerous.
09:24I think Ozzy's music is timeless.
09:28Gives me the chills.
09:29It's just perfect.
09:39Ozzy Osbourne's got a voice that is so distinctive.
09:43It doesn't matter what he's singing over, you know it's him.
09:46Ozzy is more fountain pen than William Shakespeare.
09:51He's totally unique.
09:58You play Ozzy's voice anywhere in the world, and people go, that's the Prince of Darkness.
10:05And you can't tell Ozzy's story without his long-time guitarist, Zach Wilde.
10:11The dude is a beast.
10:13Welcome to OzFest!
10:15OzFest became a staple in the hard rock community.
10:19I think it was hugely responsible for keeping the genre alive.
10:28My audience is better than any drugs, alcohol, and drugs.
10:33Alcohol is the best love affair of my life.
10:39I think that the audience has a sense of, that could be me.
10:45The idea of being free like Ozzy is very exciting.
10:51Ozzy's the godfather of metal.
10:55His legacy is so widespread.
11:02He always has a new song, a new album, and new musical ideas.
11:07His voice is his legacy.
11:10After it's all said and done, I wouldn't change a fucking thing.
11:22It is my great honor to officially induct the greatest to ever lace him up
11:28in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
11:30The one, the only, Ozzy Osbourne!
11:54Fucking love you guys.
11:58Well, here we are.
12:06You know what?
12:08I can't believe I'm here myself, you know what I mean?
12:12Firstly, let me get the thank yous out of the way,
12:15because I'm not going to bore you with a long drawn-out fucking monologue.
12:21I'd like to thank whoever voted me into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
12:25for my solo work, a great thank you.
12:29Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I really, thank you, thank you, thank you.
12:34And more so, my fans have been so loyal to me over the years, I cannot thank them enough.
12:46I've been fortunate over the years to play with some of the world's greatest guitar players,
12:52drummers, bass players, a few of them are here tonight.
12:57But I want to spend one thing for a guy by the name of Randy Rhoades.
13:05Because if I hadn't met Randy Rhoades, I don't think I'd be sitting here now.
13:10And more so than that, my wife, Sharon, saved my life.
13:16And my grandbabies, I love them all.
13:19So with all that, I'm going to get on with the show and hand it back to Jack.
13:26Thank you, Ozzy.
13:27Thank you for existing, you legend.
13:31We love you.
13:33Let's hear it for Ozzy.
13:36Yeah.
13:41And now, to pay tribute to Ozzy, Chad Smith, Robert Trujillo,
13:49Adam Wakeman, Andrew Watt, Billy Idol, Steve Stevens, Zach Wilde, Jelly Roll.
13:56And to start it off, Maynard James Keenan and Wolfgang Van Halen.
14:03All right!
18:03But I'm gonna take this heart of stone, I just got to have it all.
18:11I've seen your face a hundred times.
18:19Every day we've been apart.
18:25I don't care about the sunshine, yeah.
18:30Cause mama, mama, I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home.
19:00I'm coming home.
20:00The light in the window is a crack in the sky.
20:23Stairway to darkness in the blink of an eye.
20:33And in the tears to look, you'll never be coming back.
20:35And in the dark, we'll bring another attack.
20:48Oh, yeah!
20:50I never wanted it to end this way.
20:56My love, my darling, believe me, when I say to you, in love, I think I'm falling in.
21:11No more tears, no more tears, no more tears, no more tears.
21:27No more tears, no more tears, no more tears, no more tears.
